A pastor at a Norwalk church is being accused of sexually assaulting more than 20 of his parishioners, many of who were undocumented immigrants.
Norwalk resident Jorge Juan Castro, 53 was arrested Sept. 13 on suspicion of rape, oral copulation and penetration by a foreign object. Castro allegedly tried to control his victims by threatening them with deportation. But several of the victims told their friends, who came forward and reported the crimes to police.
The assaults may have started as early as 2004, said authorities, with the victims’ ages ranging from 18 to 39.
Castro is an associate pastor and counselor at Las Buenas Nuevas Church. He’s also a pastor at a church in Riverside County, but no one there has come forward as a victim.
As of Thursday Castro was being held on $2 million bail, according to media reports.
