VENTURA — While most contemporary arrests for possession of controlled substances involve “non-violent” offenders, the arrest of 34-year-old Daniel Henderson, a resident of southeast Ventura County’s Simi Valley—a community with a high percentage of law enforcement and fire department families living throughout many neighborhoods—may be an indication that not all those involved in drugs sales are necessarily benign characters.
Simi Valley Police Department Detectives, working in conjunction with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit, had been investigating Henderson’s activities, as he was under suspicion of working right under the noses of his more civic-minded neighbors throughout Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks, purveying a variety of controlled substances to the buying public.
With a warrant for the search of his person, vehicles, and residence in hand, Henderson was closely surveilled and observed departing a Thousand Oaks shopping mall, at which time he was detained by Simi Valley Police Detectives. According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Rivera, “a team of detectives searched Henderson’s residence” and discovered more than 140 grams of heroin, and 100 grams of marijuana. But what set Henderson somewhat apart from those of his ilk was the additional discovery of “an unregistered assault handgun which included a sound suppressor and high-capacity magazine,” as described by Rivera. Additional evidence found at the residence included “several thousand dollars” lending further credence to the suspicion that Henderson enjoyed a thriving illegal enterprise.
Henderson was booked into East Valley Ventura County Jail with bail set at $1,000,000 on charges of Possession for Sale of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine, Possession of a Silencer, and Violation of State Parole.
