WOODLAND– Alejandro Hurtado, 27, wasn’t quite clear on the customary exit strategy burglars use after the breaking and entering part. He passed out and stayed put instead of leaving with the loot.
Hurtado, a Woodland resident, spent a few hours ransacking the home of Lori Hensley and her husband near the corner of Grande Avenue and Lincoln Avenue in a Woodland middle class neighborhood after gaining entry.
He took several household items from the Hensley home, but then returned and fixed himself a bowl of Trix cereal. While in the kitchen, he discovered several bottles of tequila, which proved to be his undoing.
When Ms. Hensley and her husband returned on Labor Day, they were denied entrance to their home by several doors which Hurtado had barricaded from inside. Finally, finding one he missed, they entered their home, curious and fearful.
Ms. Hensley stated she was “mighty surprised” to see Hurtado passed out drunk in her living room. The Hensleys hastily retreated, locked all the doors from the outside and called 911.
When Woodland patrol officers arrived, Hurtado awoke. However, according to WPD Lt. Anthony Cucchi, “The suspect did not … respond to multiple contact attempts made by police.” Instead Hurtado retreated deeper into the Hensley residence
After an hours-long standoff, the Woodland SWAT team was called in. They quickly captured Hurtado.
Hurtado was arrested on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest is now housed at the Yolo County Jail.
