SAN BERNARDINO – Fourteen people were arrested and law enforcement agencies seized over 5,500 marijuana plants over a two-day raid last week that took place over a wide area of San Bernardino County. Search warrants were served to unincorporated areas throughout the county, including Helendale, Landers, Joshua Tree and Bloomington. Each of the locations were found to have large scale outdoor marijuana cultivations.

Those arrested were from all across California, including two from Mexico. On Monday, the county sheriff’s identified the suspects taken in the raids. Police arrested Carlos Gonzalez, 41, of Los Angeles; Angie Colindrez, 19, of L.A.; Manuel Perez, 48, of L.QA., and Andres Marques, 39, of L.A.; Jose Rascon, 60, of Bloomington, Thoneko Sounannavong, 55, of Fresno, Alex Apyayboun, 46, of Sacramento; Xayadeth Kayavong, 38, of Fresno; Athith Kayavong, 35, of Fresno; Phouthone Khaithianthong, 52, of Porterville; Lee Callan, 58, of Landers; Aquilino Villasenor, 50, of Mexico; Roberto Zavalla, 44, of Bakersfield; and Manuel Madrigal-Castillo, 21, of Mexico.

The investigation revealed that marijuana plants were growing in unsecured fenced-in areas, referred to as Plywood Grows. A total of 5,557 marijuana plants were seized, along with 171.5 pounds of processed marijuana, four firearms, including two sawed off shot guns, one in which the serial number had been removed. They also seized a large quantity of Hydrocodone pills. They were all deemed illegal grows, according to law enforcement officials, who also reported that many of the suspects were using fictitious medical marijuana recommendations in an effort to deceive investigators into believing operations were legitimate.

San Bernardino County’s ordinance, which prohibits outdoor marijuana cultivations, highlighted the illegal activity that was taking place. On Aug. 20, Gonzalez, Colindrez, Perez and Marquez were arrested at the 67000 block of Daisy Ln. and Joshua Tree where 779 marijuana plants and two pounds of processed marijuana were seized. That same day on the 18000 block of 8th St. in Bloomington, 40 marijuana plants were seized and Rascon was arrested. Investigators determined that the Daisy Ln. and 8th St. locations were related to each other.

In Landers, Sounannavong was arrested on the 500 block of Lambert Rd. where 95 marijuana plants were seized. That was just one of five separate locations in Landers that was raided. Aphayboun was arrested on the 100 block of Bowman Trail with 403 marijuana plants seized. The Kayavong’s were arrested on the 1000 block of Yucca Mesa Rd., where 1,579 marijuana plants were seized. On the 59000 block of Reche Rd., 566 marijuana plants were seized and Khaithianthong was arrested.

Callan was arrested on the 5700 block of Linn Rd., said investigators, taking 30 marijuana plants and 34 pounds of processed marijuana and 73 Hydrocodone pills. On Aug. 21, on an undeveloped property parcel on Wild Rd. in Helendale, 761 marijuana plants, 15.5 pounds of processed marijuana, one 45-caliber handgun and a sawed off shotgun with the serial number removed were seized by law enforcement. Villasenior, Zavala and Madrigual-Castillo were taken into custody.

The final location, at the 29000 block of Wild Rd. in Helendale, no suspects were arrested but 1,304 marijuana plants were seized, as well as 120 pounds of processed marijuana and a sawed off shotgun.

Armed drug dealer and customer nabbed in Sonoma park

Just a few hours before a large 6.0 earthquake rocked the early morning hours Sunday in Napa and nearby Sonoma Counties, it was business as usual for law enforcement. A Deputy from the Sonoma Sheriff’s department was on patrol at Larson Park in north Sonoma. The park, located near Boyes Hot Springs and Fetters Hot Springs-Agua Caliente, has been the scene of multiple gang related disturbances and arrests over the past few weeks. According to the Sheriff’s Office, there has been a shooting, narcotics arrests, and gang vandalism recently. It is also adjacent to Flowery Elementary Shool.

At 7 pm Saturday, the deputy, patrolling as part of an increased presence in the area, noticed a car at the far end of the parking lot of the park, with a man leaning in through the window, apparently speaking with someone inside. He approached with his patrol car, getting just close enough to see the expired registration on the vehicle.

The deputy parked his cruiser and approached the car, seeing there was another man in the driver’s seat. He spoke to both men. The one on the outside said he had come to the park for a rest, and saw his friend there in the car and started chatting with him. However, as he was speaking, the driver of the car seemed to be trying to hide something in his hand, and both men acted suspiciously. The deputy decided to ask for their identifications, and as the outside man produced his, he clumsily tried to hide a “tiny white bundle” in his fingers. The deputy checked his ID; he was identified as Pedro Gonzalez Pulido, 41 of Sonoma. He showed signs of being under the influence of a narcotic stimulant.

Turning his attention to the driver, the deputy checked his ID, and noticed a bag typical of methamphetamine packaging, along with cash next to the driver’s seat. He was identified as Humberto Gutierrez Lopez, 41 of nearby Boyes Hot Springs. As Lopez exited the car, another tiny white baggie dropped out, filled with a “gritty” subsstance.

With enough probable cause to indicate a narcotics transaction had taken place, the deputy detained both men and initiated a search of the car. He found additional baggies of drugs, a digital scale, and two active cell phones. There was also a loaded 9mm pistol hidden under the driver’s seat. Pulido was tested for being under the influence of a controlled substance, and was arrested for loitering in a public place and beig under the influence. Lopez was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sale, and while armed, and carrying a loaded firearm.

Both were booked at the Sonoma County Jail. Lopez’s three felonies resulted in bail set at $35,000. He was scheduled to be arraigned today. Pulido’s crimes are listed misdemeanors – he posted $5,000 bail and is due in court Monday, September 15.

Paso Robles police are searching for a suspect who allegedly snatched a puppy from a local pet store on Sunday afternoon.

According to PRPD, they received a call around 4:35 p.m. on Sunday regarding the theft of a puppy from a local pet store called The Pet Department on the 700 block of 6th Street. When officers arrived, they determined a white adult female suspect entered the business and stole an eleven-week-old, tan-and-white English bulldog puppy, valued by the store at $900.00.

Officers used the store’s video surveillance system to view the suspect. She was seen on video taking the dog and concealing it under her dress. According to police, the suspect, Allison Rae Trammel, 24, of rural North San Luis Obispo County, was able to walk out of the store unnoticed by employees or customers. Store employees discovered the theft a few hours later and called police immediately.

The puppy was recovered through the investigation, and was located at approximately 3:50 p.m. on Monday at a house on the 500 block of Palm Court in Paso Robles (which is not Trammel’s listed home residence.)

Police say the dog was found to be in good health and was returned to the pet store. According to PRPD, Trammel is known to frequent the cities of Atascadero and Paso Robles, along with the unincorporated areas of northern SLO County. Police say Trammel, who was just recently released from jail for allegedly possessing narcotics for sale, is possibly driving a red or maroon-colored KIA Optima four-door car.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 237-6464.

VICTORVILLE – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two teenagers last week who are believed to be responsible for a string of commercial burglaries that took place for nearly a month.

Marquino Estrada, 18, of nearby Adelanto, along with a 17-year-old male accomplice, are the suspects arrested. They are not only accused of the burglaries, but for smashing windows and prying open doors to gain access into closed businesses.

Estrada is expected to appear in court this week, officials said. In addition, say reports, they stole cash registers and merchandise. A total of six businesses were identified in the crimes, according to reports.
An extensive joint investigation between both the Victorville and Hesperia Sheriff’s stations ultimately identified Estrada and the 17-year-old juvenile as the parties responsible.

Among the targeted businesses include Burger King, El Pollo Loco, Just Grill It and one other restaurant, the Golden Gate, along with Nancy’s Hair Inn. Each business was located either on the 14000 block of Seventh St. in Victorville or the 15000 block of Bear Valley Rd. in Hesperia.

Sheriff’s investigators said the crimes occurred between July 26 and Aug. 21. Before Aug. 2, law enforcement agencies were receiving multiple complaints for burglaries that had been committed in both Victorville and neighboring Hesperia. Thousands of dollars in losses were caused to loss of property and property damages to the various business owners.

Estrada, who is being held on $175,000 bail for theft related charges, was being held at the High Desert Detention Center. The juvenile was being held at a juvenile detention center.

Suspect Linked to Shooting Spree in LA County

$

In the past few days, there has been a “shooting spree” in West Hollywood and San Fernando. Los Angeles Police detectives are convinced that only one suspect is responsible for the shootings.

According to a police report, on Friday, August 22 around 11 p.m. in West Hollywood, detectives were called to a scene where people heard “shots fired” at the intersection of Gardner Street and Santa Monica Boulevard.

While the victims were driving, they noticed that there was a gold colored Chevrolet SUV pulled up next to them on the passenger side. They said there was only one Hispanic male in the car, and he kept looking at the them. Soon after, they lost sight of the SUV, until they realized that it was trailing right behind them with the headlights off. Once again, the SUV pulled up next to the victims’ car. This time, however, the man in the SUV pulled out a shotgun and fired three rounds. The car was totaled from the shooting, but none of the victims were harmed. The suspect fled from the scene.

That was only the beginning of the suspect’s shooting rampage. On Sunday, August 24, the same suspect is believed to have resumed in the early morning, as multiple victims were shot and three were killed within an hour.

The first shooting occurred around 6 a.m. According to KTLA5 News, a family of five was headed to church, when they were shot in their SUV. One of the female victims, 23, was shot and killed at the scene. Two other victims, who are believed to be the parents, are in critical condition. The other two victims, who were younger kids, remained unharmed. “I heard shots…and I looked out the window, and then I saw a man right there that was bleeding. The SUV went right by and they shot them. So they took her out, poor thing…she was dead,” said a witness, Pauline Gaitain, who lives in the area.

Then, about 45 minutes later, another shooting occurred at the Sylmar Recreational Center in the 13000 block of Borden Avenue. The victim was a 29-year-old Hispanic male who was collecting bottles and cans when he was shot and killed at the scene. Another 10 minutes later, a 50-year-old Hispanic woman, was shot and killed in the 12900 block of Fillmore Street. Detectives stated that all of the shootings involved a suspect with a shotgun in a gold colored SUV.

Later that night, at around 8:30 p.m., Los Angeles Police detectives found a “person of interest” and arrested Alexander Hernandez, 34, at his home in Sylmar, just north of West Hollywood and San Fernando. After the arrest, detectives searched his house, and ended up recovering a shotgun. The arrest made, however, was not for the shooting spree.

Ironically enough, on Saturday, the day prior to the shooting spree, detectives were called to a scene where two dogs had been shot and killed at a residence in the San Fernando Valley. Investigators noticed that the description of the SUV from the shooting spree was similar to the SUV involved with the shooting of the two dogs.

According to the LA Times, “The pet owners told police the man identified himself only by first name, Alex, said the sources, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss details of the investigation.” On Sunday morning, detectives used a surveillance camera on Hernandez’s house to look for clues. As it turns out, they were able to determine that his SUV had duct tape around a side mirror. That gave an indication that the mirror was damaged, potentially by gunfire.

There seems to be direct and indirect evidence that the suspect, Hernandez, was the only one involved in the shooting sprees and the killings of the two dogs. Hernandez has not been charged in the shooting spree, but the evidence definitely points towards him.

Hernandez also has a history of getting in trouble with the law, as he has been involved in three other incidents. In 2004, he was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and an unregistered .22-caliber handgun. Two years later, he pleaded no contest for possession of meth and a firearm, this time a shotgun. Then recently, on June 16, Hernandez was arrested for assault. However, the charge was dropped, as there were no independent witnesses.

Hernandez is currently being held on a $1 million bail.

San Mateo Police Track Down, Apprehend Suspect in Attempted Murder

SAN MATEO–This past Sunday was not a day of rest for at least one San Mateo community. In the early morning hours of August 24, residents in a unit block of South Grant Street received telephone notifications from the San Mateo Police Department informing them that an armed suspect wanted on suspicion of attempted murder may be hiding out in their neighborhood.

According to a police press release, earlier, at around 3:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots being fired in the vicinity. Arriving at the scene, they came upon a 22-year-old male San Mateo resident lying in the street with life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper body. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is reported to be in critical but stable condition.

Believing the suspect might still be in the area, officers set up a perimeter and searched neighboring backyards. When their search came up empty, police notified the community. Meanwhile, according to Sgt. Rick Decker of the San Mateo Police Department, an investigation by detectives linked the suspect to a relative’s residence on North Claremont Street in San Mateo. Taking all precautions with an armed and dangerous criminal on the loose, they called in the North County Regional SWAT Team.

Enoc Carlos Gonzalez – “C-Los Gonzalez” – Facebook

Around 2:15 p.m., the SWAT Team served a search warrant on the residence, where they found the suspect, Enoc Carlos Gonzalez, 18, a resident of East Palo Alto. Gonzalez was taken into custody without incident and booked into the San Mateo County Jail.

“This was a violent and brazen act that occurred outdoors and in public, and our department committed all necessary resources to identifying and subsequently locating this suspect before he could further threaten our community,” said Sgt. Decker.

Police are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting. “At this time, detectives are still exploring a couple different motives for the crime, one of which being if it relates to gang activity,” according to Sgt. Decker. “Working with our Crime Reduction Unit (Gang Intelligence), their narrowing down if that in fact was the primary motive for the shooting.”

What a sense of relief residents must have felt when they received a follow-up notification letting them know the police operation was complete and the suspect had been apprehended and taken safely into custody. Perhaps they were able to snatch a few hours of rest before Sunday came to a close.

34-year-old Clarence Dwayne Ardds was charged on March 26, 2014 for PC 459-460 (a) First Degree Burglary that occurred in Milpitas in 2011.

On March 28, 2011, the Milpitas Police Officers responded to a call reporting a break in and home burglary at 849 Berryessa Street in Milpitas. When officers questioned the homeowners, they said they had noticed that the front door to the home was open. When they entered the home, they saw that it had been ransacked. Drawers, clothing and electronics were thrown throughout the rooms, and one of the bedroom windows smashed. A screw driver was found in the back bedroom.

break in

During a preliminary investigation it was believed that Ardds used the screwdriver to break the back bedroom window in order to enter the home. The victim reported seeing a black male in his 30’s casing the area some time before the break in occurred. A victim also stated that they had seen the suspect at their neighbor’s home before the break-in.

It was determined that once inside, Ardds ransacked the home to find jewelry, laptop computers, a television, and a safe. Because the suspect was unable to open the safe it was left on the sidewalk near the residence. The T.V. was also reported to be in the bushes near the residence by a neighbor. It had blood on the front screen, and was collected for DNA evidence. Digital images, and fingerprints of the suspect were also taken and booked into evidence.

On Aug 5, 2011 the Santa Clara Crime Lab had matched the DNA profile to Clarence Ardds and determined that his girlfriend lived near the residence at the time of the burglary, according to police records. The report concluded that Milpitas officers had been called to intervene in an argument between Ardds and his girlfriend sometime before the incident. The crime lab also determined that Ardds was currently in custody at Folsom State Prison.

Clarence Ardds in a Facebook image, dated 2006

Milpitas investigators, knowing that Ardds was expected to be released from prison, made contact with him on March 18, 2014. When asked about the break-in, Ardds said, “My next door neighbor had been robbed of his T.V. and some other stuff”. Ardds told the investigator that the T.V. was next to the bushes near his girlfriend’s home when they were walking to the store. Ardds said, “I went over there to grab it and she said, ‘No don’t grab it’”. That is when Ardds said he cut his hand on the cracked screen of the T.V., and that’s why they just left it. Ardds told investigators that his girlfriend called the neighbors to report seeing a T.V. in front of her home in the bushes. Ardds said that he and his girlfriend “went about their business and left it there”.

When asked how he knew about the burglary, he said that he saw the police and talked to a neighbor during the initial investigation by Milpitas police. But Ardds denied breaking into the home.

Ardds has a previous conviction under PC 211, Armed Robbery. He has also been charged and convicted of PC 29800, Possession of a Firearm out of Alameda County.

The next plea hearing has been scheduled for September 30, 2014 at 1:30 in Dept 35 at the San Jose Hall of Justice.

SALINAS—Officers with the Salinas Police Department arrest two juveniles after they were caught drunk at a local park with evidence from a residential burglary.

On Friday August 22, at 11:40 pm, officers were dispatched to a home on the 1100 block of Cheshire Way to take a report of a burglary. A neighbor witnessed what happened, but could not provide a very descriptive look of the suspect.

Later that night, at about 1:40 a.m., Salinas Police were summoned to the Safeway Store on Constitution Boulevard on a report that a group of juveniles had tried to steal some alcohol. The store is in walking distance of the Cheshire Way home. A security officer managed to detain one suspect, but he was able to break away and escape before police arrived.

After their burglary, the teens went to Safeway to steal liquor, and were almost caught there.

After their burglary, the teens went to Safeway to steal liquor, and were almost caught there.

Apparently, the juveniles did manage to get some alcohol, because at about 7:15 Saturday morning, police received a call that there was an intoxicated juvenile causing a disturbance at a “pocket park” near the corner of Bradbury Street and Nantucket Boulevard. This location is also in walking distance of both the Safeway and burgled home.

As officers arrived, several subjects took the opportunity to run. A lengthy search was conducted and police captured a 15-year-old male and a 14-year-old male, but the other three suspects managed to avoid capture.

“The stolen property from the burglary on Cheshire Way was recovered under a play structure at the park.” Salinas Police Commander Sheldon Bryan wrote,  “One the suspects in custody admitted to the burglary and the attempted theft from Safeway.”

The two suspects were transported and booked into the Monterey County Juvenile Hall on the burglary charges. The Salinas Police are still investigating this incident and are working on the identities of the other suspects.

Back on July 31, after a male with a chest wound was admitted to Vaca Valley Hospital Emergency Room, hospital staff notified Vacaville Police.

The stabbing occurred in this neighborhood on Markham Avenue.

The stabbing occurred in this neighborhood on Markham Avenue.

The victim, Aurelio Pena-Lemus, 22 of Vacaville, remained unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the hospital after several minutes. Responding to the hospital, Vacaville Police learned where Pena-Lemus had been wounded. Vacaville Police Department Investigative Services Detectives pursued an investigation into Pena-Lemus’s death with interviews and processing massive amounts of evidence at the crime scene. It was reported that Pena-Lemus was stabbed in the area on Markham Avenue north of Vineyard Valley Road.

During their three week investigation, the Vacaville P.D. detectives successfully identified Samuel Nodine as a suspect in the alleged murder, and secured a warrant for his arrest. Then, on August 27, they received a tip that Nodine was seen driving a blue Audi automobile on the streets of Vacaville. Detectives and patrol officers initiated a thorough search for this vehicle. Soon a dark blue Audi A4 was spotted near the corner of Mason and Depot Streets. It had been reported stolen out of Napa on August 23.

Patrol officers attempted a traffic stop of the vehicle. Instead it sped onto westbound I-80. The officers gave chase at speeds soon exceeding 90 mph. However, the officers lost sight of the Audi A4 near Waterman Boulevard in Fairfield.

Minutes later, the California Highway Patrol was informed a single car had crashed near the Travis Boulevard off-ramp. CHP responding officers found the Audi A4 lying on its side. The driver fled on foot, and CHP and Fairfield officers ran after him. The driver was soon cornered and arrested behind the Motel 6 on Holiday Lane in Fairfield. He was then positively identified as Samuel Nodine and was taken into custody on the warrant for Pena-Lemus’s murder.

The Roseville Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect reportedly believed to be involved in a string of robberies in a residential neighborhood, according to an official press release.

According to Roseville PD, at 7:22 am this morning, Thursday, August 28, officers responded to Cambridge Court in the Cirby Ranch neighborhood to a resident’s report of a suspicious man in a white van, reportedly similar to a Chevy Astro. The man got out of the van and was peering into the windows of cars parked in the court. Officers arrived at the scene, but were unable to locate the suspect. However, Roseville PD reportedly received reports of five vehicles being broken into or items taken from unlocked cars on Pine Valley Circle and Daisy Court, all in the same neighborhood.

Surveillance video of the suspect

In Yolo County Superior Court on August 27, nine women and 3 men became sworn jurors in one of the highest profile cases to be tried in the county in many years. Daniel Marsh, 17, a resident of Davis, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with enhancements for “lying in wait” and “torture” for stabbing to death prominent Davis couple Oliver “Chip” Northup and Claudia Maupin.

Hundreds of potential jurors had been summoned to court to undergo the selection process in the extensively publicized case. Attorneys will make their opening statements to be followed by testimony on Tuesday in Judge David Reed’s courtroom in Woodland.

“Chip,” 87, was an attorney active for many years in Yolo County and served as guitar player and vocalist for a local folk band, the Putah Creek Crawdads. His wife Claudia was an avid churchgoer and supporter of local theatre. Both were found dead in their South Davis condominium, stabbed dozens of times, by a Davis police officer performing a welfare check on April 14, 2013.

Soon after his arrest on June 2, 2013, Daniel Marsh confessed, telling Davis P.D. detectives that he had felt strong urges to kill since he was ten years of age. Ironically, four years ago, Marsh had been lauded as a hero for saving his father’s life.

The trial has been delayed many times. In June, 2014, Marsh changed his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity. The plea change came after authorities disclosed that Marsh had had been hospitalized for clinical depression and severe anxiety in the months leading up to the murders. Since June, Marsh has undergone several psychiatric evaluations.

Potential jurors in the case had to complete a 14 page questionnaire that asked if they’d encountered sufferers from mental illness, what they knew about psychiatric drugs and what their attitude was concerning the insanity defense.
