HOLLISTER — Officers with Hollister PD along with members of the Unified Narcotic Enforcement Team (UNET) have charged gang members and Hollister residents Sergio Cervantes Jr. (23) and his brother Alfredo Cervantes (19) with possession of a shotgun with altered serial numbers.

On mid-morning last Tuesday, both the Hollister Police Department and the UNET team made a compliance check at the residence of known gang members Sergio and Alfredo Cervantes on the 900 block of South Street.
The two brothers were in custody in the San Benito County Jail on unrelated charges. During their search of the home, officers found a Winchester Model 1300 home defense shotgun in the closet that had altered serial numbers.

Additional charges of a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of firearm with an altered serial number were added to the brothers’ current sentences.
“The Hollister Police Department is committed to work with all area law enforcement agencies in the area,” Hollister Police Chief David Westrick said, “Without the collaborative effort between area agencies we would not be able to combat the city of Hollister’s gang problem.”
This operation was conducted in support of the city’s Safe Communities and Neighborhoods project, which is funded by the Board of State and Community Corrections CAL GRIP program. This grant supports the city’s police departments in their effort to combat gang related incidents.
