PASADENA – Police have announced a DUI checkpoint operation will be in force this weekend, Saturday September 14th.

Saturation patrols will  be deployed in areas of high DUI collisions and arrests, between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., according to a press release from the Pasadena Police Department. “This is a ‘Zero Tolerance’ crackdown so Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over!” stated the release. As always, people who leave home with plans to consume alcholic beverages are encouraged to choose a designated driver, or simply call a cab if needed. And people who witness a suspected drunk driver should call 9-1-1.

Though deaths from DUI have fallen over the years, they are still a great concern. In Pasadena over the past three years, five lives have been lost and 85 people were injured in 65 accidents as a direct result of driving under the influence. “California’s roadways are very much safer than they were before 2006,” said OTS Director Christopher J. Murphy. “The Pasadena Police Department will be keeping the pressure on through enforcement and public awareness so that we can continue saving lives and reach the vision we all share – Toward zero deaths, every 1 counts.”

Funding for this program comes from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
