A leading Santa Barbara temp agency executive, who’d been under investigation since May of this year pursuant to suspicions raised by his company’s internal audit, has been arrested on charges of grand theft and the filing of false tax returns.
Freddy Orlando Pachon (51) serving as Vice President of Risk Management for Select Staffing, Inc., with responsibility for the administration of the firm’s Workers’ Compensation account, is accused of having embezzled nearly $700,000 by diverting medical claim reimbursements from Select Staffing into a personal account bearing his name.
According to Santa Barbara Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Riley Harwood, Pachon “embezzled funds from the company from January 2008 to December 2012,” and was the subject of a prolonged investigation led by SBPD Property Crimes Detective Greg Hons, who further determined that Pachon failed to declare any of the purloined funds as income on his state and federal tax returns.
Given those findings, Hons obtained a $700,000 warrant for Pachon’s arrest, as well as a residential search warrant targeting Pachon’s home in Oxnard. Both warrants were executed on August 30th at the Oxnard residence by SBPD Detectives working closely with Oxnard PD and agents assigned to the case from the California Franchise Tax Board. He was taken into custody without incident, arrested, and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $100,000.
