Elderly Couple Beat Up, Robbed In Home Invasion

SAN BERNARDINO – Police are still searching for a man who beat up an elderly couple during a Saturday night home invasion.

By Tuesday, police had no additional information to the identity of the man who struck an 84-year-old woman several times in the upper body, face, hands and arms. A sheriff’s official said the woman suffered from a fractured arm. The unidentified victims, who live on the 900 block of West 40th Street, called sheriff’s deputies at 4:24 early Saturday morning. The woman reported a man was in their house, according to deputies.

A 7 foot high, padlocked fence did not keep the assailant from breaking and entering the elderly couple's home

The assailant, described as a black man, 5-feet, 10-inches, 170 pounds wearing a Khaki-colored hoodie, did not apparently realize the victims were awake. When the woman’s 95-year-old husband tried to intervene, the robber turned on him. The man suffered a broken finger and cuts, but was released from the hospital, said deputies. The assailant fled with valuables from their home, including an undisclosed amount of cash, a 1935 Colt .22 handgun and other property, according to deputies.

Deputies described the property as being surrounded by seven-foot high chain link fencing and located in an unincorporated area in north San Bernardino. The gates were padlocked.

While the husband was treated and released, the woman remains hospitalized at Loma Linda University Medical Center, about 15 miles from where the incident occurred. Deputies treated both the husband and wife as confidential victims.

San Bernardino police are collaborating with the sheriff’s investigators to compare other similar crimes that have occurred against elderly people within the past few months. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the San Bernardino Sheriff’s office at 909-387-3545, 909-387-8313, or WeTip at 800-78-CRIME.

CHP Shooting of Motorcyclist Still Under Investigation

$

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has been slow to release information regarding the gunshot death of Theodore Kenneth Keiper, 58, a resident of Casitas Springs which occurred on the afternoon of Saturday January 5th.

According to the most recent statement just released to the media by VCSD spokesman Sgt. Eric Buschow, the shooting involved two California Highway Patrol officers, but his office is performing the investigation as the incident took place in the Ventura County Sheriff’s jurisdiction.  Buschow further declined to indicate whether or not Keiper was armed at the time of his death at the hands of law enforcement, stating only that “the investigation is ongoing.”

Keiper, who had been cited for speeding multiple times, had been observed by the U.S. 101 Ventura County CHP patrol driving a motorcycle at excessive speeds southbound on the Pacific Coast Highway, adjacent to the 101 freeway.  When CHP officers attempted a routine traffic stop, Keiper “failed to yield, inciting a pursuit in excess of 100 mph,” Buschow reported to the media.

The high-speed chase followed Keiper onto the shoreline’s Hobson Road which led to the Padre Juan Canyon Road 101 overpass and into the adjacent foothills.  Careening up the steep canyon road, Keiper apparently lost control of his motorcycle, crashed, and plummeted down a steep embankment.  At that point, pursuing CHP officers alighted from their vehicle and discovered Keiper making “threatening and provocative movements that caused them to fear for their lives,” as described by the CHP report.  At that point, “the officers reacted to the threat by firing their handguns,” Buschow reported.

Keiper was pronounced dead at the scene and toxicology tests are still pending to determine what may have motivated Keiper’s alleged behavior.  CHP spokesman Steve Reid reported to the media that the two officers involved in the shooting have been put on paid administrative leave as per standard procedure.

Suspect Arrested for Killing Ex-Girlfriend’s Boyfriend

VISALIA – Police arrested a man suspected of shooting his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in his driveway early Monday morning in Visalia’s first homicide of the year.

Edgar Lugo

The Visalia Police Department took 32-year-old Edgar Lugo into custody Monday evening without incident after initially identifying his vehicle and pulling him over. He is suspected of killing 36-year-old Clifford St. Martin around 2:16 a.m. Monday.

Visalia police responded to the scene early Monday in the 400 block of West Race Street after getting calls of suspicious activity on the street. Before they arrived, new information came in that shots had been fired in the area.

Police discovered St. Martin’s body in the driveway when they got to the scene, authorities said. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Kaweah Delta Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police were able to identify Lugo as the suspect through witness reports. Police say they are confident they have the right man.

The shooting may have been related to an alleged grudge between Lugo and St. Martin. The latter was living with his girlfriend of one year, Claudia Villarreal. Lugo was Villarreal’s ex-boyfriend and the father of her child. Police say there had been tension between the victim and the suspect recently.

St. Martin’s death marks the city’s first homicide of the year. Last year, Visalia had 5 homicides.

Lugo was booked into the Tulare County Jail on murder charges and is being held without bail.

SANTA MARIA -  A high-speed chase early Wednesday morning through city streets and into South San Luis Obispo County ended near Avila Beach with the arrest of four individuals.

Bradley Winston Larsen

Just before 5 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Main and Blosser in Santa Maria regarding a wanted parolee, who was believed to be armed. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a vehicle speeding away from the area, according to police.

Law enforcement attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle, which was later found to be stolen, led Santa Maria police officers on a pursuit onto southbound Highway 101 to Betteravia Road, where the driver exited the freeway and continued to lead officers in pursuit throughout the city.

The vehicle got back on the freeway and headed north toward San Luis Obispo County, with the driver eventually reaching speeds of up to 100 mph. Assistance from the California Highway Patrol was requested and the vehicle was partially disabled by a spike strip near the Spyglass Drive exit in Shell Beach, police said.

Thomas Edward Clutts

Although the car was partially disabled, the suspect vehicle continued at slower speeds through Shell Beach to Avila Beach Drive, where the driver attempted to re-enter the freeway. Officers were able to stop the vehicle before it entered onto southbound Highway 101 at Avila Beach Drive, where four individuals were subsequently taken into custody for various violations without further incident.

Bradley Winston Larson, 25, of Tanglewood, was arrested on suspicion of felony reckless evading, felony vehicle theft, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony transportation of methamphetamine and misdemeanor hit-and-run, as well as two outstanding arrest warrants. He was driving the vehicle and is a wanted parolee.

Thomas Edward Clutts, 39, of Santa Maria, was arrested on suspicion of felony false impersonation of another, as well as two felony ‘no bail’ warrants. Both men were booked at Santa Barbara County Jail.

Also arrested were: Santa Maria residents Laura Alvarez , 41, and Nancy Camacho, 20, on suspicion of being under the influence of methampethamine. Both women were cited and released.

MONTEREY—A contracted employee from Bon Appetit Management Company, who worked in the kitchen at Santa Catalina School, has been accused of providing alcohol to minors for sexual favors.  The Monterey Police Department arrested 29-year-old Seaside resident Juan Pablo Mata for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Juan Pablo Mata

On Wednesday, at 3:30 p.m., the Santa Catalina School notified The Monterey Police Department that Mata was involved in multiple criminal acts with at least two minors at the school.  The occurrences happened between November 2012 and January 2013.

“They called us and told us about the incidents,” Monterey Police Lieutenant Leslie Sonne said. “They did not tell us how they found out of the incidents, however this case is still under investigation.”

The next day, at 3:45 p.m., the police arrested Mata on two counts each of possession of obscene matter of a minor in a sexual act, selling liquor to a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, sending harmful material to a minor and lewd and lascivious acts with a minor.

It should be known that there was no physical contact between Mata and his accusers. He was accused of receiving lewd photos of the girls in exchange for the alcohol.

“The two students were both 14-years of age,” Lieutenant Sonne added. “At this time we do not know if there are any more minors involved.”

Mata was transported to Monterey County Jail and his bail has been set at $250,000.  While being booked into the Monterey County Jail it was discovered that Mata was a previously deported alien and was placed on an immigration hold.

Rialto Basketball Coach in Fair Condition After Shooting

$

SAN BERNARDINO – Three days after a highly successful high school basketball coach was shot by one of three reported assailants, police were still searching for clues and witnesses, along with a trio of suspects.

Coach Steve Johnson

Steve Johnson, 47, of Yucaipa, was shot on Monday night just before 8 o’clock. Eventually Johnson drove himself to the nearby police department, which is about five blocks from Seccombe Park, site of the shooting.
A spokesman at Loma Linda University Medical Center said Johnson, who is the longtime coach at Rialto’s Eisenhower High School, was listed in fair condition.

So far, the case is being investigated as attempted murder and robbery, said police. Lt. Paul Williams said in a release that the injuries, which include four gunshot wounds to Johnson’s upper torso, were not life-threatening. “There are no updates,” Williams said late Wednesday afternoon. Nor would he disclose the method in which San Bernardino were investigating the crime. “The course of the investigation is continuing.”

A quick stop at Seccombe Lake Park in San Bernardino turned violent

There are several questions pertaining to the case, especially the state of the crime scene, since Johnson transported himself to the police department. “We are not ready to discuss what (or) how we investigate serious crimes,” said Williams. They said Johnson reported pulling into a parking lot at Seccombe Park, which is located on the 500 block of North Sierra Way, to use the rest room. Police reported that Johnson said he was driving back from the Cal State University-San Bernardino area and was headed for a gas station.

Sgt. Gary Robertson reported Johnson said three men tried to rob him of his wallet. After shooting Johnson, the men fled without taking the wallet or any other property. Johnson, whose Eisenhower teams have won a number of various championships that includes the 2009 state title, told police that attackers were black, but did not specify height, weight or any other descriptions.

Graffiti Artists Grabbed

Santa Barbara - As the midnight hour approached on January 21st, two Santa Barbara Police Department Officers—Nathan Beltran and Tyler Larson—were wrapping up a routine service call just a block from the U.S. 101 overpass on a main Eastside neighborhood thoroughfare when they happened to notice activity on the pedestrian walkway under the freeway.

Eduardo Zavala

From their position a block away, shrouded in darkness themselves, they quietly observed Eduardo Zavala, 18, and another male juvenile as they stopped walking in front of a solid concrete pillar and rubbernecked as inconspicuously as possible.  According to SBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Riley Harwood, “the two suspects then produced cans of spray paint and started to spray one of the columns of the overpass.”

Beltran and Larson—apparently in something of an unofficial stealth mode—silently approached the pair as the juvenile male then crossed to the busy street’s center median and begin emblazoning another freeway column with his creative vision.  The officers must have walked softly while carrying their big sticks, because neither suspect, “so engrossed in their activity,” as described by Harwood’s report, even noticed the approaching men in uniform until they were within ten feet of them.

As soon as Zavala glimpsed the cops, however, he immediately bolted, running westbound under the freeway, coming to a halt only when loudly commanded to do so by Larson, who summarily took him into custody.  Perhaps somewhat fleeter of foot, the male juvenile fled rapidly, ignoring Beltran’s commands to stop, tossing his can of spray paint into nearby bushes as he sprinted down the street.  As is often the case, however, SBPD officers have a bit of the fast-twitch themselves, and Beltran caught the 17-year-old and brought him quickly under forced control.

Both Zavala and his accomplice were determined to have been in possession of a full quiver of spray paint cans, nozzles, and assorted graffiti tools.  Both suspects were then removed to interview rooms at Santa Barbara Police Department Headquarters where they proved incommunicative.  Zavala was cited for vandalism, possession of vandalism tools, and destruction of evidence.  He was then released with a court date of February 25, 2013, where he will undoubtedly be confronted with the art criticism of the Superior Court.  The male juvenile, similarly cited, was released into the custody of his mother and father, who are undoubtedly experiencing some of the eternal joys of parenthood.

3 runaway juveniles in violent robbery, 2 arrested, one at large

Vacaville – Two juveniles have been arrested related to a robbery and assault that took place Tuesday in Andrews Park. A third suspect, estimated to be between 16 and 18 years of age, is still at large. He is described as Hispanic and was last seen running northbound on Markham Avenue on Tuesday evening shortly after 7:53 p.m. At that time he was wearing a dark sweatshirt with a hood and a white beanie cap.

Two men enjoying Andrews Park on bicycles were assaulted by the young trio

The incident began with two adult males being approached by the suspects, one of whom asked a question. Before the men could respond, the suspects began assaulting them. The victims’ bicycles, a cell phone and a watch were stolen.

Officers responded to the incident and located three young men fitting the attackers’ descriptions in front of the Lucky grocery on E. Monte Vista Avenue. The three took off on foot, pursued by officers who immediately captured one of them. A second suspect was captured shortly thereafter as he left a store carrying an 18-pack of beer, which officers determined was stolen. One of the stolen bikes was then located near the Georgie Duke Sports Center, alongside more stolen beer.

The victims identified the two juveniles captured by police as their attackers, and one of the suspects had the stolen cell phone in his possession. Both suspects were intoxicated, had outstanding warrants for their arrest, were on probation and reported as runaways. They added to their arrest record on Tuesday with charges for, among other things, strong armed robbery, commercial burglary and probation violation. They were booked into Solano County Juvenile Hall.

Anyone with information regarding the incident in Andrews Park or the whereabouts of the third suspect is urged to contact Vacaville police at (707) 449-5200.

Investigation into prostitution nabs two robbery suspects

SAN JOSE – Investigative officers working prostitution enforcement detail in San Jose arrested 22-year-old Darrion Mayno Bolden from Vallejo on July 29, 2012 for the crime of Pimping under PC 266h (a), a Felony.  Bolden was in court on January 18 facing a release from jail under PC 1203.065(a), in which Bolden would be refused probation for the charges that he attempted to pimp and/or support prostitution of a minor.

San Jose police have set up operations to catch suspected prostitutes and pimps at the area of Alma and Monterey

On January 7, the defendant filed a motion under 1538.5 to dismiss evidence on the grounds of unlawful search and seizure conducted by police at the time of his arrest. The motion seeks to suppress evidence filed against him by officers, and any statements he may have given at the time of his detainment and arrest.  The defendant is claiming a violation of his fourth amendment rights because he feels the search and seizure of his person was illegal at the time.

On January 14 the D.A. filed their opposition to the defendant’s motion to suppress evidence.  The location of the defendant, coupled with suspicious behavior, flight and apparent interest of activities occurring at the scene were acknowledged as a cause of action when officers initially detained the defendant.

Bolden had been arrested and booked into the Main Jail under PC 266(h), after he was found parked in an empty parking lot where he oversaw sexual acts performed by a minor he was actively encouraging to participate in prostitution. The lot was located near Monterey Road , Alma Ave, and Stauffer Blvd in San Jose.

During a later Prostitution Enforcement Detail, Investigative Officers and other assigned units observed a female standing in the area of Monterey Road and Stauffer Blvd.  Because of the concern for the safety of the general public, police are alert about possible robberies that may be linked to luring men to isolated locations and then robbing them.

The area around Alma and Monterey has been a magnet for prostitution and related crimes

On January 20, 2013, San Jose Police officers arrested two individuals who were found on Stauffer Blvd.  23-year-old Jonathan Powell and 22-year-old Keenan Reese, both from Fresno, were arrested for PC 25850(a) carrying a concealed firearm in their vehicle, PC 211, Felony Robbery, PC 4574 Weapon/Tear Gas, and PC 496 Possession of stolen property.  These individuals were identified by officers as having committed several robberies in the area, following up on a report by a person of being robbed near Monterey and Stauffer near Gold’s Gym, located at 1893 Monterey Rd. It is not known if they were connected to any prostitution activities that may have been going on at the location.

Ventura Woman Arrested for Assault

$

While many residents of Ventura enjoyed a day off work on Monday, January 21, the police department did not have time for rest as they were called to a home on the 300 block of South Evergreen Drive at 6:25 pm.

The incident lasted for hours on this street

The patrol officers were notified that a local resident, Kristine Lambert, 62, was threatening to kill her neighbor with a knife. The neighbor had managed to lock themselves in their house to avoid injury. By the time the police arrived, Lambert left her neighbor’s yard and went to her own home nearby.

Upon their arrival, officers tried contacting Lambert at her home but she refused to open the door or communicate with them. The officers then managed to obtain a search warrant based on the victim’s reports while additional officers kept a watch on Lambert’s home.

The officers executed the search warrant at about 12:30 am on Tuesday with a goal to locate Lambert and obtain any evidence of her crime. Lambert, however, did not intend to give up at first. She barricaded herself in the bathroom and was armed with a knife when the officers entered the bathroom by force. The officers were obliged to activate a taser to detain her and Lambert then gave in with no further incident. They also found the knife she used in the assault.

She was then transported to Ventura County Medical Center for medical treatment and observation after the taser activation. Lambert was reported to have no injuries and later booked into the Ventura County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats.

The incident lasted for several hours and the victim’s identity has not been released.

“We are a multi-jurisdictional team made up of eight different agencies,” UNET Commander Richard Westphal said. “The agencies are Morgan Hill, Gilroy, San Benito County Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department, CHP, Department of Justice and the Hollister Police.”

Upon serving the warrant, officers encountered Smith and Sandoval as they attempted to flee from the house.  They were both detained and arrested for delaying the officers as they performed their duties. Smith was also charged with a “No Bail Felony” probation violation.  Smith was on probation for prior narcotics violations.

Pamela Smith

The two were also arrested for the possession of marijuana for sale and possession of methamphetamine for sale.  Authorities with the Enforcement Team were able to seize, as a result of the search warrant, 333 grams of marijuana that had a street value of $3,330.

They were also able to recover 1 and 1/2 ounces of crystal methamphetamine that had a street value of $4,500.  Law enforcement was also able to recover scales and packaging material that was indicative of Smith and Sandoval’s intent to sell the drugs.

“We had been investigating this home for approximately two weeks before executing the warrant,” Commander Westphal added. “This was the second time we had investigated this location in the past year, repeat offenders.”

Both Smith and Sandoval were transported and booked into the San Benito County Jail.

The San Jose Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect involved in the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl.

Police hope this sketch, along with a description of the suspect's clothes, will help identify the potential kidnapper.

According to police, the victim was walking in the area of East St. James and North 33rd streets at about 6:10 a.m. last Friday when the incident occurred. The victim told police the suspect grabbed her and dragged her into a residential driveway.

The victim screamed and fought back, officials say, and the suspect released her. He was last seen fleeing down St. James Street towards North King Road.

The suspect is described as being Hispanic, between 25 and 35 years old and about 5’10” with a medium build. He had black hair, brown eyes, and a mustache and spoke English, authorities say. He was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head, blue “Dickies” pants, and brown work shoes splattered with white paint. No suspect vehicle was observed.

Police have released a composite sketch of the suspect and are asking anyone with information on this case to contact them at (408) 277-4166. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-7867.

“Homeboy” Gas Station Stickup Artist Nabbed

Santa Barbara County - A pair of gas station stickups that took place on December 30th, 2012 some twenty miles and forty minutes apart from one another may have moved a step closer to legal resolution with the arrest on January 18th of Federico Yepez, 23.

Frederico Yepez

According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover—newly posted to her position just this month—the arrest of Yepez “comes after a lengthy investigation by Sheriff’s Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau and Special Investigations Bureau.”

Yepez is suspected to have been the perpetrator of an armed robbery of the Turnpike Shell Gas Station in Goleta, and then to have promptly driven south to the Casitas Pass offramp in Carpinteria where the Arco AM/PM station sits just yards away from a pair of U.S. 101 onramps, and where he relieved store clerks of an undisclosed amount of cash.  At each location he was armed with a handgun and used that weapon to enforce his request for cash.

As his second target in Carpinteria was but a mile from the Ventura County line, a reasonable presumption would be that he would have avoided traveling or remaining within Santa Barbara County following the robberies. But sometimes the “homing” instinct even among criminals overcomes common sense.

The relentless SBSD ground-level investigatory effort identified the suspect in both robberies as Yepez, and with warrants  for his arrest in hand, all SBSD units throughout the county were on the lookout for him when he was observed driving through the streets of Santa Maria—about as far away from Carpinteria as possible while still in Santa Barbara County—and what Hoover described in her report as a “routine traffic stop” was conducted upon his vehicle.  Yepez was taken into custody at that time and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail where he remains held without bail on multiple charges of armed robbery.

Fifth Suspect Arrested in Gold and Gem Heist

MARIPOSA – A fifth suspect has been arrested for the theft of precious gems and gold worth $1.3 million from the California State Mining and Minerals Museum last year.

Michael Anthony Gomes

Michael Anthony Gomes, 43, was arrested on Tuesday in Citrus Heights near Sacramento after detectives searched his home. Gomes is in the Mariposa County Jail and faces felony charges of robbery, possession of stolen property, conspiracy and vandalism. He has previous drug convictions in Sacramento and Placer counties.

Authorities were able to recover some of the stolen items from the suspect’s home.

The four other suspects – 42-year-old Christopher Sheffield, 43-year-old Matthew Campbell, 41-year-old Jonathan Matis, 40-year-old Edward Rushing III – all pleaded not guilty and are in custody awaiting preliminary hearings.

All five suspects were arrested in connection to the two-minute heist on Sept. 28 of the Mining and Minerals Museum in Mariposa. The suspects entered the museum dressed in black and wearing hoods to conceal their identities, authorities said. They threatened a guide and curator with pickaxes, smashed open display cases, and were able to make off with more than $1 million worth of artifacts. The museum was open at the time of the heist.

The robbers also attempted to steal the Fricot Nugget, a 14-pound crystalline gold rock, but were unable to because they triggered an alarm that alerted authorities to their presence. Although police quickly swarmed the building, they were unable to apprehend the suspects at the time.

Lost children case leads to abuse arrest

Most lost children cases end happily when the missing children are found unharmed. But when Los Angeles Sheriff deputies found two Palmdale children that were reported missing, it instead signaled the beginning of an abuse case and an eventual arrest.

Ingrid Brewer was arrested for abuse after her adoptive kids were found

“We had two kids that thought they were in a loving home. That’s where they thought they were headed when they were adopted,” Sgt. Brian Hudson told KNBC. “Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case.”

According to an LASD press release, adoptive mother Ingrid Brewer called the police January 15th to report that her 7-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son had gone missing. After an exhaustive search, deputies found the children huddled under a blanket by a parked car near Brewer’s residence. Neither of them had winter clothing on despite 20 degree weather.

Once found, the children told investigators that they had run away from Brewer because they were tired of her tying them up and beating them. As the investigation continued, the children revealed that Brewer locked the children in separate rooms on a daily basis while she went to work, leaving them only waste baskets to go to the bathroom in.

The 7 and 8-year-olds were found hiding under a blanket near their home in Palmdale

The children also reported the various types of punishments they received including zip-tying their hands together, physical attacks with electrical cords and hammers, and food depravation. Injuries on their bodies corroborated the children’s story.

On January 16th, Brewer was arrested and booked at the LASD Palmdale station. Two days later, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Brewer with eight felony counts including, torture, assault with a deadly weapon, and cruelty to a child. The LASD set Brewer’s bail at $2 million.

Adan Nunez- Torres

WATSONVILLE—The Santa Cruz Anti-Crime team with assistance from agents with the Department of Homeland Security arrested 33-year-old Watsonville resident Adan Nunez-Torres after a traffic stop lead them to search his house for controlled substances.

The incident began last Wednesday at around 3:17 p.m. when the Gang Task Force of Santa Cruz County pulled over a car that was driven by Torres on Green Valley Road and Celia Drive. Initially, Torres was arrested for driving a vehicle without a license, but after a search of his vehicle, authorities found two and a half ounces of crystal methamphetamine in the car.  Torres was charged with transporting a controlled substance.

Believing that Torres was using his home to hide more drugs, police secured a search warrant for his residence.  Upon serving the warrant at Torres’ home on Alegre Drive in Watsonville, the SCCACT and the Department of Homeland Security found 1.5 pounds of crystal methamphetamine.

Methamphetamines Seized by Agents

They also found evidence that Torres was distributing the methamphetamines as they found cutting agents, packaging materials and a digital scale.  They also found a loaded .45 caliber handgun and a reported stolen 9mm handgun.

Agents also seized $3,000 in US currency along with seized methamphetamine estimated at a street value of over $70,000.

“We do not know of Torres’ past criminal history at this time; however we are still investigating that matter,” Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime team Sergeant Eric Montalbo said. Torres was not on any type of probation when he was stopped by police.

Torres was transported to the Santa Cruz County jail and booked on charges of transporting and possessing a controlled substance for sale and possession of a controlled substance while being armed with a firearm.  The Department of Homeland Security has placed a hold on Torres’ immigration.
