BAKERSFIELD — Authorities said they have arrested the wife of a Bakersfield man that was shot and left to die in a field earlier this week.

During their investigation into the death of 45-year-old Todd Chance, Kern County Sheriff’s Office detectives aid they developed enough probable cause to arrest 46- year-old Leslie Jenea Chance, for his death.
Chance, a principal at Fairview Elementary School in Bakersfield, was booked at the Kern County Jail on one charge of first degree murder. No bail has been set and is she scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, an almond field worker found Chance’s lifeless body lying on the dirt extension of Noriega Road East of Enos Lane just south of the Rio Bravo-Greeley Unified School District offices at about 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 25.
Deputies and medical aid arrived a short time later where they discovered Chance has died of multiple gunshot wounds.
During their investigation detectives said discovered that the victim’s black 2011 Ford Mustang was missing.
A short time later the vehicle was found abandoned near the intersection of Tigerflower Drive and Wheatland Avenue in Bakersfield.
Kern County Sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruitt said he could not release details, but did say detectives have interviewed Leslie Chance several times but he could not release what she told them.
