REDDING — On the 1st of September at approximately 12:30 AM, Redding PD responded to a reported collision between a 2000 Honda Accord and a 1998 Mazda Protege near the intersection of Bechelli Lane and Parsons Drive.

Subsequent investigation unveiled the story as follows — 25-year-old local Jessica R. Mason had been behind the wheel of the Honda driving southbound on Bechelli Lane. She hung a left onto Parsons Drive and into the path of 19-year-old Jessica A. Beck in her Mazda, who’d been unable to come to a stop, and the two cars collided.
Beck and her passengers — 19-year-old Laela A. Cooper and a 17-year-old female, both of Redding — had all been wearing seatbelts at the time and the front airbags successfully deployed, thus none were injured. Mason was also not injured, nor were her two young children (ages 7 and 8, respectively) who’d been riding with her, thanks to seatbelts and airbags.
Further investigation discovered that Mason had been driving under the influence of drugs at the time and she was promptly booked into the Shasta County Jail for driving with a suspended license, felony child endangerment, and driving under the influence of drugs.
The children are currently in the care of another family member.
