San Bernardino County Raids Net Hundreds in Marijuana Plants

LANDERS – Hundreds of marijuana plants and weapons were seized, and the arrests of 16 people took place in a sting operation on Wednesday by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies, raiding areas in both Yucca Valley and Landers.

In the 61600 block of Neptune Avenue in Landers, eight people were discovered harvesting and processing marijuana, said investigators. The two residents, James Hubbard, 64, and James Hubbard, Jr. 32, were arrested.

Deputies reporting the seizure of 174 plants that ranged from three to five-feet tall, plus 100 pounds of processed marijuana, two grams of cocaine and a .22 caliber rifle. The Hubbards, along with Leobegldo Antonio, 45, Ronald Aquilar, 25, Oscar Fuentes, 32, Angel Flores, 21, Daniel Ortuno, 23, Jesus Tapia, 27, and Hector Sanchez Uvalle, 26, were all arrested by deputies.

Also in Landers, deputies arrested Bounma Yommarath, 58, and Thavon Phouthavong, 38, on suspicion of cultivation after they discovered 414 plants growing on the property in the 60500 block of Loraine Rd. Deputies also raided the property at the 1200 block of Goat Mountain Road, where they discovered 421 marijuana plants. Arrested on suspicion of cultivation were Phou Keomahaxay, 55, and Vanphachay Chanthaachone, 45. Police described minimal furnishings inside the home, leading investigators to determine that the property was being used only for cultivation purposes, said authorities.

Two hours later, deputies discovered 378 marijuana plants growing on a 1 ½-acre area at the 3000 block of Sage Ave., an unincorporated area near Yucca Valley. Also discovered were two pounds of processed marijuana. Sengchanh Nanthavondouangsy, 44, and Manikhone Chithavong, 59, were arrested on suspicion of cultivating marijuana.

One day earlier, deputies raided a home on the 11500 block of Locust Ave. in Hesperia, arresting Rodrigo Antonio Magana Perez, 52, and Juan Carlos Magana Pimentel, 33, after discovering 169 marijuana plants ranging from three to feet in height. Numerous firearms were confiscated along with four pounds of cultivated marijuana.
