HAWTHORNE, CA—Some people elect to stop paying rent, some sleep on the street, and some manage to sweet-talk their way into bed.
Shanell Sparkle Hansborough, a 21-year old student from Clark Street in Bellflower, CA and Myesha Lashaunda Coleman, an unemployed 35-year old from West 29th Street in Los Angeles, were picked up on Hawthorne Boulevard at 133rd Street on Sunday, September 8, at about 4:15 p.m. Hawthorne police charged the two women for “defrauding an innkeeper by non-payment.”
The area is filled with a number of 24-hour joints: Denny’s, a laundromat and not too far north, Los Angeles International Airport and its high-traffic strip clubs, street walkers, and discrete motels along Imperial Highway as well as down Hawthorne Blvd. While neither of the women were cited for loitering or intent to prostitute, they were on foot and had apparently slipped out from an unnamed motel.
Bail of $500 was set for each woman. Making bail is usually 10% of the bail set, and given that the average price of the area motels is $75, these two may have made out with a discount after all.
