SANTA CLARA COUNTY – A complaint filed by the District Attorney’s office has charged 27-year-old Andrew Zumini on September 10 with the murder of Anthony Zumini under PC 187. This marked San Jose’s 35th homicide this year. It is believed that during the act Andrew Zumini used a 9mm semi-automatic pistol in the killing of Anthony Zumini, which under the provisions of PC 12022.53(d), (c), and (b) would add up to 25 years to his sentence if convicted. Attorney Jeffrey E. Elliott, Esq. has been appointed as the attorney for the Defendant in this case. No Bail has been assigned for the release of the suspect.
Included in a statement of the facts provided by homicide detectives “The suspect Andrew Zumini shot and killed his father.” Lead homicide investigators assigned to the case were able to provide facts based on witness statements, physical evidence and scene observations identifying Andrew Zumini as the shooter. When officers arrived at the scene Anthony Zumini was found lying face down on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
According to Sergeant Heather Randol with the San Jose Police Department, “On September 6, 2013 at approximately 9:39 P.M., The San Jose Police Department’s 9-1-1 Communications Center received a report of a male shot in the 900 block of Gilchrist Drive in San Jose.” Investigators from the SJPD Crime Scene Unit located several bullet shell casings from a distance of 10 feet to 50 feet from where the victim fell. The male victim identified as 46-year-old Anthony Zumini had at least eight gunshot wounds, with a concentrating of the wounds located in his back.
“San Jose Police arrested the suspect on September 7th and booked him into the Santa Clara County Jail for homicide,” Randol said. Witnesses near the scene of the shooting told officers that they had seen the victim’s son shooting his father from the roadway as he exited his vehicle. It was then the victim’s son ran up to him and began shooting him in the back more than eight times at close range.
Investigators revealed that, “the witness knew both the victim and the suspect personally and witnessed the shooting.” The witnesses stated, “The suspect was the victim’s son and has had an ongoing personal dispute with the victim.”
