HANFORD – Police arrested a man on Monday afternoon after he allegedly called them and told them he had just killed his wife.
The Hanford Police Department received a call from 50-year-old Todd Pate around 12:30 p.m. on Labor Day saying that he had killed his wife, 42-year-old Melanie Pate. He told the dispatcher that he needed someone to come to their home in the 3000 block of Nutmeg Place, according to police.
When officers arrived, they found Melanie Pate submerged in the backyard pool with her throat cut. She was declared dead at the scene.
Todd Pate was arrested and booked into the Kings County Jail on charge of criminal homicide.
Investigators with the Hanford Police Department remained on the scene to gather evidence and collect statements from the neighbors. Police say there have been no previous reported incidents of domestic violence at the Pate home.
The Pates are known to have two children, who were not home during the incident.
