ROSAMOND — Three children were saved from an apartment and armed parolee was arrested during a SWAT standoff in the small rural community of Rosamond on Tuesday.
Dwight Richard Lawson Jr., 24, was taken into custody by Kern County Sheriff’s deputies for possession of a firearm after a previous felony conviction as a minor, receiving stolen property, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, delaying or resisting arrest, possession of an assault rifle and a no bail parole warrant.

He was booked into the Sheriff’s Office Central Receiving Facility with bail being set at $50,000. However, he is not being releases from as he is being held without bail on the parole warrant.
According to authorities, deputies from the Rosamond substation responded to a keep the peace call regarding a child custody matter at an apartment located in the 1300 block of Rosamond Boulevard at around 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 9.
“During their investigation deputies discoverer that the suspect who was watching a child was a parolee at large,” said Ray Pruitt a spokesperson for the sheriff’s dept. “They also determined that Lawson had a no bail parole warrant for his arrest and was considered armed and dangerous, as well as being in possible possession of a firearm.”
Deputies from the Rosamond, Mojave and Tehachapi substations then attempted to contact Lawson at the apartment where he and three adults and two additional children were inside, but he refused to answer duputies commands to exit the residence.
Deputies then requested the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team to respond, and after a period of time Lawson and the other adults exited the apartment and were detained.
The apartment was searched and all three children were found inside safe and uninjured, as well as an assault rifle, which had recently been reported stolen from the California City area.
The other adults were released pending further investigation.
