Santa Barbara — Being out on bail on allegations of selling methamphetamine is not exactly sound footing to be on when one is stopped by law enforcement and found to be in possession of more methamphetamine…but that’s exactly what has happened to Randy Herbes, 51, a resident of what some call “the last great beachtown” of Carpinteria.
Herbes was under investigation by Santa Barbara County Sheriffs Narcotics Detectives in February 2013 who suspected he was involved in the street sale of methamphetamine. According to SBSD Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover, a search warrant of his person and vehicle was served on Herbes, and he “was found in possession of 1 ½ ounces of methamphetamine” which led to his arrest and booking on charges of possession for sale.
But just seven months later, “Detectives received information that Herbes was again selling drugs,” Hoover reported, and on September 17th, he was spotted by deputies driving through the area and was pulled over pursuant to a traffic stop. A search of his vehicle revealed ¼ ounce of methamphetamine in his possession, and he was arrested at the scene for possession and transportation of a controlled substance. Because he was already out on bail on nearly identical charges, Herbes was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail with a new bail set at $55,000.
In a separate event on the other side of the city, Christopher Krueger, 24—who had been under investigation for a month by SBSD Narcotics Detectives—was the subject of a search warrant that led to the discovery at his home of cocaine, ecstasy pills, and assorted drug paraphernalia indicative of active sales of controlled substances. Krueger was arrested at his residence and was summarily booked into Santa Barbara County Jail with his bail set at $30,000.
