On the morning of Wednesday, September 25, 2013, two young teenagers, one 17-year-old and one 15-year-old, were tracked down by Chico Police, resulting in one of the two young fellows being charged with multiple criminal offenses.

‘According to the press release, the police received a call from a man reporting the spotting of his friend’s stolen white Honda Accord around 16th and Laurel Streets. The suspect was then spotted by Lt. Dye on Boucher Street, where the car sped towards Laurel Street as if the suspect realized he was being followed.
Although Dye lost the suspect, the police continued to search. The relatively small size of the Chico streets proved to beneficial, for it was not long until the search ended.
Shortly after, Officer Ratto recognized the vehicle parked in an alley near 16th and Laurel, and thereafter was informed by a witness that in the suspects’ exit of the car, they had allegedly thrown into a nearby bush what was later found to be a loaded 9mm handgun with a round chamber alongside a pair of metal knuckles. The undeniable danger of this was further confirmed when the officers discovered a 9mm cartridge lying on the floor of the Honda during a subsequent vehicle search.
The actions of the two teenagers led the young 17-year-old to Juvenile Hall that Wednesday for possession of a stolen vehicle, violation of probation, being armed in the commission of a felony, being a gang member in possession of a firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, metal knuckles, and ammunition, according to the press release.
The 15-year-old was able to go home for further investigation. Neither teenager can be identified due to their age. Contrary to their anticipation, the teenagers actions did not go unnoticed, and consequences are being enforced.
