The chase for an attempted bank robber ended early Friday morning after the suspect fell through the roof of an apartment building during his escape.
San Francisco resident, John Franklin, sneaked into the bank ventilator shaft and unknowingly set off a silent alarm during his lone robbery of the Bank of America at the 2400 block of San Bruno Avenue. Officers arrived on the scene around 3:45 am and created a perimeter around the bank to catch the suspect.
After failing to rob the bank, Franklin, 33, tried to flee the scene as the officers approached.
According to Officer Gordon Shyy, Franklin made his way onto the roof of the bank and proceeded to hop over to the neighboring apartment building in his attempt to escape. As the surrounding officers ordered Franklin to put his hands up, the roof of the apartment building caved in. Franklin had fallen into an occupied apartment bedroom and the chase ended.
After the faulty roof soiled his getaway plan, Franklin was taken into custody without further incident. The officers proceeded to book him on burglary charges.
