Drunken neighbor shoots resident

61-year-old Gabriel Edward Quihuiz was arraigned earlier this month in the San Jose Hall of Justice for the crime of attempted murder in PC664 (a) – 187, a Felony, the result of his attempt to kill a person on Jan 30. The charges are added under the premeditation and forethought to attempt to commit murder under 664, 187 and 189.  Quihuiz has also been charged with discharging a hand gun in order to cause great bodily injury, under PC 12022.7.

The shooting happened in the afternoon hours in this San Jose neighborhood

Responding to the area near 1682 Crucero Drive, officers located a victim, which confirmed reports that a person had been shot.  Quihiz appeared from just beyond a cul-de-sac, and stumbled near where officers were. They believed him to be heavily intoxicated from alcohol abuse. Upon further questioning, Quihuiz began to admit to officers that he had committed the shooting.  The victim had been shot twice in the chest area, and upon discovery he was transported to the Regional Medical Center.

To confirm their account of the incident, investigators asked the victim who had shot him.  The victim had replied that “Gabriel” had shot him.  While he was inside, the suspect had fired 3 or 4 shots from outside of the house.  A total of six gun shots were heard by people from inside the home were the victim was found.  Witnesses were also able to identify Quihiz as the person running from the scene after the shooting.

Public information officer Albert Morales with the San Jose Police Department said, “Whenever we come into contact with people we know that people possess them illegally, we have to go out there and make contact with these people.”  Morales said, “Officers will do a follow up on any information regarding anyone possessing a gun illegally.”

Multiple firearms and ammunition were located at Quihiz’s residence.  Investigating officers found a silver revolver on a couch in the front living room area.  There was also a black revolver recovered from the master bedroom.

The department is aware that there are numerous individuals who posses illegal firearms, and get the guns by any means.  Guns can be obtained illegally by purchasing them on the street, committing a burglary or robbery that results in the theft of a firearm.  “The department is vigilant to enforce the law when we come into contact with individuals illegally possessing fire arms,” Morales said.

No arguments were heard at the time of the shooting, but the suspect at the time had acknowledged that the individual was of a younger stature and that he had felt he was protecting his home when he confronted the victim and shot at  him, hitting him twice in the chest area.  The argument began when the victim had asked Quihiz for twenty dollars.  Reports state Quihiz argued with the victim, telling him if he would clean up the leaves in the front yard he would give him the money.  The argument had progressed, which led Quihiz to shoot the victim.

The San Jose Police Department proactively enforces gun laws.  “There is no real way to track the illegal possession of a firearm until an officer will come into contact with people who have them,” Morales said.  “We know there are a lot of people who own them.”  The SJPD will take steps to find those individuals who committed violent acts.  The department is proactive in trying to recover guns that have been reported stolen.  Morales said, “The idea is to get the weapon back to the rightful owners.”

Hesperia Deputies Crack Five-Month Old Burglary Case

HESPERIA – Detectives from two different task forces cracked a five-month-old burglary and grand theft case with an arrest on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Derek Allen Dodds, 29, of Victorville, was charged with commercial burglary, possession of stolen property and a narcotics violation. Investigators believe there are more victims, in addition to other suspects, leaving the case open.

Dodds was using his home in this upscale Victorville neighborhood as storage for his stolen loot

He was arrested on Tuesday when detectives from the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station, assisted by deputies from the Hesperia Gang Team, served a search warrant in the 14600 block of Equestrian Way in Victorville.

Reports stated that property was recovered from related thefts, including furniture, electronics, numerous firearms, safes, collectables and clothing, according to Sgt. Doug Hubbard.

In October 2012, several theft reports were taken from Hesperia storage facilities where unknown suspects had entered various storage lockers and stealing personal property, including firearms and home furnishings. Reportedly, the total value was several thousand dollars.

Investigators determined that Dodds, and possibly others, were legitimately renting storage lockers from the various businesses in order to gain access, including pass codes, to the facilities as regular customers. While on the grounds, the suspect would force entry into other storage lockers, taking valuables and other items.

Investigators completed a detailed review of facility records, eventually determining that Dodds’ vehicle was involved in the thefts.

Two stolen dirt bike motorcycles, and a third suspected of being stolen, along with a non-reported amount of Methamphetamine were also recovered. Investigators also determined that Dodds had been involved with similar thefts in the Corona area, in neighboring Riverside County. Reports there concluded that storage facilities had been infiltrated in the same manner.

Investigators also believe that Dodds is a suspect in similar thefts in neighboring Apple Valley and, possibly, the San Bernardino area.

Dodds was located and arrested without incident, according to reports, and later booked at the Victorville Jail.

Watsonville Man Steals Flowers for Valentine’s Day

Flowers died before he got a chance to sell them…

WATSONVILLE—Santa Cruz County authorities announced today that they have made an arrest in a two-week investigation of a commercial business burglary.  They have arrested a 35-year-old Watsonville resident, Saul Rodriguez, for stealing $7,000 dollars of long stem roses.

Saul Rodriguez, 35

On February 1, a manager of Monterey Bay Bouquet reported that their main warehouse on San Andreas Road in Watsonville had been broken into and several thousands of dollars in roses where taken.

After deputies collected physical evidence left at the scene, they launched a two-week investigation.  The evidence led to the identification of Saul Rodriguez as a suspect in the burglary.

Authorities with the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Department concluded their investigation when Rodriguez turned himself in to the Santa Cruz County Jail, on February 18. He was booked into the County Jail on felony burglary charges.  His bail has been set at $25,000.

According to Deputy April Shalland of the Santa County Sheriff’s Department, “Rodriguez used to work there” and he stole “two pallets full of the classic flowers” in the burglary.

The ironic twist in the burglary is that Rodriguez miscalculated the time to commit the burglary and the flowers died before he could sell them.  The dead flowers were discarded in a ditch off of Highway 152 in Watsonville.

This is still an ongoing investigation and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information to call them at 1-831-454-2440 or their tip line at 831-454-2847.

Murder Defendants get into Fight Before Court

MODESTO – Two of the three suspects accused of a triple murder in Modesto weren’t able to show up to their scheduled court date this week because they got into a fight while waiting in the holding cell.

Oloth Phommahaxay

Oloth Dicky Phommahaxay, 20, and Chris Douangkham, 18, got into an altercation while waiting to enter the Stanislaus County Superior Courthouse on Wednesday morning. One of them had to be examined by jail medical staff.

The two, along with 17-year-old Sophon Theoun Ting, were indicted for fatally shooting a couple, Vanh and Pouvieng Thammavongsa, and their adult daughter, Nanci Thammavongsa, while robbing the family’s store, V & V Oriental Market, in Modesto.

Chris Douangkham

Ting was not involved in the scuffle at court, which happened around 9 a.m. The men were waiting in a holding cell, which is in a tunnel through where inmates are brought from the jail to the Modesto courthouse. There were other prisoners in the cell, including Tou Vang Xiong, who was involved in the fight. Xiong has been charged with the murder of two Modesto residents.

The deputies on hand ordered the inmates on the ground and then did a search. No weapons were discovered. Douangkham had a cut on his head, but no one else appeared to be injured. It is unclear why the fight started. Officials said that none of the inmates chose to press charges against each other.

The hearing for Phommahaxay and Douangkham was postponed until next week.

When officers arrived at the location, the suspect vehicle was located, a traffic enforcement stop was conducted and the truck was searched, according to the Police Department.

Bakersfield residents William Campbell, 22, and Cody Boronda, 26, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of stolen property, burglary tools, methamphetamine and  drug paraphernalia. Both men were booked at County Jail, with their bails set at $20,000 and $25,000, respectively.

Three Burglaries Yield Two Arrests

Ventura County – The Thousand Oaks Police Department found itself with a plenty to do earlier this week when their 911 Emergency operators received a pre-dawn call for help on February 18th that reported “a burglary in progress,” according to Ventura County Sheriff spokesman Sgt. Alan Hartkop.

The call for help reported a homeowner awakened at 4:50 a.m. by the sounds of an intruder who had been confronted by “a male suspect wearing all black clothing” standing inside the homeowner’s residence.  According to Hartkop’s report to the media, deputies arrived on scene with all due alacrity, only to find no intruder still in the house.

They did, however, spot someone out for a very early morning bike ride in the neighborhood…who just happened to be dressed in “all black clothing.”  When the cyclist was stopped, questioned, and identified as Arturo Fuentes, 20, a resident of Oxnard with no credible explanation as to why he was miles away from home at this hour of the day.  Given the nature of his responses—apparently inadequate to convince the deputies of his athletic prowess—Fuentes, a resident of Oxnard, was arrested on the scene on suspicion of residential burglary.

Once the sun peeked over the horizon in Thousand Oaks, however, 911 Emergency received another two residential burglary reports which involved stolen vehicles, both occurring within close proximity of one another.  Shortly after the Thousand Oaks Police Department broadcast descriptions of the stolen vehicles to neighboring agencies, an officer of the Oxnard Police Department observed one of the vehicles traveling through his jurisdiction and performed a “routine” traffic stop.  A brief investigation on the scene identified the driver as Guillermo Garcia, 22, an Oxnard resident.  Found in the vehicle he was driving was property stolen in the second and third burglaries just hours before.  Garcia was taken into custody and transported to Ventura County Jail where both he and Fuentes were  booked on suspicion of residential burglary.

19 Charged with Involvement of Meth, Cocaine Trafficking Ring

San Diego- Federal Officials arrested at least 10 men and women on Wednesday and Thursday after investigators discovered their involvement in a methamphetamine and cocaine trafficking ring in San Diego.

The arrest of the suspects came after a yearlong investigation was conducted by members of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Major Mexican Trafficker’s Strike Force, FBI, IRS, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the sheriff’s department of both San Diego and Los Angeles.

Together, the groups focused on long-term drug dealing cartels based in Tijuana and Guadalajara, who were trafficking drugs into the northern part of San Diego.

The arrested suspects include: Guadalupe Natalie Perez, 22, Leonardo Garcia-Gaytan, 26, Nancy Blancas-Pena, 26, Felipe Garcia-Gallegos, 27, Miguel Guiterrez-Marantes, 28, Rosalia Lourdes Nieves, 30, Manuel Marcial, 31, David Aguilar, 37, Alma Jaime, 38, Jose Isidro Rodriguez-Lara, 42, Sylvia Sanchez-Zarate, 47, and Alicia Reyna Marin, 49.

Federal officials believe the suspects to originate from Vista, San Marcos, Spring Valley, Oceanside, and Panorama City of California.

The remaining fugitives remain at large and include:  Edson Solis-Valdovinos, 25, Hernan Sebastian Bernal, 26, Sylvia Lara, 29, Julio Cesar Rodriguez-Zarate, 38, Jose Juan Mancilla-Monje, 46, Jose Luis Lopez, 67, and Nathan Kahakulani Yasso, 68. The remaining fugitives all come from Vista.

The San Diego DEA Acting Special Agent in charge William Sherman said that this investigation brings the end of a particular local, large-scale drug ring.

“This organization was distributing multi-pound quantities of methamphetamine in our cities, and making a huge profit. Throughout the course of the investigation, DEA and its law enforcement partners seized large quantities of methamphetamine and arrested 13 people who will not be selling their product on our streets,” Sherman said.

If convicted, each suspect involved in what investigators call “Operation Crystal Haven” faces a minimum of 10 years to life in prison and a maximum fine of $4 million.

SANTA MARIA -  An unidentified male in his 30s was allegedly kidnapped, threatened with a weapon and robbed before his weekend even began, according to the Police Department.

Jose Arredondo

The 33-year-old victim, whose name police are not releasing, was abducted and relocated to a home on the north side of the city approximately 6:OO pm on Friday, Feb. 8, where he was robbed of his personal property and held against his will. He was later  allegedly forced into a vehicle by the three suspects, who threatened him with a weapon when he tried to escape, police said.

Juan Hilario

The three suspects eventually released the victim just before 7:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of North Western, where he contacted law enforcement.

Police located two of the suspects, Jose Arredondo, 19, and Annabel Hilario, 20, driving around Santa Maria in the same vehicle that they allegedly forced the victim into. They were arrested without incident and booked at Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping, robbery and false imprisonment, police said.

Officers later served a search warrant at a residence in Santa Maria, where they located the third suspect, Juan Hilario,  22, who was also arrested and booked at County Jail on charges of kidnapping, robbery and false imprisonment. Dangerous shooter faces possible third strike offense

$
0
0

On or around March 6, 2012 31-year-old Mitchell Craig Pope Jr. committed a deadly assault with a firearm in violation of PC 245(a) (2).   Pope had previously been released from prison, having served on a separate charge for another violent crime, and pursuant PC 667.5(b) committed a new offense, which can add to the length of a sentence for repeat violent offenders.

After his third strike, Mitchell Pope may be locked up for a long time.

Pope is being charged with a new Felony offense under PC 245 (a) (2). Allegations allege that Pope committed the act of discharging a firearm in violation of PC 12022.5(a).  Pending further investigation, Pope was released on felony parole, but has since been detained under PC1203.085 (b) which makes him ineligible for probation as a person convicted of a violent felony after his release from a State Prison facility.

Pope’s next court appearance will be held in courtroom 36 in the San Jose Hall of Justice at 1:30 pm on March 11, 2013.  San Jose Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Jason Dwyer said, “A very violent individual has been taken off the streets.”  The seriousness of the offense brings into question whether a second and third strike charge offense will be added against Pope, consistent with prior convictions making him ineligible for release from prison.    “He was determined to be a fairly high threat to the community and that’s why we spent so many resources on him,” Dwyer said.

The MERGE unit is San Jose's equivalent of a SWAT team

The victim in this recent case was shot at four times while being confronted by Pope near his place of residence near Locust and Floyd Ave.  Witnesses in the area identified a white male driving a van leaving the area after the shooting.  The driver had been driving when Pope drove up next to him and held up a black gun.  The van described in the incidence was found parked in the area of Jarvis and Branham Ave in San Jose.  Investigators took the van into custody and booked it into evidence.

The victim, fearing for his safety, recognized Pope as the shooter and ducked down when he fired four rounds into his vehicle.  The victim in this case was not hurt, but suffered tremendous anxiety and shock from the shooting. The San Jose Police Department’s MERGE and assault unit located the suspect on February 1st near Center and Louis Roads in San Jose. In an early morning standoff with him, noise and flash devices were thrown through windows to draw the suspect out. Pope surrendered without incident.

Shopping Spree Leads to Arrest

February 11, 2013 – San Mateo

Ronica Randolph, 37, had an errand filled day of groceries and children’s gifts –  but with someone else’s credit card. She was promptly arrested on February 11, 2013.

Ronica Randolph

A customer at the Urbanization store in San Carlos called the Sheriff’s Office when her wallet was stolen from a rear changing room. The police arrived but were unable to locate any of the three suspects matching the description the victim gave. The suspects were reportedly seen in the nearby San Carlos Caltrain station, said Deputy Rebecca Roseblatt, but after an exhaustive search, no one was located.

Meanwhile, the victim’s bank informed her of unusual purchases taking place at the Safeway and Walgreens store in Belmont, less than 2 miles north.

Soon, the bank informed the victim of additional purchases at Stride Rite Shoes, Gymboree, Sephora, and Kara’s Cupcakes on Burlingame Avenue in Burlingame, near the Burlingame Caltrain station, about 8 miles north of San Carlos Caltrain station.

Randolph is accused of stealing a purse in the changing room at the Urbanization clothing store and going on a shopping spree all over the county

The Burlingame Police Department was advised, and Burlingame officers stopped and detained Randolph near the Caltrain station. According to Dep. Rosenblatt, the stolen credit cards were found on the ground near Randolph.

Randolph was transported and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of burglary, unauthorized use of an access card, possession of an access card with intent to defraud, attempted burglary, and stolen property.

Texas sex offender says hello…

$
0
0

Hello to a stranger. No big thing. And after all this is San Francisco. People are friendly to death. Especially in a place like the 1400 block of Sutter, which is on the ‘good’ side of Van Ness Avenue, away from the Tenderloin District. This is upscale, tall apartment buildings, no Victorians but everything is convenient, across from the Spanish consulate, just a couple blocks up from Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Arthur Salinas

So a younger woman and an older man strike up a conversation at the counter of a convenience store.  They leave the store together.  Coincidentally, or maybe it’s already in his mind. They walk up the street.  It’s 11 p.m., February 16th.  They walk up the street and then the allegation is that suddenly he sweeps her into a stairwell, attacks her, assaults her sexually.  Flees.

Woman gets home; her roommate calls 911.  Ambulance arrives, takes victim to the hospital. Police investigate and, according to SFPD information officer Albie Esparza, “The victim picked up evidence which was given to police and lead to the identification of the suspect.”

The encounter began on Sutter Street in a convenience store

That person would be Arthur R. Salinas, 57.

At 5 a.m. the next morning a Special Victims Unit out of Northern Station finds him standing on the corner of Franklin and Sutter.  Close to the crime scene. He has a sexual offender parole warrant from Beaumont, Texas on his head.  And is now charged with one count of rape, one count of forced oral copulation, one count of failing to register as a sex offender. Add kidnapping enhancement allegations. Add a possible third strike, which under California law entitles you to life in prison.

Bail set at $3 million.  Arraignment set for Monday, February 25 at the Hall of Justice.

Salinas was a sex offender in Texas before showing up in San Francisco

District Attorney George Gascón noted on February 21st, “Last week, after thousands of people in San Francisco gathered in front of City Hall and demanded an end to the violence against women, we had this monster commit horrific acts against a female resident. This is unacceptable and we will aggressively charge this predator and hope he will spend the rest of his life where he belongs, in prison.”

Arrest Made During DUI Checkpoint Hit-and-Run

A DUI checkpoint was set up at the corner of Greenback and Birdcage

A Citrus Heights Police Department (CHPD) DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint held Friday, February 22, 2013, in the area of Greenback Lane and Birdcage Drive received a great deal of action as the pursuit by officers of a reckless driver resulted in a hit-and-run eventual arrest of the suspect, according to an official press release.

Michael Ballard was spotted nearby driving recklessly

Michael Ballard, 25, was taken into custody by CHPD officers for several violations including driving under the influence. Ballard was arrested after roving patrol officers spotted a reckless driver in the area of Sayonara Drive and San Simeon Drive. Officers reportedly attempted to make an enforcement stop of the driver – later identified as Ballard – but he refused to stop and led officers on a chase towards the checkpoint. During the chase, Ballard reportedly drove the wrong way on Greenback Lane, struck the center divider, and destroyed city property, including a curb and fencing.

As the chase approached the checkpoint, personnel at the checkpoint were reportedly ordered to abandon the checkpoint immediately. Ballard reportedly turned southbound on a side street just prior to reaching the checkpoint, his vehicle became disabled and he abandoned the vehicle and began fleeing on foot. A perimeter was established and Ballard was eventually apprehended.

Ballard was first spotted on residential streets before heading towards the checkpoint

According to the CHPD, Ballard demonstrated objective signs and symptoms of intoxication and was taken into custody. The CHPD says two DUI arrests were made during the February 22 checkpoint.

Copper Thieves Busted

Two men were arrested after being caught stealing cooper from several businesses late last week, according to an official Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department press release.

Casey Solano and John Whitlock

John Whitlock, 30, and Casey Solano, 24, were both reportedly booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for various felonies and are being held on $20,000 bail. Whitlock is charged with grand theft of copper material, criminal conspiracy and a violation of probation, while Solano incurred the same charges, as well as possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.

At approximately 4am on Friday, February 22, 2013, Rancho Cordova police officers responded to the 9900 block of Horn Road, after a security guard called regarding two men on the roof of a business. Upon officers’ arrival, the two suspects – later identified as Whitlock and Solano – ran from officers in attempt to flee the scene. They were reportedly both detained in the area, and officers recovered at least one bag containing copper materials, as well as tools believed to have been used during the theft.

Solano and Whitlock were mining for copper on buildings in this Rancho Cordova business park

Further investigation by officers discovered that the rooftop air conditioning units of numerous businesses at the location had been tampered with. One business owner who arrived at the scene estimated tens of thousands of dollars in damage to the A/C units.

Charges to be Filed Against Shooting Victim?

SAN BERNARDINO – A highly successful high school boys’ basketball coach may have charges filed against him after he suffered from gunshot wounds in a reported Jan. 21 attack, say police.

Coach Steve Johnson

San Bernardino Police have no doubt Steve Johnson, 47, was shot. They are saying that he has given police conflicting reports about what happened at the park at Seccombe Lake, where he suffered from several gunshot wounds. Police have sent the case to the District Attorney’s office to review charges for obstruction of justice. On Monday, a city spokesman said a review of those charges is underway.

Johnson, who resides in Yucaipa but coaches the basketball team at Rialto Eisenhower High School, about 25 miles apart, said he stopped to use the bathroom at the park on his way to get gas. After he concluded, Johnson reported to police that he was approached by three black men who attempted to rob him. While police have no reason to doubt Johnson was the victim of a shooting, they have said Johnson has changed his account several times.

In a statement made by San Bernardino Police Chief Robert Handy, there is reason to believe that Johnson withheld information in his statement that night. The attack occurred at about 8 p.m.

Johnson's account of his activities at Seccombe Lake Park have come into question

Johnson said the assailants demanded his wallet, but after telling them he didn’t have it, he said one of the men opened fire, according to police reports. After that, Johnson drove himself, while bleeding, to the police department, which is located a few blocks from the park, which is located on Fifth St.

Since the shooting, investigators have interviewed Johnson on multiple occasions, with him telling the same story of events. But Handy said parts of Johnson’s account are difficult to believe, saying Johnson has not been forthright during the investigation.

Johnson, who has led Eisenhower to several area league championships and one state title, continues to recover from his gunshot wounds.

The Sacramento Police Department (SPD) is currently investigating an altercation among friends that resulted in a deadly stabbing and arrest, according to an official press release.

Sixto Rosas

Sixto Rosas, 36, has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for murder, after officers reportedly questioned him following the stabbing death of his roommate.

According to the SPD, on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at approximately 10:55 pm, officers were called to the 7700 block of 32ndAvenue regarding a subject that had been stabbed. The 30-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital where reportedly he later succumbed to his injuries.

Responding officers quickly discovered that a physical altercation between two roommates had occurred.  During the fight, the victim’s roommate of the past few months reportedly armed himself with a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim.  Arriving officers were able to immediately detain the suspect – later identified as Rosas – who remained on scene after the assault.

SPD detectives believe that this is an isolated incident resulting from an argument between roommates that turned deadly.

The SPD urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES).

‘Shoulder Tap’ Sting Nets 4 in Redlands Operation

REDLANDS – Four people were cited and released, charged with buying alcohol for an 18-year-old Redlands police volunteer who was posing as an underage person looking to buy alcohol last weekend. On Tuesday, Redlands police released the information that led to the apprehension of those people in order to cite them for later court appearances.

Police did not identify the specific stores they targeted with the "Shoulder Tap" sting, one of which was on Brookside Avenue

On Feb. 23 between 5-9 p.m., the 18-year-old male volunteer stood outside local businesses on Brookside Ave., Orange St., State St., and Redlands Blvd. He offered to give people who were entering the stores money in order to buy beer. The four people cited included three Redlands residents, James Handy, 30, Frieda Koons, 27, Yasser Martinez, 29, and Andrew Walker, 27, of Grand Terrace. Each person was cited and released. Police said the beer was returned to the businesses for a refund.

The police effort, known as Shoulder Tap Operation, was spurred by a grant from a State of California agency. On Feb. 5, the Redlands City Council accepted a $7,500 grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), earmarked for the local police department to conduct the sting.

The grant, according to a release by Chief of Police Mark Garcia, includes training funds for local business owners by ABC. The grant funding runs until June 30, 2013.

None of the stores were identified by Redlands police, but there are several known stores in those areas that do considerable business with alcohol-related sales. Similar operations have been conducted in nearby cities, including neighboring San Bernardino.

A portion of those funds covers overtime costs for police officers.

Police arrest three after online dating scam ends in robbery

Amanda Battazzi, 28

FRESNO – Two women and one man were arrested for setting up a date online with a man and then robbing him at gunpoint when he arrived for the meet up.

Fresno police said a 49-year-old man met a woman on Jan. 31 on the dating site myRedBook. They decided to meet up and he went to a residence in the 100 block of West Barstow Avenue to see her.

When he showed up, 22-year-old Brittnie Saunier answered the door. However, she was not the only one in the residence. Another woman, 28-year-old Amanda Battazzi, and a man, 29-year-old George Flores, soon appeared, threatening him with a gun.

The three suspects held the victim at gunpoint and demanded all of his belongings. They took his ATM card and made the victim give them his pin number.

Brittnie Saunier, 22

Flores, a Bulldog gang member, held the victim at gunpoint while the two women left the house. They drove to three banks and withdrew money from his account using his ATM card. When the women returned, the three suspects stole other items from the man’s car and then released him.

The victim called the police, which authorities say is not always an easy thing to do given the situation in which he found himself.

George Flores, 29

Surveillance video from the three ATMs the women visited helped investigators find the suspects. Saunier was the first to be arrested and the other two were arrested this week at an apartment in the 5200 block of north Fresno.

The three have been charged with robbery, carjacking, kidnapping and conspiracy.
