SANTA CRUZ — Authorities with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department have arrested 47-year-old La Selva Beach resident Ruben Ceballos Cobarruvias after an investigation led them to believe he’d come into illegal contact with two minors over ten years ago.
On Tuesday, Sept 3, the investigation led Santa Cruz County Detectives to VHM Christian School on the 400 block of Capitola Road Extension in Santa Cruz. Once there, they interviewed Cobarruvias on allegations of lewd conduct with children.
At the end of the interview, they arrested Cobarruvias on the charge of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor during his employment with the school.
“We received a complaint from two former students about the allegation,” Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Kennedy said. “We are still searching for other victims in the Santa Cruz County Area.”
Cobarruvias, who is affectionally known as “Mr. C” on the school’s website, has been employed at the school since 2001. He has worked as the school’s facilities maintenance worker and bus driver. He has since been placed on administrative leave.
Detectives believe that there are additional victims in the area based on the contact the Cobarruvias had with the children. Cobarruvias was transported and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail with bail set at $50,000.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating this incident and is asking that anyone with information or if you were a victim of Cobarruvias to please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 1-831-454-2311.
