Novato police arrested 20-year-old city resident Eduardo Alvarez Friday afternoon after he assaulted two officers who responded to a vandalism call, sending one of the men to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
Police received a call at 1:04 p.m. on Friday from a local business owner, who reported that a man later identified as Alvarez had thrown a rock at him and shattered one of the front windows of his business, the Marin County Arms gun shop, which is located at the Del Prado Shopping Center on Alameda Del Prado in Novato. The Marin Independent Journal reported that Alvarez then entered the store and attempted to throw the rock at the owner, but it fell to the floor instead.
When police arrived on the scene, Alvarez refused to cooperate with officers and fled on foot. The officers pursued Alvarez, who continued to evade arrest and resisted when the officers caught up with him. According to the Novato Police Department press release, Alvarez got into an altercation with, and injured two of the officers. One of these men went to a hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries, while the other injured officer required no medical treatment at the time.
Alvarez also went to the hospital as a result of his injuries. After receiving treatment, he was arrested and sent to Marin County Jail. Officers arrested Alvarez on charges of assault, battery against a peace officer, vandalism and resisting arrest.
