Santa Barbara – Look up the definition of “determined” or “desperate” in your Funk & Wagnall’s and you just might find a the somewhat hyper-focused countenance of Joseph Lagattuta, 22, staring back at you.

Joseph Lagattuta

Lagattuta is the man arrested by Lompoc Police Department Detectives pursuant to an early morning 911 Emergency call on September 17th, alerting law enforcement to a burglary in progress at a downtown medical office building.  According to Lompoc Police Department spokesman Sgt. Chuck Strange, once officers arrived on the scene “it was determined that someone had driven a vehicle into the business in an attempt to break the door open.”  Further investigation pointed to the fact that whoever had been behind the wheel was unable to gain access to the secure premises and resorted to hurling a concrete block through the office window.

In his report to the media, Strange revealed that “prescription narcotics and other property had been stolen from inside the medical office.”  Immediate investigation conducted by Lompoc Detectives led them to identify Lagattuta as the likely suspect.  Pursuant to that conclusion, members of the Lompoc Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team, along with patrol officers, reported to Lagattuta’s residence and conducted a probation search of the premises.  That search revealed evidence of the incident burglary, and Lagattuta was taken into custody.

Shortly thereafter, “he later confessed to committing the burglary,” Strange commented.  Lagattuta was then booked into Lompoc City Jail on charges of commercial burglary, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, with his bail set at $30,000.
