Brian Lemke was arrested after two dangerous encounters
An elderly couple enjoying a relaxing outing in the small Delta town of Walnut Grove were robbed at gunpoint of their 2003 Chevy Tahoe SUV on the evening of September 10. They were not harmed, but the alleged culprit, Brian Lemke, 34, an Isleton resident, left them stranded and in distress for many hours in the rural area, according to authorities.
Armed with a shotgun, Lemke next traveled to Suisun City in the stolen vehicle, where he allegedly attempted to murder a convenience store clerk during a botched robbery. According to a Suisun City Police Department press release, SCPD dispatchers received a 911 call from the AM/PM store located at 299 Marina Boulevard (a block north of Highway 12) at about 7:15 pm the same evening. The caller reported the suspect entered the store “brandishing a weapon.”
After the carjacking, Lemke is reported to have entered this AM/PM market armed with a shotgun.
The suspect allegedly tried to fire the weapon at the clerk, but it jammed. The would-be robber pulled the trigger two more times. But the shotgun failed to fire at all. The suspect fled before police arrived. Witnesses provided responding Suisun City officers with accurate descriptions of suspect and vehicle. The officers quickly determined the getaway vehicle was, in fact, the carjacked SUV. Three hours later, Solano County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the fleeing SUV on I-80 near Davis Street in Vacaville.
Lemke was booked into Solano County Jail on several felony charges.
Solano County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to pick up the elderly couple stranded in Walnut Grove (located in Sacramento County) and reunite them with their stolen Chevy Tahoe.
