An unusual drama erupted on College Avenue in Berkeley Saturday night when suspects in two stolen cars suddenly abandoned the vehicles with the motors running in the middle of the street and fled as a police car happened to be approaching from the opposite direction, according to Berkeley police.
Shortly before 8 p.m., a Berkeley police car was traveling north on College when the occupants of two approaching southbound vehicles suddenly stopped near the intersection with Russell Street, jumped out and began running in several directions, according to Berkeley police Lt. Ed Spiller.
