COLTON – Seeking a man wanted on two warrants, police finally arrested three people after a 90-minute standoff on Wednesday morning.

William Dexter Ohlinger, 34, of Colton, was wanted on warrants for identity theft and an outstanding probation violation from San Diego County for fraud. When police made an attempt to talk with him at a residence on the 600 block of West Agua Mansa Rd., he ran inside. A dozen uniformed and plain clothed officers responded to the residences after police heard multiple voices inside, said police. Det. Ray Mendez said the officers originally saw Ohlinger in the front yard at around 10 a.m.

Ohlinger emerged from the depths of the home after the standoff with police

With the residence surrounded, eventually two females emerged from the house to surrender fairly soon after police had assembled. Questioned as to Ohlinger’s whereabouts, however, they were unable to provide his exact location. “They told officers Ohlinger wasn’t in the home,” said Mendez.

Officers used the loudspeaker on a patrol car, demanding Ohlinger surrender. After about 90 minutes, Ohlinger exited through the floor vent from the basement and surrendered to police at around 11:30 a.m.  Additionally, the two women, Kimberly Lara Newburg, 41, and Lamanda Theresalyn Rodola, 22, both of Colton, were both arrested for obstructing justice, according to reports. The home was located south of the Slover Mountain cement plant, south of Interstate 10.

No shots were fired during the standoff. Police reports did not say if any of the three suspects had weapons. Officers, armed with tactical gear and assault rifles, entered the home to determine if anyone else was inside.

All three people were booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.

HOLLISTER—Two masked men burst into the Rabobank on Tres Pinos Road in Hollister and made off with an undisclosed amount of money from the bank.

At 10:50 a.m., police received two alarm notifications, one automated and the other from employees calling 911 to report the armed robbery.   An investigation revealed that two suspects armed with handguns came through the front door and told employees and customer to get down on the floor, while yelling profanities at them.

It was reported that the two robbers ran to the counter, demanded money and then vaulted over the counter and collected as much money as they could.  The two then ran out the door into a vehicle that was waiting in the parking lot.

“This branch did not have the security features that some other banks have,” Hollister Police Captain Dave Westrick said. “Bank robberies are very rare in this town. It may happen once in great while.”

The two suspects were described as males, between 5’9” and 6 feet with medium builds.  One was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt while the other one was wearing a gray or white hooded sweatshirt.  Both were armed with handguns.

There was a third suspect that was waiting in a car outside the bank.  The car was described as an older model white 2-door Honda Accord with a license plate similar to 6WK2K3.  However, no one was able to get a description of the driver.   All three suspects were last seen speeding away from the area.

“This robbery was planned, these guys were not in the bank for very long,” Westrick added. “We had unit cover the area of Tres Pinos Road, because their last known direction of travel was west on Tres Pinos Road. Nothing was seen.”

A BOL was issued to surrounding law enforcement agencies.   The suspects or their vehicle has not been located.  The Hollister Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation will be conducting a joint investigation.

The Hollister Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact them at 1-831-636-4330.  Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at 800-78-CRIME.  Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a reward.

Carlos Quezada

SALINAS—The Salinas Police used a coordinated effort with a multi-jurisdictional task force in San Benito to help get a suspected shooter off the streets of Salinas.  They arrested 32-year-old Hollister resident Carlos Quezada at his home on numerous charges.

On January 13, at 3:15, it was reported that witnesses saw a person in a red Suzuki Areio fire two rounds from a shotgun while the car drove through the parking lot of Northridge Mall in Salinas.

“It appears that he was not aiming at anyone in particular, it looked like he was firing it in the air,” Salinas Police spokesperson Officer Miguel Cabrera said. “It seems that they made contact with people at the mall that made them upset and they wanted to intimidate them.”

As police responded to the scene, they spotted the car, which was leaving the parking lot onto North Main Street.   The driver, who was later identified as Michael Rivas, 25, from Hollister, led police on a high-speed pursuit down Boronda Road.

Second Suspect Michael Rivas

Second Suspect Michael Rivas

“The vehicle was going the wrong way down Boronda Road at a high-rate of speed. Officer Cabrera added, “Because of the time of day and the risk to the public our officers decided to end the pursuit.”

Within hours, police had positively identified Quezada as the shooter.  Officers assigned to the Violence Suppression Unit began to work with the task force from San Benito in an attempt to capture Quezada.

On January 15, Quezada was seen leaving his house on Rancho Drive in Hollister by an undercover surveillance team.  He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Monterey County Jail and booked on numerous felony firearm and gang-related charges.

Quezada is well known to Hollister Authorities as having gang ties in their area.  He was arrested in October for resisting arrest and two-counts of battery on a Hollister Police Officer.

Suzuki Areio

As for the driver of the vehicle, Rivas, he is described as a Hispanic male 5-feet-6 inches tall, 160 pounds and is considered armed and dangerous.  He might still be driving the 2003 Suzuki Areio, which is described as a red compact 4-door hatchback with a license plate of 5UKB755.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Salinas Police Department at 1-831-758-7321 or the Watch Commander at 1-831-758-7250.  If you wish to remain anonymous you can call their tip line at 1-831-775-4222.

MADERA – The Madera County Sheriff’s Office has identified two men accused of stealing California Lottery scratcher tickets in November.

Robert Cave

One of the suspects, 32-year-old Christopher Nunn of Fresno, was officially arrested Tuesday. However, the suspect was already in jail on another charge when detectives linked him to the crime. He had been on probation for burglary at the time of that arrest.

The theft happened at the end of November at a convenience store in Madera County. Authorities were able to get surveillance video that shows one man smashing in the glass on the front door of the store. The suspect then only took seconds to run in and grab several stack of scratcher tickets, the sheriff’s office said.

Christopher Nunn

His accomplice in the crime is believed to be 51-year-old Robert Cave of Fresno, who is still on the loose. The Madera County Sheriff’s Office and the Fresno Police Department worked together to link the two men to the crimes.

Authorities say a third man may also have been involved in the crime.

Investigators say the men cashed the winning tickets, which ended up being worth $1,000 in all. They cashed the stolen tickets at several convenience stores and grocery stores.

Anyone with information on this case, on Robert Cave’s location or on the identity of the third suspect, is asked to call the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at (559) 675-7770 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.

PLACER COUNTY – The president of the Rocklin Junior Thunder Football and Cheer Association has been arrested for embezzling over $20,000 from the youth sports organization.

Stephanie Ann Abercrombie

The Junior Thunder program is a youth full contact football and cheerleading program for children aged 6 to 14. It relies heavily on volunteers, and each participant’s family is required to provide at least 10 hours of service. Registration fees are approximately $300 for each player, and from $175 to $305 for cheerleading team members. Children and families are also expected to participate in fundraising activities, as the registration fees only cover about 70% of the cost of the program, according to the Junior Thunder website.

The organization’s mission statement states that the goal of the program is to “develop and promote the ideals of responsibility, hard work, sportsmanship, teamwork and fellowship within a safe and positive environment.”

Stephanie Ann Abercrombie, 41 of Rockin, is now listed as the former president of the Rocklin Junior Thunder program. Rocklin police received a report alleging that she had embezzled funds that were entrusted to her for the daily operations of the non-profit organization. According to a Rocklin Police press release, an investigation of several weeks revealed that she had apparently stolen over $20,000 in funds from the program. At 8:30 this morning, detectives from the Rocklin police Investigative Unit placed Abercrombie under arrest at her home, on the charges of burglary, embezzlement of over $400.00, and forgery. She is being held at the Placer county jail on $10,000 bail.

Police are continuing to investigate the charges, and ask that anyone with information call the Rocklin Police at 916-625-5400.

Highly Decorated San Diego Teacher Arrested for Possession of Child Pornography

Alexander Graham Bell Middle School

San Diego- A middle school teacher from San Diego was arrested Tuesday after a search of his North Park apartment led federal investigators to pornographic images of children on DVDs that were found in his home.

The teacher, 39-year-old Timothy James Hensley began teaching at Alexander Graham Bell Middle School in 2005 where he was an 8th grade science teacher. In the 09’-10’ school year, Hensley was named the school’s “Teacher of the Year”.

The investigation on Hensley was commenced by the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) after they had received a tip from the internet.

Agents from the Homeland Security Investigations along with members of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) carried out a search warrant at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning on Hensley’s apartment. However, since Hensley was not under arrest, he was able to leave his apartment while investigators served the warrant

Along with five iPods, an iPad and three computers, investigators found computer discs which contained pornographic images of children as well as videos of minors as young as five engaging in sexually explicit acts. Investigators were also able to find around 290 DVDs; an earlier check of the DVDs found that some contained pornographic images of children.

After discovering the videos and images, investigators began to search for Hensley’s whereabouts. They later located him in a parking lot in his car near the San Diego Zoo. Hensley refused to cooperate with investigators and resisted arrest. Eventually, he was arrested and taken to a federal jail in San Diego.

A spokesman for the San Diego Unified School District, Jack Brandais, said Tuesday night that the school was not able to confirm the arrest, but said that Hensley had not been at the school on Monday or Tuesday.

Hensley has been put on administrative leave and will continue to receive his monthly salary of $4,500.

Neither the San Diego School District nor the ICE would reveal if any of Hensley’s students were involved in the pornographic images.

$50,000 Reward Offered in Unsolved Winchester Homicide

$

WINCHESTER – In an attempt to locate the person or persons responsible for the September death of Winchester resident Wanda McGlover, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors is offering a $50,000 reward.

Wanda McGlover was killed in what is suspected to be a hit and run

In the early hours of Friday, September 21, 2012, Wanda McGlover, 68 years old, was out for a morning stroll after walking one of her foster children to the bus stop. McGlover was chatting with her daughter on the cell phone, when the conversation ended abruptly. McGlover’s daughter heard her scream, and concerned she immediately dialed 911. At 8:50 A.M. deputies were called to where the family had discovered McGlover lying in a ditch alongside Brookridge Drive and Washington Street in Winchester. She was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to severe injuries.

Investigators feel that McGlover may have been the victim of a hit and run, but still have no leads on a suspect. On Friday October 5, 2012, investigators from Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Central Homicide Unit, investigators and volunteers from the Southwest Station, and officers from the California Highway Patrol conducted a checkpoint at the intersection where McGlover was killed. Officers and investigators questioned motorists and pedestrians, hoping for any information that might produce a witness to the incident. They also conducted several extensive neighborhood canvasses and handed out flyers. At this time, however, there are still no suspects in the murder.

McGlover was found in a ditch at Brookridge and Washington.

In a further attempt to mine any information that might be available from the public, District 3 Supervisor, Jeff Stone, brought forward a $50,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for McGlover’s death. The reward was unanimously approved at the January 15 Riverside County Board of Supervisors meeting.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact investigator Gary Bowen of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit at (951)955-2777.

San Diego Man Charged with Felony Animal Cruelty after Dog Loses Sight

SAN DIEGO- The San Diego Humane Society announced on Thursday that a San Diego man who allegedly abused and neglected his 11-year-old poodle was charged with felony animal cruelty.

Freddy the poodle when he was found

On November 19, officials from the Humane Society and Society for the Protection of animals responded to a call regarding the welfare of a dog. The caller reported having seen Oswaldo Velasquez kicking a small white dog that seemed to be in poor condition. Upon inspection, the dog, Freddy, was indeed in bad shape. Freddy’s fur was severely matted. Also his right eye appeared to be infected and was protruding from the socket. Based on Freddy’s condition and the allegations of abuse, he was impounded under protective custody to the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA.

The dog was evaluated by medical staff and treated for his injuries. Unfortunately, even with treatment, Freddy lost vision in both eyes due to the nature of the injuries he sustained. Freddy was rehabilitated and when healthy, adopted into a loving home on January 8, 2013, according to officials.

Freddy after treatment. He remains blind, but is with a loving family.

On January 15, Velasquez was arraigned and charged with a felony count of PC 597(b) animal cruelty and on misdemeanor count of 597(f) for failure to provide veterinary care. He faces a preliminary hearing on February 25. The San Diego Humane Society led the investigation of this crime, following the tip they received.

“We rely on information from the community about suspected animal abuse or neglect.  We look into every single report of suspected abuse that we receive, which equates to more than 2,000 per year,” said Dr. Gary Weitzman, president of the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA.  “These tips are so important to be able to seek justice for animals who cannot defend themselves.”

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department has reportedly arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred last summer near American River College, according to an official press release.

Ian Clark and his police sketch

Ian Clark, 20, was reportedly arrested at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, on Thursday, January 17, for felony charges of robbery, sexual battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault with the intent to commit rape. Clark was already in custody, having been arrested on July 27, 2012, for unrelated charges of auto theft and felony evasion of a peace officer.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, evidence from the scene ultimately linked Clark to the attack, where reportedly a female adult walking along the Arcade Creek nature trail near American River College was grabbed from behind and choked by a man who held a knife to her and conveyed an intention to rape and kill her. The victim reportedly struggled with the suspect and was able to break free. The suspect then fled the scene on a bicycle.

Identity Thief SWAT Target

Drew Alan Dotts, 45, had long been the subject of an investigation throughout Ventura County, suspected of being connected to a series of forgeries, fraudulent business machinations, and identity thefts.  With the Camarillo Detective Bureau first having inklings of Dott’s criminal activity pursuant to several reported forgeries dating back to October 2012, there were further indications that Mr. Dotts, a convicted and paroled felon, was possibly in possession of multiple firearms, including a fully automatic sub-machine gun.

While plans were being made to serve a search warrant issued on January 15th upon Mr. Dotts’ residence, collaborative strategies among various local area law enforcement agencies presented the conclusion that this may not be a garden-variety suspect contact.  According to Ventura County Sheriff spokesman Sgt. Pete O’Sullivan, “due to the nature of the possible weapons involved” at the search warrant address, “Ventura County Sheriff’s SWAT team was requested to serve the warrant at this location.”

Official instincts as to the likelihood of Mr. Dotts opening the door to his home with open arms to welcome the appearance of law enforcement proved accurate, as the initial response by him was less than cordial.  Dotts, in fact, refused to comply with arriving officers’ demands that he reveal himself and provide access to the residence.  According to O’Sullivan’s report to the media, “SWAT negotiators attempted to contact Dotts numerous times prior to entry.”  While Dotts’ reaction at first was to be a bit standoffish in rejecting official entreaties to gain access for purposes of the warrant search, the view through his living room window to the front yard—which was now populated by a show of force akin to a military operation—apparently gave him second thoughts about further resistance.

Dotts eventually opened the door to the house, surrendered, and was promptly taken into custody.  For their part, VCSD deputies summarily searched the premises and located several “airsoft” guns, including one that appeared to be a replica Uzi sub-machine gun.  Most importantly and incriminatingly, however, deputies also discovered “a large quantity of items used in the commission of identity theft and fraud,” O’Sullivan reported.  Pursuant to those findings, Dotts was arrested for burglary, fraud, forgery, and identity theft and booked into Ventura County Jail, where he currently resides with bail set at $500,000.

High-Tech Cop Work Catches Craigslist Computer Crook

The Fielding Graduate Institute, nestled just off the most scenic part of U.S. 101 between the Santa Barbara Polo Club and the tiny beachfront community of Summerland,  is known throughout the world as a peaceful enclave of higher learning.  It’s such a successful program of graduate studies that its internationally-acclaimed conferences are of such size that they’re frequently conducted at the Doubletree Resort just steps from the sands of Santa Barbara’s East Beach.

Ari Benjamin Morguelan

After the events of January 15th, however, both Fielding and the Doubletree may be known as the perfect venues for thieves to ply their trade.  It was on that afternoon that a Fielding Institute conference attendee called Santa Barbara Police to report the theft of a laptop computer which she claimed had been stolen when left in the conference area while she had lunch in the hotel dining area.

According to Santa Barbara Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Riley Harwood, responding officers quickly accessed hotel security video recordings, which revealed a male suspect entering the conference room while it was vacant and then “exiting with the computer in full view.”  When SBPD Officer Doug Klug shared that video with a Fielding Institute staff member, the suspect was promptly identified as Ari Benjamin Morguelan, 33, a staff member of the Institute working at the conference.

Klug conducted a records check and determined “that Morguelan is a felony probationer with unrestricted search terms stemming from a theft conviction,” Harwood reported.  Klug then contacted Morguelan, conducted a personal and vehicle search as per his probation terms, but found no evidence of the stolen laptop.  When Klug accessed photo images on Morguelan’s smartphone, however, he discovered photos of the stolen laptop which were linked to a Craigslist posting on the cellphone’s browser and offered the laptop for sale at a bargain price of $900.

Pursuant to these field observations, a probation search was conducted shortly thereafter of Morguelan’s residence, where the purloined laptop itself was discovered.

Morguelan was arrested on charges of  grand theft and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $20,000.

Vacaville trio leaves chaos in their wake

Vacaville – On Monday afternoon three Vacaville residents, Phillip J. Sisco 21, Darian Alan Gentry and Brad Larsen, both 19, were arrested for felony burglary and vandalism. Larsen and Sisco were also charged with defacing property and Sisco for violation of parole, all felony charges.

Cars parked along Arcadia Drive were damaged at the beginning of the escapade

The suspects had a busy evening on Sunday, January 20, leaving a series of overturned trash cans, broken windows, vandalized vehicles and stolen property. They appear to have started out in the 500-600 blocks of Arcadia Drive, damaging the side mirrors and windshields of at least three vehicles. Police were called to the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m. Damage is currently estimated at close to $2000.00.

Shortly thereafter police were called to Sam’s Club, where employees stated that three subjects had broken into the store. It was closed at the time but there were still employees working onsite. They reported the three subjects had overturned trash cans, kicked at a door and eventually used a shopping cart to break the door’s glass panel. They entered, ran through the building, and when they left were seen carrying three bottles of hard liquor.

They were then seen headed in the direction of the Outlet stores. In their wake they left overturned garbage cans and trash strewn across three lanes of Burton Drive. Public Works was called out to clear the street.

Trash cans along Burton drive were overturned, leaving garbage all over the street

Another garbage can was ripped away from a Nut Tree Road bus stop and overturned, and the glass door to an office building was shattered. At this time it does not appear that the suspects entered the office building.

Near the bus stop police spoke to three suspects who denied any involvement. Later, through studying video surveillance tapes, it was ascertained that these three the police had stopped were in fact the same three who had broken into and stolen property from Sam’s Club. They were then located, arrested and booked into Solano County Jail.

Anyone with information about the Sam’s Club burglary or the vandalism of vehicles described here, is asked to contact the Vacaville Police Department at (707) 449-5200 and refer to case 13-0469.

Parking Lot Thief Busted

As the midnight hour approached on Friday night January 18th, Santa Barbara Police Department 911 Emergency operators received an anonymous tip reporting an unknown individual busily trying the doors of cars parked in downtown’s busiest multi-level parking structure known locally as City Lot #10.

David Phillip Nieman

When SBPD Officers Kyle Crooks, Dusty McGrew, and Aaron Tudor responded to the call from Dispatch, they stealthily split up and entered the structure from three separate points.  The first to make contact with an individual acting suspiciously, Tudor—something of an infamous character himself and the subject of multiple abuse of force investigations in prior months—did not confront the suspect directly but maintained surveillance and observed David Phillip Nieman, 22, endeavoring to open the doors of multiple parked cars.  According to SBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Riley Harwood, “the officers saw him gain entry into a red Ford Mustang with Utah license plates and remain inside the car for several seconds.”

Nieman then reportedly exited the Mustang and approached additional vehicles until he had that heart-stopping moment when he saw multiple uniformed officers approaching him.  The officers verbally commanded him to remain in place where he stood, but “Nieman tried to flee, disobeying commands to stop,” Harwood reported.  Nieman then threw aside the backpack he’d been carrying up to that time, sprinting through the parking structure and leading the trio of cops on a brief foot pursuit.  But SBPD officers are nothing if not fleet of foot, and Nieman was quickly apprehended.

Further investigation revealed that Nieman’s backpack contained a set of jumper cables, a sunglass case, and assorted personal items that he admitted he’d taken from unidentified vehicles.

Nieman was taken into custody, removed from the parking lot, and subsequently found himself parked at Santa Barbara County Jail booked on multiple misdemeanor thefts.  As a felony probationer, he remains in custody without bail.

Cop Couple Busts Burglary Couple

Santa Barbara, long known as the perfect romantic “getaway” for couples, is apparently not the place to make a “getaway” from the consequences of felonious activity.  Criminal couples sometimes come up against cop couples in this tourist mecca, as evidenced by the events of January 16th in the exclusive residential Riviera neighborhood.

Brooke Standish

It was at a residence on the Riviera’s “scenic drive” overlooking the entire city and harbor where during the late night hours Santa Barbara Police Department Officers Tom Eccles and Beth Lazarus cruised down the serpentine road pursuant to a 911 Emergency call reporting a burglary earlier in the evening.  Upon arrival at the reporting residence, Eccles and Lazarus learned that the homeowners had returned to their house at 9:00 p.m. to discover unmistakable signs of a burglary, including doors left open, and missing personal property including jewelry and a large amount of cash.

Matthew Baucom

It was at that time that Eccles and Lazarus learned that the home had video surveillance cameras in operation throughout the day and evening, and that a recording of the burglary had in fact been captured in “hi-def” resolution.  Upon observation of the video, it was determined that it “depicted the suspect arriving at the residence in a white Ford Explorer at exactly 11:33 a.m.,” according to Sgt. Riley Harwood, SBPD Public Information Officer.

With the video recording further analyzed at the SBPD Crime Lab the following morning, detectives quickly recognized the suspect individual as Matthew Storm Baucom, 39, and the vehicle as that owned by his reputed girlfriend, Brooke April Standish, 33.

Wasting little time, detectives from the Property Crimes Unit, Narcotics Unit, and Criminal Impact Team retained a search warrant of Baucom’s last known residence, and conducted surveillance of the address that afternoon, during which Baucom was seen driving away in the vehicle recorded on the surveillance video the night before.  Baucom was stopped just blocks away and taken into custody at that time.

While Baucom was being detained and further physical evidence of his ongoing burglary activities—including tools, gloves, and lock picks—detectives were arriving at the Palm Avenue apartment and confronting Ms. Standish.  According to Harwood’s report to the media, detectives “discovered articles of clothing resembling that worn by Baucom on the video, as well as stolen watches and a quantity of cash.”  Along with the booty of the alleged burglary, Standish was also found to be in possession of unprescribed pharmaceuticals and evidence of identity of credit card thefts.

Baucom was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for residential burglary, possession of burglary tools, and driving without a license, with bail set at $50,000.  For her part, Standish was arrested and booked for possession of stolen property, accessory to burglary, possession of narcotics, and possession of access and credit card information, with bail set at $20,000.
