The Sacramento Police Department (SPD) recently made two arrests in connection to the reselling of stolen catalytic converters, according to an official press release.
Erik Brown, 53, and William Lorch, 50, were reportedly arrested on Thursday, September 26, and charged with attempting to buy/receive stolen property.
On Thursday, September 26, 2013, SPD officers executed a search warrant at a Sacramento business stemming from a year-long metal theft investigation. In 2012, the Sacramento Police Metal Theft Task Force had begun an investigation into Firehouse Mufflers at 3190 Marysville Boulevard, as investigators had reportedly received information the business was illegally purchasing catalytic converters.
Beginning in April 2013, multiple undercover operations were reportedly performed where supposed stolen catalytic converters were purchased by the business from undercover officers, ultimately resulting in the search warrant. According to the SPD, all catalytic converters found during the search of the business were booked as evidence.
