BAKERSFIELD — A man sought by police for robbing a woman at gunpoint inside the Herbalife Store, located at 1215 Columbus Street last Thursday, has been arrested.
The Bakersfield Police Department said an investigation into a robbery, which occurred on Aug. 15, at approximately 12:19 p.m. led them to the suspect, Matthew Najera of Bakersfield.
Najera, was able to flee the scene foot before officers arrived, taking the victim’s purse and other items of value.
Officers said when the located Najera, he violently resisted arrest, injuring an officer before once again eluding officers and discarding a firearm, believed to have been used in the robbery.
Later, officers were able to relocate and finally arrest Najera, who was booked into the Kern County Jail for robbery, false imprisonment, resisting arrest, felony assault on an officer, felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition and possession of stolen property.
No bail has been set.
A police spokesperson said offices were able to recover both the discarded firearm and the victim’s stolen property.
