MARICOPA — Deputies from Taft have arrested a 19-year-old Maricopa man suspected of hitting another man with a shovel.
Jessy James Miller was booked into the Kern County Jail for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a weapon after allegedly having a violent exchange with 21-year-old Christopher Taylor, also a resident of Maricopa.
The incident occurred at about 10:20 p.m, on Aug. 29, when Kern County Sheriff’s deputies from the Taft Substation were sent to 515 S. Kern St. in Maricopa on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in progress.
When deputies arrived, they were told that Miller and Taylor were involved in a fight, which eventually escalated when Miller picked up a shovel and hit Taylor on the back with it. Witnesses said Taylor then ran and Miller threw the shovel him.
Miller then got in a vehicle and followed Taylor as he ran to a nearby residence.
Deputies said they located Miller in the same vehicle a few minutes later in Taft.
Taylor suffered non life threatening injuries from the assault.
