BAKERSFIELD — A Sacramento man suspected of human trafficking is behind bars in Bakersfield.

900 Block of Real Road

Hasani Syas, 36, was arrested by Bakersfield Police on Monday and booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of sexual assault, human trafficking, spousal abuse, pimping and criminal threats.

According to Public Information Officer Michaela Sims, officers were dispatched to a call of suspicious circumstances and possible sexual assault in the 900 block of Real Road at around 10:20 p.m. on Sept. 9.

“When officers arrived they made contact with an adult female victim,” Sims said. “She  had obvious visible injuries.”

During further investigation, officers discovered that Syas had forced the victim to engage in acts of prostitution over the past year.

“Evidence also revealed that the suspect had struck the victim, strangled her and sexually assaulted her during an attempted to escape earlier in the day,” Sims added.

During the assault, police report that Syas also threatened to kill the victim, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
