Victims were riding their bikes when they were attacked
SALINAS—The Salinas Police have arrested 18-year old Salinas resident Christian Luna and two other juveniles on assault and robbery charges last Saturday night.
On Saturday at 9:41 p.m., four juveniles ranging from ages 13-to-16 years of age were riding their bikes on 1st Avenue and Alma Avenue in East Salinas when a vehicle drove passed and stopped nearby.
Luna and four other juveniles ranging from ages 16 to 17 years old occupied the vehicle. When the vehicle came to a stop Luna and two other juveniles got out of the vehicle. As the juveniles rode passed Luna punched one of juveniles and took his bike.
The other two juveniles suspects assaulted the other victims and took their bikes as well. The vehicle that the suspects were riding in drove a few blocks away and stopped and waited them.
The suspects reached the car, loaded the bikes and fled the scene. The victims called the police and were able to give them a description of the vehicle. The Salinas Police were able to broadcast a BOL (Be on the lookout) of the vehicle.
Shortly after the BOL went out, an officer with the Salinas Police Department located the vehicle that still had the bikes inside. It was spotted about a mile and half away at the intersection of E. Market and Pearl Street. All occupants of the vehicle were identified as the suspects in this case.
“It is not sure whether the suspects knew the victims in this incident,” Salinas Police Commander Henry Gomez stated. “ This incident is been investigated as gang related at this time.”
All three were taken into custody, Luna was transported to Monterey County Jail and booked on assault and robbery changes. The other two juveniles were booked into Monterey County Juvenile Hall on the same charges.
