LONG BEACH – Two years ago the City of Long Beach enacted Municipal Code 5.89.030 which banned the operation of marijuana dispensaries.  Two months after that, as they enforced this code, they issued a search warrant for Industry Green Collective located on the 2200 block of Lakewood Boulevard.

Police at the time seized 20 pounds of marijuana and a large amount of cash.  Their investigation led them to a home in thew 2400 block of Hannum Drive which yielded the discovery of three assault rifles and seven guns in all.

Meth addled couple arrested in traffic stop

LAKEPORT, LAKE COUNTY – Once again a traffic stop for defective equipment resulted in a couple arrested on drug charges, though it seems likely that just the act of driving under the influence would have given them away sooner or later.

On Thursday afternoon last week, on February 6, a burgundy sedan traveling down Main Street caught the eye of a Lake County Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force detective. According to Steve Brooks of the Sheriff’s Department, the detective saw that the left brake and turn signal lights were not functioning. He initiated a traffic stop at 15th Street and Main, and approached the passenger side of the car.

This burgundy car was parked in front of Jaco's residence in a Google Maps image from 2012, and may have been the one they were stopped in.

This burgundy car was parked in front of Jaco’s residence in a Google Maps image from 2012, and may have been the one they were stopped in.

The detective recognized the woman in the car as someone he had been in contact with before as a methamphetamine user and seller. She was identified as 28-year-old Ashley Nicole Saxon of nearby Clearlake. Her most recent arrest had been just in September, though at that time she listed her residence in Kelseyville, another town on Clear Lake between Lakeport and Clearlake. Central Sheriff’s Dispatch confirmed that she was on searchable probation, and Ms. Saxon said she knew.

Saxon showed signs that she was currently under the influence of what the detective described as a central nervous system stimulant. She said that she had indeed smoked some meth the day before, at 10 in the morning. The detective administered tests as well, which confirmed her intoxication. They conducted a brief search of her and placed her in the back of the patrol car under arrest of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Turning attention to the driver, the detective spoke with 34-year-old Michael Brandon Jaco of Kelseyville. Jaco said his license was suspended when asked for ID, and admitted he had a meth pipe with him in the car, tucked next to the driver’s seat. The pipe was collected as evidence, while the detective noted Jaco’s condition as matching that of his companion. The young man admitted he had also smoked some meth, but it was a full three days ago. He failed the field drug tests as well, and joined Ashley Saxon in being arrested for being under the influence, possessing paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license.

Ms. Saxon was, however, not sitting quietly in the back of the car. The detectives noted that she was moving around quite a bit while they dealt with Jaco. Their attention drawn, they saw that she had been trying to use her feet to push a plastic bag under the squad car’s security cage. She was taken out of the car, and the bag carefully removed. It contained white crystal meth, 35.9 grams or 1.27 ounces, which has a street value estimated to be $3600.00. She adamantly denied that it was hers, but the detectives deduced, based on her history, that she had had it concealed on her “in an area where a female deputy would be required to search” when she was booked at the jail.

Ashley Saxon's mugshot from her 2011 arrest.

Ashley Saxon’s mugshot from her 2011 arrest.

The detectives’ conclusions were probably based at least in part on a 2011 arrest, when Saxon and her then boyfriend Manuel Vincent Sotelo were arrested driving near Soda Bay on the shore of Clear Lake in Kelseyville. They were detained due to an active search warrant on Sotelo’s home based on his status as a parolee for narcotics. They were found driving and detained, when she apparently tried to hide a small bag of meth. A subsequent search also revealed a meth pipe hidden in her clothing, according to an earlier Sheriff’s press release. At that time, one ounce of meth and $2201.00 in cash were seized as drug trafficking profits.

The pair were booked at Lake County’s Hill Road Correctional Facility, and Saxon had charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, and concealing evidence added on to her list.

REDDING – A man who showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound got police searching for a black man assailant on Saturday night, February 1, but it turned out to be a false alarm.

At 8:18 in the evening, officials at the Shasta Regional Medical Center alerted police to a gunshot victim. According to a police press release, officers arrived at the hospital to interview the victim.

34-year-old Brent Thomas Posada told police that his wound was a result of an attack on him while he stood on the street. He said that while he was on the 100 block of Hilltop Drive, a black man approached and put a gun to his head. He told them he had pushed the assailant’s arm away, and in doing so, the gun went off, a bullet striking him in the abdomen. He said his attacker ran from the scene without a word, and did not take anything from him. Posada then reported to the hospital for treatment.

Posada claimed to have been attacked while standing on the street at this apartment complex.

Posada claimed to have been attacked while standing on the street at this apartment complex.

He described his assailant in great detail as a black man, mid to late 20′s, six feet tall and 185 pounds. He said he was wearing a black hoodie, jeans and black high top shoes with silver stripes.

Redding police went on alert for the gunman, canvassing the Hilltop area in search of the missing suspect, but turned up nothing. With no immediate results, the case was handed over to the Redding PD Investigations Division.

The investigators examined the evidence they had, including Posada’s clothing and photos of his injuries taken the night of the attack. Some of what the found conflicted with the account Posada had given. They contacted him yesterday to interview him further about the incident. Posada soon changed his story, admitting that there was no assailant on Hilltop, and that he had in fact shot himself at home, using a high powered air rifle.

He was not arrested, but the case was handed over to the District Attorney’s office to review and file charges for filing a false police report. No motive for his shooting himself and claiming to be a victim was given.

Burglar caught by homeowner and police

WINDSOR – SONOMA COUNTY – A burglar in a home in a well to do neighborhood was discovered by the homeowner, and then captured by police.

Detectives put together the scenario of the incident that occurred last weekend at a home in the hills in the northeast area of Windsor. According to Sergeant Michael Raasch of the Sonoma Sheriff’s office, late Friday night or the early hours of Saturday, the suspect broke a window of a locked garage on a house on Vinecrest Road. Robert Venoie Williams of Cloverdale, a small town about 25 miles north, gained entry to the garage. He went through a car inside belonging to the woman in the house, taking money and credit cards. He found items in the garage which were valuable antiques, and placed them near the back door, likely to pick up on his way out.

Having secured those items, he ventured into the house through the laundry room door. Either he believed the house was empty, or perhaps was not as quiet as he thought he was being, but the homeowner heard noises and got out of bed to investigate. He found the 31-year-old white man in his house and confronted him in an attempt to detain him, while his girlfriend called 911. Williams fought with the man, giving him a dislocated finger in the melee, and broke away, running out of the house and up the street. The man chased him, and Windsor police soon arrived. Williams had gotten into his car and was trying to drive off, but police stopped him.

Williams previously listed his residence at these apartments in Cloverdale, but he is now considered a transient.

Williams previously listed his residence at these apartments in Cloverdale, but he is now considered a transient.

Williams had the woman’s cash and credit cards on him, which he had stolen from the car. The antiques he had carefully set aside were left in the garage, of course.

He was taken to the County Jail and booked for first degree residential burglary, robbery, and possession of burglary tools. His bail, though initially set at $1,000,000, was determined to be $500,000, with enhancements set for his likely additional charges of assault and battery on the homeowner. Williams had an earlier run in with police on January 9, when he was arrested for drug charges and a failure to appear warrant. At the time he was listed as a resident of an apartment in Cloverdale, but his most recent arrest lists him as a transient.

Serious businessman doesn’t let kids get in the way…

CLEARLAKE OAKS- LAKE COUNTY – Robert Russell McDarment takes his home-based business seriously. Unfortunately for him, the Lake County Narcotics Task Force does as well.

McDarment’s business is apparently selling methamphetamine, but he goes beyond the typical seller. In an attempt to increase his profits, he has been adding methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) to the meth to extend the quantity and thereby increase his inventory. MSM is a dietary supplement, but when heated with a torch, it will crystalize and resemble meth. It can then be mixed in with the real thing.

A search warrant was served on the McDarment house in the Keys development of Clearlake Oaks.

A search warrant was served on the McDarment house in the Keys development of Clearlake Oaks.

He was also concerned with protecting his operation. Steve Brooks of the Lake Sheriff’s Office stated that McDarment had set up a large surveillance monitor in the master bedroom of his home, which is located in the Clearlake Keys property development, and backs up to one of the many canals that run through the neighborhood. The monitor shows views from four external cameras mounted around the house. This command center also featured a police scanner set to pick up the Lake Sheriff’s dispatches and communications. A floor mounted safe in the bedroom held a pair of revolvers with ammunition for security. It also held 24 grams of methamphetamine, 46 grams of marijuana, 2 hydrocodone pills, a glass meth pipe, and two digital scales (for grams and ounces.)

The 31-year-old McDarment, a convicted felon, seemed to know his business well. However, he did not escape notice of the Narcotics Detectives, who secured a search warrant for him, his house and vehicle on January 31. They served the warrant on Friday, February 7 at 9:45 pm. Perhaps he was not monitoring his video surveillance or his police scanner, because he was found at home and detained without incident. But there was also a house full of young kids – five children under the age of 10 were living there with McDarment and his wife in the small home. McDarment told the detectives that he had no drugs or weapons in the home, but when they searched the bedroom, they found a baggie of meth in a dresser drawer.

Detectives seized meth, weapons, and other tools of the drug trade in the search.

Detectives seized meth, weapons, and other tools of the drug trade in the search.

McDarment actually asked the detectives to test out the crystal substance, perhaps believing that his MSM cutting process would make it appear to be something other than meth, but the chemical test showed a positive.

After taking note of the surveillance system there in the bedroom, the detectives asked McDarment to open the safe. He said he not only didn’t know the combination, he had no idea what was inside. The detectives proceeded to pry it open with a crowbar, and McDarment relented and opened the door before they broke it, revealing the guns and drugs hidden inside. It was then McDarment explained his process for stretching out his product,  and explained that he was just selling the drugs to pay his bills.

He was arrested and booked at the Hill Road correctional facility on charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession while armed, being a felon in possession of firearms and ammo, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. The detectives also requested the District Attorney to review the case for the addition of child endangerment, since some of the meth was in easy reach of his kids. His wife Jacqui was not mentioned in the complaint and was presumably left to care for the children at the house.

Woman robber charges from store into the arms of police

A robbery attempt in Greenbrae thwarted by Central Marin Police Authority officers led to the arrest of two East Bay residents early Monday afternoon on a raft of charges, including drug possession and conspiracy.

A CMPA press release reports that witnesses called in a robbery in progress at the Mollie Stone’s location at 270 Bon Air Center Road in Greenbrae at 1:03 p.m. Officers sped to the scene and quickly located a silver 2007 Mercury Milan with a male driver parked in the red zone of the grocery store’s parking lot, near the exit.

Less than a minute after their arrival, officers spotted a woman charging out of those exit doors, clutching goods she had stolen from the store, toward the Milan. Several employees were in pursuit, and officers were able to stop the woman before she reached the waiting getaway vehicle.

CMPA officers searched both suspects. The woman, identified in the Marin Independent Journal as Hercules resident Julien Lagman, 38, had almost made off with more than $300 of goods from Mollie Stone’s. She was also carrying a small amount of methamphetamine. The man, who the Marin Independent Journal identifies as Pinole resident Phongsy Sayavong, 38, had marijuana on his person. Officers found more than 200 grams of methamphetamine, along with paraphernalia indicating that Lagman and Sayavong planned to sell the illicit substance, inside the vehicle. The pair was also transporting packages apparently stolen from San Rafael residents and materials suggesting that they had attempted to commit identity theft.

Lagman and Sayavong were moved to Marin County Jail and booked on possession of methamphetamine for sale, transport/sale of methamphetamine, possession of stolen property, and conspiracy. In addition, Lagman was charged with possession of methamphetamine, identity theft, and false identification to a police officer, while Sayavong was charged with possession of tear gas by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana.

CMPA Corporal Michael Mejia confirmed that Lagman and Sayavong’s case was submitted to the district attorney’s office on Tuesday morning, “and investigations is conducting follow-ups according to what was found in the car,” though he was unable to give further information about the ongoing investigation.

Police had information that Sanders would be in this apartment building.

Police had information that Sanders would be in this apartment building.

Just about as soon as Tuesday’s list of their most wanted suspects was released, which includes the last known photographs or mugshots, police received a tip that 29-year-old Jacarri Jabrahn Sanders was staying with his brother, 25-year-old Kemayu Kadeem Sanders at an apartment on 10th Street. That morning, just after 11 am according to a police press release, investigators arrived at the apartment with the hopes of finding Jacarri.

A knock on the door met with no response from inside, but they did not just walk away. A consultation with dispatch told them that information had been received confirming that the Sanders brothers should be inside with several other people. The call may in fact have come from someone inside, but police have not confirmed the source of their information. Reports say, however, that while they waited for a response, it was Kemayu who prevented others from answering the door.

After 20 minutes of patiently waiting, the officers forced entry. Five people were in the residence, and some put up a fight. Michele Ann Blood, 42 of Redding and on probation, joined with Jacarri and Kemayu in resisting or obstructing officers. The three were arrested on that charge, and Kemayu for false imprisonment for holding the others inside. Jacarri additionally faces his burglary warrant. The remaining two in the home were released at the scene.

According to the Santa Rosa police, a witness said that one of the gangsters involved was shot, and then carried off by his companions. No victims or suspects could be found in the area, however.

Less than two hours later, a call came from an official at the Sonoma County Hospital to report a 17-year-old boy with gunshot wounds. They said the young man had been dumped in the Emergency room and abandoned. He was rushed into surgery in critical condition.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Milton and spoke to witnesses.

Investigators formulated a theory regarding the incident. They state Law and Danner allegedly had a fight two weeks prior to the incident. During the fight, Law allegedly knocked out one of Danner’s teeth.

On the day of the incident, investigators say Danner and his friend, Robert Little, claimed to be burning trash in the backyard. Little also lives at the residence.

It is alleged Law became angry at Danner claiming Danner was reckless burning candles in his room at night.

Christine Ruda, the victim’s girlfriend and mother to the suspect, and her boyfriend Law were lying in bed when Law noticed the candles burning unattended in Danner’s room.

Investigators believe the candles were being burned due to the house having no electricity.

Investigators state Ruda and Law began arguing, at which time Danner came armed with a baseball hat in hand and told them to stop arguing.

Danner and Law began arguing and at some point, according to investigators, Danner went and to a safe to get two handguns which he brandished to scare Law..

Danner claimed to have shot Law when Law did not stop coming towrd him. Danner claimed he was scared and the act was self-defense.

After the shooting, in which Ruda was shot in the arm, Danner and Little took her to the hospital where investigators became involved.

Once deputies arrived on the scene, they found Law’s deceased body naked and unarmed. There were several gunshots to his head and body.

Danner was arrested and booked at SLO County Jail for one count of murder.
