WOODLAND – During a high-speed chase on the evening of August 18, the driver of a 2002 BMW 330CI refused to acknowledge a pursuing CHP officer or, eventually, to get out of his car, which led to his arrest.
Alejandro S. Leon, 20, of Woodland was first observed at about 9:35pm by a CHP officer as he sped along Main Street in East Woodland near the Highway 113 onramp.
The CHP officer attempted to pull alongside Leon at the intersection of Pioneer and Main Street. At that point unidentified, Leon hauled. Turning up the I-5 southbound onramp he hit speeds upwards of 100 mph. According to a CHP spokesman, Leon proceeded to briefly tailgate several cars while dangerously switching lanes before swerving to the right of a pickup truck onto the shoulder.
Leon rocketed onto the County Road 102 offramp. The CHP officer switched on lights and sirens. Leon, apparently unnerved, almost lost control of the vehicle on the curve. He screeched and swerved to a stop under the red light at the intersection of the offramp and Road 102.
As the CHP officer approached the BMW, Leon exited the vehicle. “He was yelling something,” said a CHP Woodland office spokesman, “but the officer couldn’t tell what it was about.” The officer ordered Leon to get on his knees while he affixed handcuffs. Leon refused and “aggressively approached the officer.” It was necessary “for the officer to physically take control of Leon.”
Leon was charged with speeding, resisting arrest and quietly booked into the Yolo County Jail.
