ANTIOCH – At approximately 6:38 PM on Saturday, local police received reports of a speeding box truck on West 9th street. At around the same time, that very box truck nearly struck a parked police car on West 9th near A Street.
The officer gave chase and pulled the truck over, but immediately dove for cover as the truck wheeled around and tried to run him down.
A chase ensued down A Street, where eventually the truck was abandoned in the SR4 construction area near A and Drake Street. The driver, identified as 45-year-old Eric Lehtinen, made a break for it on foot but was shortly apprehended.
Dispatch notified officers that a burglary alarm had been set off at Ordaz Cultured Marble & Onyx, Inc., to which the truck had been registered – where it was discovered there’d been a break-in and the truck stolen.
Lehtinen was booked on multiple charges and is held at the Martinez Detention Facility.
