SUNNYVALE, Calif. – A wanted suspect in connection with a missing persons case reported earlier this year was shot and killed while brandishing a gun at officers when they tried to execute an Ramy warrant for his arrest. According to Sunnyvale Police Capt. Plecque, “The person ignored orders, and displayed a weapon”. Police are saying that the weapon was a long rifle type weapon.
“In May 2013, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a missing person named Molly Franquemont, who reportedly had been residing at 498 N. Fair Oaks Ave,” Sunnyvale Police Capt. Plecque said. In a follow up investigation in to the missing person’s case, evidence at the scene lead investigators to believe that Franquemont may have been murdered by the suspect.
A Ramey arrest warrant was then issued for the arrest of the suspect 53-year-old Glen Griggs on June 5, 2014. Griggs has been staying in the same residence as Franquemont. Evidence discovered by investigators made them believe that Griggs was involved in her disappearance reported in May of 2013.
When officers tried to serve the arrest warrant, Griggs began to barricade himself in one of the rooms. In a verbal confrontation with officers he told them that he had a gun. After Griggs threatend police, officers moved out to the front of the residence while waiting for him to comply with requests to exit the home. After several minutes Griggs was spotted trying to flee from the rear of the residence.
“When Griggs began to emerge from the back of the residence, officers observed him with a long gun in his hands”. Griggs refused commands by officers to drop the weapon. That is when officers fearing for their safety opened fire. “Officers and paramedics at the scene provided immediate medical attention to Griggs before he was transported to Valley Medical Center (VMC),” Sunnyvale Police Capt. Plecque said.
The Sunnyvale DPS Investigation Unit is continuing their criminal investigation into the missing person’s case as a homicide.
