RIALTO – A 16-year nutrition services worker, suspected of stealing thousands of dollars in student lunch money, had resigned from Rialto Unified School District last month after her arrest for grand theft.
Judith Oakes, 48, was caught on surveillance cameras stuffing money into her bra, according to authorities. She will appear in court this week on charges of grand theft, embezzlement and burglary. It is suspected that Oakes’ thefts date back to June, maybe longer.

An original discrepancy of $2,000 in June led to an initial investigation. Oakes worked for the Rialto Unified School District’s Nutrition Services Dept. Police said Oakes was in position to collect thousands of dollars in student lunch money on a daily basis. Money would be sent from the schools to Oakes in order to inventory and deposit into the district’s bank account. A nutrition department audit is awaited on records that may show Oakes juggling account information. The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools office also said it would audit Rialto’s nutrition department.
Oakes, who was in possession of a large amount of cash when she was arrested, had her home searched by police, which turned up more cash and other undisclosed evidence. Police also seized her personal banking and financial records.
Police were notified on Aug. 7 when a supervisor spotted Oakes on video surveillance at least twice stuffing large amounts of cash inside her bra, according to an affidavit filed in San Bernardino Superior Court.
