Mountain Manhunt Continues For Cop Killer

SAN BERNARDINO – A $1 million reward on a suspect cop killer has led to several tips from the public, but police haven’t disclosed whether they’re any closer to the capture of an ex-police officer seeking revenge.

Police have released two recent images of Dorner from a surveillance video taken on January 28th.

Christopher Dorner, 33, is wanted in connection with shooting deaths of Riverside Police Officer Michael Cain, a Redlands High School graduate, along with an Irvine couple, plus shooting another yet-to-be-identified Riverside officer in a random spree last week.

Dorner, a former Los Angeles police officer who was fired, released a lengthy manifesto on Facebook last week. In that, Dorner says he is purposely targeting police officers and their families as revenge for being unjustly terminated from the LAPD some five years ago.

Police have received several false leads from the public on possible Dorner sightings. Having converged on snowy Big Bear in the San Bernardino Mountains last week, where Dorner’s vehicle was found burning, police still have not located him.

Over the weekend, LAPD announced a $1 million reward for the capture and conviction of Dorner, a 6-foot-1, 270-pound black man. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said there was no new evidence that Dorner is near Big Bear, which is where his mother had a mountain cabin. On Monday in Big Bear, San Bernardino County deputies were on saturation patrols in the areas where the residential neighborhoods run against the foothills. Sheriff’s officials said there is no new evidence that Dorner is near Big Bear, which is at an elevation of 7,000 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains. “There have been no sightings of Dorner in the Big Bear area,” said a sheriff’s statement.

One of the three people killed allegedly by Dorner was Monica Quan, the daughter of Randy Quan. He is a former LAPD officer turned union lawyer, who had represented Dorner at his board of rights hearing. Some 50 families were placed under police protection, according to statements from agencies in both Riverside and Los Angeles.

Riverside police officer Michael Crain was just one of Dorner's victims.

Early Thursday morning, a witness told police that a man resembling Dorner was at a Corona gas station. The man flagged down LAPD officers, who had been sent to Corona to protect someone on Dorner’s manifesto. The officers followed the vehicle north to Magnolia Avenue, where the suspect fired at them with a rifle, authorities said. One officer suffered a graze wound to his head. Dorner was believed to have headed north on Magnolia into neighboring Riverside.

About 1:35 a.m., two Riverside police officers on routine patrol were ambushed while stopped at a red light at Magnolia and Arlington avenues. They were shot repeatedly with an assault rifle. 34-year-old officer Michael Crain died at the scene. The other officer, a 27-year-old trainee who had just joined the department, was hit at least six times and was in intensive care. Dorner’s burning Nissan Titan pickup was found later Thursday morning on a snowy road in Big Bear.

Vacaville – A traffic stop in Modesto on January 31, led Vacaville police to arrest Lori Lynn Riley, 34, and William Anthony Riley, 37, both of Fairfield. It also turned out to be the tip of a marijuana operation iceberg.

A seach of the Riley's home revealed a large cache of guns and marijuana

According to police, at the time of the arrest the Rileys had about 50 pounds of processed marijuana with an estimated street value of $250,000, and a hand gun. The suspects were then transported back to their home in the 400 block of Begonia Blvd. in Fairfield, and a search of the home was conducted.

Located at the home were: seven firearms, including a .50-caliber bolt action rifle; more marijuana; and approximately $29,000 in cash. Also located was a three-foot long baby alligator, which was turned over to Solano County Humane Animal Services. The suspects were then booked into Solano County Jail, charged with possession, transportation and intention to sell marijuana and possession of an assault weapon, all felonies, as well as with carrying a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The Riley's housepet as found, and prepared for transport to Animal Services

Resulting from this investigation was the search of two homes in Vallejo with warrants served by Vacaville Narcotics Enforcement and Crime Suppression Teams. No further arrests were made but a approximately 900 marijuana plants were found in indoor growing operations.

Suspect Killed by Visalia Officer was Ex-Felon and Drug Dealer

VISALIA – The man shot to death by a police officer during a traffic stop last week has been identified as an ex-felon and a drug dealer.

Armando Santibanez

The Visalia Police Department identified the suspect as 22-year-old Armando Santibanez of Visalia. Police Chief Colleen Mestas said that the narcotics unit “was familiar with Santibanez and had arrested him on two prior occasions.”

Police were hoping to arrest the suspect again when they pulled him over in a white BMW Friday afternoon one block away from Annie R. Mitchell Elementary School in Visalia. They say he had been selling meth and using rental cars without a license to make the deals.

When the officers pulled him over, Santibanez “was immediately defiant to the commands of our officers,” Mestas said. “He began to roll up his window and he began to rev the engine.”

Officers yelled at the suspect to stop moving his hands, but he failed to listen to officers, and instead appeared to be reaching for something, Mestas said.

“Our officer shot five times at the suspect believing that at any time of the revving of this engine that was continual, that the car was going to prevent him from living or other citizens,” Mestas said.

Santibanez was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police found a 9mm handgun under the seat with nine bullets in it. The gun had been reported stolen out of Los Angeles. Police also found a bullet casing on the car floor and a nylon mask.

The officer involved in the shooting is on paid leave.

“I support the actions of our officers,” Mestas said.

Santibanez had felony convictions for possession of drugs for sale. He had also been arrested for DUI, resisting arrest, reckless driving with bodily injury, being an unlicensed driver and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

SANTA MARIA – An unidentified male was allegedly kidnapped, threatened with a weapon and robbed before his weekend even started, according to the Police Department.

Jose Arredondo, 19

The 33-year-old victim, whose name police aren’t releasing, was taken to a home on the north side of the city sometime on Friday, February 8, where he was robbed of his personal property and held against his will. He was later allegedly forced into a vehicle by the three suspects, who threatened him with a weapon when he tried to escape, police said.

The three suspects eventually dropped the victim off just before 7:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of North Western, where he contacted law enforcement.

Juan Hilario, 22

The police located two of the suspects, Jose Arredondo, 19, and Annabel Hilario, 20, driving around Santa Maria in the same vehicle they allegedly forced the victim into. They were arrested without incident and booked in the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping, robbery and false imprisonment, police said.

Officers later served a search warrant at a residence in Santa Maria, where they located the third suspect, Juan Hilario,  22, who was also arrested and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of kidnapping, robbery and false imprisonment. All three suspects also face charges of gang enhancement connected to the incident.

Dorner The Likely Body Inside Burned Cabin

$

SAN BERNARDINO – County deputies believe that Christopher Dorner, suspected in multiple ambushes on police personnel since last week, was found burned to death in a mountain cabin after a dramatic confrontation on Tuesday. The cabin, located in the San Bernardino mountains community of Angelus Oaks, is a short distance away from Big Bear, where law enforcement agencies had tracked Dorner to last week.

There is still a live Facebook page with Christopher Dorner's name, and this profile photo

On Tuesday, Dorner reportedly shot and killed one deputy and wounded another before ducking into a vacation cabin, where he was spotted by law enforcement agencies. A former Los Angeles policeman who was terminated in 2009, Dorner vowed revenge on any law enforcement individuals and their families in a manifesto released by L.A. police. Officials reported that Dorner’s driver’s license was found in the rubble of the cabin after the fire was extinguished. It may take weeks to determine the identity of the body that was discovered.

Dorner was on the run for nine days before Tuesday’s shootout in the mountains. He is the suspected shooter in a Feb. 7 ambush that claimed the life of Riverside police officer Michael Crain, 34, along with a police trainee who was shot and injured in the attack. A week earlier, Dorner was the likely shooter in the killing of an Irvine man, Keith Lawrence, and woman, Monica Quan, whose father was connected to the panel that led to Dorner’s dismissal from the police force years earlier.

He had been fired for making false allegations of using excessive force by his training officer. In response, Dorner posted online threats against any law enforcement officer, along with their families, unless the LAPD admitted making a mistake.

Dorner had military and police training, making him an especially deadly fugitive

On Tuesday, Dorner reportedly tied up two women at their Club View home in Big Bear, stole their vehicle and continued eastbound toward the Jenks Lake Area, on Highway 38, which is near Angelus Oaks. The women, found unharmed, described the assailant as resembling Dorner. Dorner reportedly crashed that vehicle, eventually carjacking a white pickup truck. The man driving the pickup was allowed to go, but he called 911, leading law enforcement officers closer to a showdown.

By 12:45 p.m., a Department of Fish & Wildlife official spotted the white pickup heading in his direction on Highway 38. He pursued the truck, and they eventually traded gunfire. The drive, who was suspected to be Dorner, wound up stuck in the snow, and fled by foot, using several smoke grenades to cover his escape, said reports, before he barricaded himself inside a vacant cabin on Seven Oaks Rd.

Law enforcement agencies surrounded the cabin with dozens of uniformed officers, trading several rounds of gunfire, which included sending tear gas into the cabin by SWAT team officers. Two deputies, shot by the suspect, were airlifted to nearby Loma Linda University Medical Center. One was declared dead at 2:24 p.m. while the other officer underwent surgery. He is expected to recover, according to county sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Bachman.

At 4 p.m., a gunshot was heard from inside the cabin after which it caught fire and burned for several hours.

An Oroville man was been arrested for a rather unique advertisement on Craigslist.

Pierce agreed to trade marijuana for a similar boat

According to the Oroville police, Billy Jack Pierce III, 33, posted an ad on Craigslist in which he was willing to trade his marijuana for a boat. The posting got the attention of the police and the undercover officers responded to the ad offering him a 26-foot 1992 Mirage ski boat for the drugs.

Not knowing whom he was dealing with, Pierce agreed to meet the officers in Eureka at a Frisbee golf course. The police met Pierce at 5 pm on Friday, February 8. According to the police, Pierce had three pounds of processed marijuana on him, worth about $2,500, which he claimed was for medical purposes.

Vacaville – Police arrested three people early Monday morning when it was discovered that the vehicle they were in was stolen. All were booked into Solano County Jail.

Cruising Nut Tree Road at 3 AM, the trio acted even more suspiciously when they saw the police...

The incident began a little after 3:00 a.m. when a patrol officer noticed a Toyota Camry on Nut Tree Road with three passengers inside. On seeing the officer, the three began acting suspiciously, which in turn increased the officer’s attention on the vehicle. After discovering the Camry had been reported as stolen in Sacramento, the officer conducted a traffic stop.

The registered owner was not one of the passengers of the vehicle, and it also came to light that the plates on the Camry were stolen from a vehicle in San Jose. It was further discovered that Ortiz and Villarreal were on probation from Santa Clara and San Joaquin counties, respectively, and Ramos had been sentenced to prison time but released under the auspices of Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).

Ortiz was additionally charged with auto theft. Ramos was charged with possession of counterfeit bills as well as violating the PRCS terms. Villarreal was additionally charged with possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Woman leaves her companions after DUI injury crash

$

Vacaville – Police are seeking a woman named Jasmine who left the scene of a single-car accident that occurred late Monday evening near Dobbins and Deodora Streets. She was in the front seat of a vehicle driven by Anthony Barragan-Sullivan, 21, who was arrested for DUI and driving with a suspended license. Because the two backseat passengers were seriously injured, the DUI charges against him are felonies.

Unable to negatiate this curve while intoxicated, Barragan-Sullivan hit the curb and power pole, injuring the backseat passengers.

Firefighters had to cut away pieces of the damaged vehicle in order to extricate the two women in the backseat. They were taken to a local hospital, where one was listed as being in serious condition and the other in stable condition. Their names were not released but one of the women is the owner of the damaged vehicle.

Investigation into the accident revealed that the group of friends had been drinking and were in the process of driving home. It was decided that Barragan-Sullivan was the least intoxicated so he took the wheel. But he miscalculated a curve on Dobbins street. The vehicle hit a curb, turned sideways, and ended up running into a utility pole. The impact shattered the lower half of the pole and resulted in a neighborhood power outage.

Barragan-Sullivan called police to report the accident. The woman in the passenger seat, Jasmine, who left the scene and may be injured, was later sought by police but not located.

Anyone with information about this incident, including information regarding the missing passenger, should call Vacaville police at (707) 449-5200 and ask for Officer Bob Horel.

Gang related shooter arrested

18-year old Domingo Daniel Laurel was charged with PC 664(a) – 187 under a gang enhancement charge of attempted murder.  Laurel had discharged a hand gun under PC 12022.7, and being a minor at the time charges are alleged, under PC 707(d)(1), he may be charged as an adult.

Sgt. Jason Dwyer with the San Jose Police department said, “Gang related assaults and non-related assaults investigated by the gang or assault unit.”  If a juvenile is found to be involved in a violent assault, investigations are lead by the Assaults/Juvenile Unit.

On Jan 20, 2013 an assault with a deadly weapon occurred near 2155 Lanai, Valley Palms Apartments in San Jose.  The victim was parked in front of his residence when the suspect fired at him, striking him several times.  The suspect was found later with a loaded .40 caliber magazine, and was booked into juvenile hall.

A party near this apartment complex turned violent in January.

An officer with the SJPD joined in the search to help find the shooter after an initial call to the department’s 9-1-1 call center.  The shooting was reported to have occurred near Pensacola Drive and Lanai Ave.  A small colored car was seen driving away from the scene at the time of the shooting, where a party was being held.  In front of the party location, several .40 caliber casings were found.  Party goers at the residence began to gather in the front yard after they had heard gunshots in an effort to find out what was going on. Several people were able to recognize the vehicle and driver seen fleeing the area.

Several witness believed that the suspect of the shooting had come back to the party house near where the victim had been shot.  Several party goers identified the possible driver as Domingo Dominguez.  There were more than 30 to 40 different individuals who were at the party, and they allowed officers to walk through the residence in order to identify a possible suspect.  The suspect identified himself as Domingo Laurel when confronted by officers in the rear bedroom of the home.

Investigators reported that the area is associated with a high level of gang activity associated with Sureno gang members.  Several people believed that the shooting was gang related.

A magazine was located in the garage area. The .40 caliber ammunition was similar to the casings found in the street where the suspect had shot at the victim from his car.  After officers interviewed several witnesses, Laurel was identified as the suspect. Laurel, however, claimed he had no involvement in the shooting and “denied ever shooting a gun in his life”.

Witnesses said a fight had broken out at the party and, the victim told his friends that they should “bounce”.  It was at this time they were attempting to leave the party the suspect pointed a loaded firearm at the victim and fired at his neck at which time he told his friends to run.  He was subsequently shot in the leg once he started to flee.  The group was able to drive to a DUI check point to report the assault.

Dwyer said, “The department will dispatch a report that states a DUI checkpoint will be set-up, but does not tell the general public where it will be.”  The San Jose Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI/Drivers License Check point in the area of Story and King.

The victim was then transported to Regional Medical Center where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his neck and leg..

Hollister Man Arrested for Arson

HOLLISTER—The Hollister Police Department has arrested 33-year-old Hollister resident Jason Wayne Spears on charges of arson. Investigators have not decided if Spears had any involvement in the recent string of arsons that have occurred in Hollister since November.

In the early morning hours of February 9, an eye witness called the police after he saw Spears attempt to set fire to a condominium.  The witness detained Spears as he waited for police.

Jason Wayne Spears

Officer Chris Wells of the Hollister Police Department and Captain Mike O’Conner of the Hollister Fire Department responded to the scene.  Their preliminary investigation found several sites where Spears had attempted to set fire to the condominium units where he lived.  However, no serious damage was found to the condominiums.

“When we got there they showed us where he tried starting the fires with a lighter,”  Hollister Police Chief Carlos Reynoso said. “He did not have prior vendettas with anyone in the condominium complex.”

Reynoso also added, “It seems that he may just like to see things burn, and that is very dangerous.”

Spears was arrested on five charges of arson to an inhabited structure and/or property.  Officer Wells recalled that earlier that morning he was called to the scene of a similar arson case, where an exterior wall, interior curtains and light fixture were among the objects damaged.

Evidence from that fire was found on Spears at the time of his arrest.  Investigators with both the Police and Fire Departments executed a search warrant at his residence on the 1300 block of Versailles and found additional evidence related to arson crimes. “When we searched his home we found other evidence that pertain to arson like some high intensity butane lighters,” said Reynoso.

Police are also investigating whether Spears had any involvement in the recent incidents that occurred in Hollister since November 14, when a medical office building caught on fire in the early morning hours and was completely destroyed.

The Hollister Police Department would like to thank the citizens that took time to get involved.  This is another example of citizens trying to make their communities a safer place to live.

Anyone with information regarding these cases is requested to contact the Hollister Police Department at 831-636-4330.  Person wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at 800-78-CRIME.  Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a reward.

Suspect in Child Porn Case Now Facing Molestation Charges

FRESNO – A suspect arrested earlier this month on child pornography charges also acted on his impulses with a teenage boy, police said.

David Hume, 36

Federal agents first went to 36-year-old David Hume’s home, in the 5100 block of East Ashlan Avenue in Fresno, on January 30 to investigate him for allegedly downloading child pornography. Authorities say Hume had images and videos of child pornography on his computer that he distributed over a file-sharing network. They put him under arrest.

While interviewing Hume, detectives discovered that he had found an underage boy on Craigslist through personal ads. Court records show that the two talked online and exchanged text messages before meeting up at Shafer Park in Selma.

By looking through chats online that took place between Hume and the 13-year-old boy, detectives determined that the two had sexual contact. The criminal complaint against Hume alleges that he took the boy to a residence on two occasions and sexually assaulted him.

An interview with the young boy confirmed the sexual contact, authorities said.

Court records also show that Hume had a conversation online where he talked about being interested in boys from 5 to 12 years old. Hume also said online that he had sexual relations with an 8-year-old boy. Leading investigators worried that he has had prior offenses.

Hume is facing a charge of online enticement of a minor as well as distribution of child pornography.

Pair charged with murder and identity theft

The fate behind a body that was found in the Angeles National Forest became clearer with the recent arrests of two suspects by LASD deputies. 21-year-old Erik Thomas Pearson and 26-year-old Donald Thurman, both residents of Burbank, were charged with the January 7th murder of 25-year-old Nicholas Carter during their February 13th arraignment at the Los Angeles Superior Court in Pasadena.

The victim, Nicholas Carter's Facebook photo was updated just days before he was reported missing

On January 8th, the LASD was contacted when a hiker discovered a trail of blood along Big Tujunga Canyon Road. While human remains weren’t immediately recovered, search teams eventually found Carter’s body several hundred yards away on January 19th.

Upon identifying Carter’s body, the LASD learned that Carter had been the subject of a missing person’s report filed in Glendale. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office also revealed that Carter had died of blunt force trauma.

In a later press release from the LASD, authorities allege that Pearson and Thurman beat Carter to death, buried his body, and then stole his identity. Pearson and Thurman’s charges reflect those allegations: both are charged with Capital Murder and special circumstances of robbery and lying in wait.

An earlier profile photo of murder victim Nicholas Carter

As prosecutors determine whether to seek the death penalty, both Pearson and Thurman are being held without bail.

The LASD was not available for comment.

Felony Suspect Arrested in Seaside

Police arrest girlfriend one day earlier.

Glenn Andrew Edwards, 19

Seaside police made two arrests over the weekend after they responded to a tip that a felony suspect was at a local hotel on Saturday, February 9.

As the Sand City Police were setting up a perimeter outside the Gateway Hotel on Fremont Boulevard the felony warrant suspect, Glenn Andrew Edwards, 19, and his girlfriend, April Nicole Buckley, 18, ran from the area in an attempt to elude them.

According to Seaside Police Department Deputy Chief Louis Lumpkin, “Edwards was wanted on robbery charges stemming from a January 30 incident.”

April Nicole Buckley, 18

As the couple turned around the corner, the officers heard a small caliber gunshot.  It is unknown who fired the shot as the suspects were out of sight of police. One of the officers caught up with Buckley a short time later, who bit him on the arm as she was being taken into custody. Buckley was booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and committing a felony while released on bail.

Meanwhile, Edwards left Buckley behind and continued to flee jumping over multiple fences that aided in his escape.

An extensive search was launched for him with the assistance of other agencies.  A California Highway Patrol Air Helicopter and a K-9 unit assisted in the search but Edwards was not located.  The search continued until 10:45 p.m.

“We were unable to determine whether he was shooing at the officers,” Deputy Chief Lumpkin said. “A weapon was never recovered neither time we encountered Edwards.”

The police were notified that Edwards was staying at this hotel

About 24-hours later, Seaside Police Department initialized another search for Edwards.  He was found a short time later sleeping in a family member’s vehicle in the parking lot of Del Monte Manor.

The Seaside Police were able to gain access to the vehicle and Edwards was swiftly taken into custody.  He was transported to Monterey County Jail and booked on charges of committing a robbery with a firearm.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Seaside Police Department at 831-899-6748 or the Anonymous Tip-Line at 831-899-6282.

Everett Basham

State Senator Leland Yee in a press conference in San Francisco on Feb 14 said, “The author of [an] email specifically stated  that if I did not cease efforts to deal with gun violence that he would assassinate me in or around the State Capitol.”

45-year-old Everett Basham is being held without bail in the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges stemming from death threats against a state official, possession of bomb making materials, and or possession of an explosive material device.  “This threat detailed how he was going to carry it out,” State Senator Yee said. State Senator Yee explained that the shooting of young children in Connecticut was one reason why he was trying to tighten gun laws through the California State Legislation.  “These things motivate you to do all you can, maybe even risking your own life,” State Senator Yee said.

Basham's home

Neighbors who lived near Basham had a direct view of his roof, which displayed several video surveillance cameras, and two meter based amateur radio antennas on his home roof, with another placed on the roof of Basham’s garage.  A short wave amateur radio operator would register with the Federal Communications Commission to receive a permit in order to transmit and receive signals from all around the world using a short wave transceiver.

Residents who lived near Basham said they thought he was in the media or something with all the antennas on the roof.  They never saw the guy, and didn’t know what was going on.

The home had radio antennae and surveillance cameras mounted on the roof

Paramedics and the Fire Department with Santa Clara were on standby as several county wide and state agencies, including the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad and CHP Investigators, were continuing the search that started on Tuesday when officers served a search warrant.  However the investigation quickly erupted into a potentially week long search for explosive materials found at 3131 Humbolt Ave in Santa Clara four weeks after the original threat was sent.

A victim of a vehicle theft in Shasta County personally aided police in the investigation.

Wert spotted her vehicle being towed from this approximate location

After reporting her stolen vehicle to the Redding Police Department, Chelsea Wart led her own investigation to find it.

She reportedly used Facebook to collect information on her vehicle and was able to track it down to Shasta Lake. She then, went out herself and found the rear portion of her vehicle being towed from 1990 Hardenbrook Ave. Wart notified the police of her findings and followed the vehicle until she lost sight of it near Vallecito Street.

The deputies responded to Wart’s call and began watching the suspect’s home on Hardenbrook. The car was towed from that site. After an authorized search warrant of the home the suspect, identified as Cody Geisman, 23, admitted that he stole the vehicle and dismantled it. The deputies later found the front of the vehicle and the engine in different areas of the city and county. They also found a loaded “AK 47” assault rifle and other weapons during the search of the residence.

Geisman was arrested along with Krayton Lee Bodner, 32, whose involvement in the theft is not specified. The deputies are still investigating the case and say that more arrests may follow.

Catholic School Teacher Arrested after Requesting Sexual Photos from Young Males on Facebook

IRVINE- A Catholic school teacher was arrested this past Saturday by Irvine Police on suspicion of lewd conduct with a child.

Zachary Reeder

30-year-old Zachary Reeder of Orange is accused of allegedly posing as a blonde Caucasian female on Facebook and befriending underage males. Once he established an inappropriate relationship with the victims, he then persuaded them to take sexually explicit photos of themselves and send them to him. Over the two years that the incidents occurred, Reeder made contact with several boys, one as young as 14-years-old.

Reeder, who was formerly a history teacher at Servite High School in Anaheim, is married with one daughter. He previously worked at Beckman High School, where he was a walk-on assistant baseball coach.

The Irvine Police Department is working closely with personnel from both high schools to ensure that Reeder did not have physical access to any students, and to notify parents of his arrest.

“Detectives are investigating the possibility that Reeder targeted victims to befriend through his employment at Servite High School in Anaheim where he has worked as a history teacher since the fall of 2008,” Irvine police said in a news release.

Investigators continue to publicize the case, in the hopes that other victims will come out with information.

Reeder has been charged with lewd conduct with a child, possession and distribution of child pornography and child annoyance. His bail has been set at $1 million.

Detectives believe there may be more victims who have not yet been identified and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Frough Jahid at 949-724-7184 or fjahid@cityofirvine.org.

Jail Records Keeper Headed for Jail

Santa Barbara – Facing charges of first degree residential burglary, Mary Methmann, 45, has worked as a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Custody Records Department staffer since 2005, but is now going to be out of work for a while.

Mary Methmann

Things began to unravel for Methmann when, on January 4th, there were allegations made that she had stolen $50 cash from the Santa Barbara County Jail office where she worked.  At that time, an investigation into that allegation commenced and resulted in Methmann being placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of that inquiry.

According to SBSD Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover, while that investigation was under way, “a significant amount of jewelry valued at more than $10,000” was stolen from a Goleta area home, and detectives working that case found themselves facing evidence that pointed to Methmann.  With search warrant in hand, SBSD Detectives arrived at her Carpinteria apartment, found additional evidence of the residential burglary, took her into custody, and booked her into Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $50,000.

Sidestepping what could well have been a serious public relations challenge, Sheriff  Bill Brown addressed the press immediately, saying “We are extremely disturbed that someone from within the Sheriff’s Office would betray the public trust in this manner.”  After heaping praise on the rest of his staff, Brown went on to assure the public with “all necessary steps are being taken to ensure this type of crime is not repeated.”

Probably a good idea.
