VISALIA – An off-duty Visalia police officer was placed under arrest for driving under the influence after she crashed her car into a parked vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol responded to a crash at Borderlinks Drive early in the morning after being asked by the Visalia Police Department to investigate a possibly involved DUI.
Upon arrival, CHP officers found 32-year-old Erica Martinez at the scene. Martinez, a Visalia patrol officer, had crashed her BMW into a parked Jeep. She was arrested and taken to the station, where she failed a blood-alcohol test. She was then cited and released, according to the CHP.
No one, including Martinez, was hurt in the accident. Martinez was not in uniform or in a patrol car at the time of the accident. Her license was confiscated. She was also cited with a promise to appear in court for Sept. 16.
Martinez has been an officer with the Visalia Police Department for seven years. The department is treating the incident as a personnel matter.
