In the early morning hours of Wednesday, 4th of September, Los Angeles County firefighters extinguishing a small fire in the Castaic area on Lake Hughes Road made a grisly discovery – the burned and bullet-ridden corpse of a man, later identified as 35-year-old Los Angeles resident Lamondre Miles.
Homicide investigators determined that Miles, who’d suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso, had been killed elsewhere before being taken to the Castaic area and set on fire.
Sheriff’s investigators, on the trail of several leads alongside Hawthorne Police detectives, surmised that Miles had been murdered in a car – a black 2007 Chevy Monte Carlo that has since been impounded by police – in the Crenshaw Boulevard / 105 Freeway area in Hawthorne the day before.
Further investigation resulted in the arrest of two suspects – 23-year-old Joanna Amezcua and her 22-year-old brother, Luis – at their respective homes in South Los Angeles this past Friday, September 6th. On September 10th, the two were formally charged by the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office with one count of murder each, with bail set at $1,000,000.
Joanna Amezcua’s boyfriend, 33-year-old Javier Vega of South Los Angeles, was also charged that same day with accessory to murder and arson on $575,000 bail.
Though motive is still under investigation, it appears to have been over a dispute concerning money that Miles had allegedly owed the suspects.
