According to PRPD, the series of crimes started on Thursday, Aug. 22 around 8:30 p.m. when police received a report of a victim being assaulted by three Hispanic males. The unidentified victim was sitting in his vehicle on the 300 block of Spring Street when he was attacked.

The victim told police the three suspects confronted him and asked if he was a gang member. The victim said the three suspects began punching him in the face. It is unknown what the victim’s answer was to the suspects.

Police say one suspect pulled out a knife during the attack, but the victim fled in his vehicle and was not hurt badly.

The suspects matched the description from the three involved in the earlier assault.

According to police, the three suspects asked the victim for a ride. The victim drove the suspects to the 800 block of Oak Street where the suspects asked the victim to stop the vehicle.

The victim said the three suspects attacked him once he stopped. He said one of the three pulled a knife and started yelling gang epithets.

Police say the victim’s face was slashed with the knife and his right arm and chest were punctured. However, police say none of the victim’s wounds were life-threatening.

The victim said the three stole his vehicle and fled before police arrived.

Police found the vehicle later in town.

When asked if the three were part of a known criminal gang, PRPD Lieutenant Ty Lewis said, “We aren’t releasing gang affiliations; we don’t want to give any press to gang membership/groups.”
