Monterey Police activate R.O.P.E…

MONTEREY—The Monterey Police Department activated the Road Block Observation Plan of Enforcement  (R.O.P.E) in the hopes that other agencies in the county would help catch two armed suspects.

It proved successful as the Salinas Police arrested the two suspects as they entered the city limits of Salinas.  Arrested were 22-year-old Fabian Robledo of Salinas and a 15-year-old male juvenile from Salinas.

On September 16, officers with the Monterey Police Department responded to Classic Coachworks at 368 East Franklin Street on a report of a robbery by an armed suspect.  Upon their arrival at the scene officers learned that the armed suspect wore a mask as he entered the business and brandished a handgun.

The suspect left the business without taking anything and no one was hurt during the commission of the robbery. The suspect was also seen getting into a white Honda that was driven by a Hispanic male.

Armed with the description of the vehicle, Monterey Police activated R.O.P.E.  About 20-minutes later the Salinas Police Department advised Monterey Authorities that they had located the suspects in the 1200 block of South Main in Salinas.

The Salinas Police made contact with the two suspects outside of the McDonald’s in the Star Shopping Center.  Police located two handguns and a similar mask that was used in the robbery.

“The Officer was sitting, waiting and observing when he noticed the suspected vehicle,” Salinas Police Officer Chris Lane said, “They were acting suspiciously, we found weapons in their vehicle and a mask.”

Salinas Police arrested the two suspects and turned them over to the Monterey Police Department.  Robledo, a former employee of Classic Coachworks, was booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, and using a firearm in commission of a felony with gang enhancements.  His Bail has been set at 180,000.00 dollars.

The juvenile was transported to Monterey County Juvenile Hall in Salinas.
