HOLLISTER — The Hollister Police Department arrested parolee-at-large and gang member Augustine Salas Jr. after they discovered him hiding in a bathroom in a mobile home park.

Officers from the Hollister Police Department responded to the Mission Oaks Mobile Home Park on Birch Lane on a report of a combative man with a knife who’d been involved in a fight with other residents and was also destroying property.
Once on scene, officers located an adult female who was very distraught and screaming. Other residents in the house directed officers to where the man was located — in the bathroom shower.
“Our Officers recognized Salas from the fliers that the probation department circulated along with the bench warrant for his arrest,” Hollister Police Captain Carlos Reynoso said. “Salas had missed a number of his appointments, so the probation department issued a warrant for his arrest.” Salas had been on the run for several months.
He refused to comply with officer’s commands to surrender and a physical altercation ensued, during which officers deployed a taser and Salas was taken into custody without further incident.
He was then transported to Hazel Hawkins Hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the San Benito County Jail on charges of resisting and delaying arrest and parole violations, with a ‘no bail hold’ on the charges as a result of being a parolee at large.
Officers were unable to find any witnesses who could corroborate the use of a knife and there’d been no victim. The distraught female was his mother and refused to cooperate with the police, and as such he has not been charged with the alleged crime that initially drew officers to the trailer park.
