BAKERSFIELD — A husband and wife were arrested on Monday after deputies discovered around 200 marijuana plants being grown at a residence in southeast Bakersfield.

Arrested were 60-year-old Sony Tith and 53-year-old Chan Bunthoenn, who were both booked into the Kern County Jail on charges related to cultivating marijuana for sales and conspiracy.
According to deputies from the Kern Narcotics Enforcement Team, the plants along with over 60 pounds of processed marijuana believed to be packaged for sales, were found during a search of the couple’s property in the 4800 Block Olivia Street on Aug. 26..

Officers were serving a search warrant at the conclusion of an ongoing investigation that possible sales of marijuana were taking place from the residence.

A Kern County Sheriff’s office spokesperson said the  bust was significant since the residence is located within close proximity of Greenfield Junior High School and has several hundred juveniles passing by daily.
