Lawndale Man Adds Drug Paraphernalia Arrest to Drug Possession Warrants

HAWTHORNE, CA—One reason it may be called dope is because those strung out on it tend to waste their creativity on ways to be arrested.

Eddie Aubrey McAllister, 48, was arrested by Hawthorne police officers on Tuesday, November 25 at approximately 3 p.m. The Lawndale man was picked up along the 3100 block of Rosecrans Avenue where the major thoroughfare intersects Crenshaw Boulevard.

Hawthorne police records indicate that McAllister’s latest arrest was for possession of a device used for controlled substances and/or drug paraphernalia (11364(A)HS).

It is not the first time he has been arrested for similar violations.

According to Gardena police records, he has three warrants for that same paraphernalia possession (11364(A)HS). Redondo Beach police also have a drug paraphernalia warrant for him.

It may be that McAllister believes that having just a crack pipe or heroin needle will keep a person from being charged as harshly as for possession of the crack or heroin itself.

The bail amounts, however, indicate otherwise. Although Hawthorne police placed a mere $250 bail amount on the latest amount. The warrants from Gardena police clocked in at $26,000 for the highest and $5,000 for the lowest with a $15,000 one in the middle. The Redondo Beach warrant was also $26,000.

Protesters Arrested at Walmart and Arden Fair Mall

SACRAMENTO–Protesters’ calls for economic and social justice on Black Friday outside a Rancho Cordova Walmart and Sacramento’s Arden Fair mall led to numerous arrests.

In Rancho Cordova, demonstrators sat in the middle of Zinfandel Drive and Folsom Boulevard late Friday morning, November 28, blocking the streets in protest against Walmart over employee wages and hourly schedules.

As many as 35 protesters were detained and cited. One by one, those sitting in the intersection were placed in wrist restraints by deputies and led to a waiting sheriff’s bus, where they were cited and released. A woman dressed as Santa Claus, later identified in the media as Michelle Pariset, was taken away by deputies and greeted with cheers inside the bus. Some of those arrested, like Maile Mae Hampton, Kiana Howard, and Eric Vega spoke to the news media explaining their objections to Walmart’s labor practices, wages, and part time work status.

Several hours later, approximately 60 demonstrators gathered at the Arden Fair Mall to protest the recent decision by a Ferguson, Missouri grand jury to exonerate a white police officer who fired the fatal shots that killed Michael Brown, an 18-year-old black man.

Carrying signs that read “Hands up. Don’t shop!,” “No Justice. No Profits,” and “Black Lives Matter,” demonstrators gathered peacefully outside one of the mall’s entrances, while a police helicopter circled overhead.

As night fell, groups of protesters blocked an intersection at the mall’s main entrance and were told to disperse. When they did not, police arrested them on allegations of failing to disperse, said Sacramento police Officer Doug Morse.

Five people, three adults and two juveniles were detained in a police van at the mall entrance. They were cited and later released.

Redwood Valley teens try armed robbery

MENDOCINO COUNTY – Tristan Mendez turned 18 just a couple of weeks ago. It appears that he celebrated his adulthood, and the Thanksgiving weekend, by joining up with a friend, who is still 17, and embarking on an armed robbery spree, first at a store right in his own town of Redwood Valley, just north of Ukiah and Lake Mendocino, and then many miles away in Albion, on the Mendocino County Coast.

Mendez lives in the wooded hills west of Redwood Valley, on road called Radical Ridge, which is opposite another colorfully named route through the Mendocino Range called Find Yer Way, both of which wind though the forested lands near the Montgomery Woods State Reserve. According to a Mendocino Sheriff’s office press release, he is suspected of holding up the Little Baker’s Market in Redwood Valley on Saturday afternoon.

Little Baker's Market on the left. Taylor's Tavern is on the far right.

Little Baker’s Market on the left. Taylor’s Tavern is on the far right.

Witnesses reported to Sheriff’s deputies that around 2:00 in the afternoon that a man had entered the store, threatened the cashier with a knife and demanded money. The cashier did as he asked, handing over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the robber took off, getting in the passenger seat of a 1990’s green Honda sedan. The car took off south on East Road.

The witnesses could only describe the suspect as having olive skin, but with a black cloth over his lower face, and dark sunglasses covering his eyes. He also wore a black beanie cap, black gloves, and a lime green jumpsuit or coveralls. He stood about 5’5″ and was of thin build. They believed the getaway car driver was female.

It was just a couple of weeks ago when this small rural outpost of Little Baker’s Market, a veterinarian, a pizza restaurant, and Taylor’s Tavern was the site of an apparently suicidal man who attracted attention by pointing a shotgun at himself in the parking lot. Kevin Bobby Norton drove away before deputies arrived, but ended up shooting himself in the face while being sought. His wounds were treatable, and he was arrested on various weapons charges.

While the Sheriff’s department investigated this latest incident, Mendez and his juvenile partner, who turned out to be male despite the witness descriptions, made plans for another robbery. Either Saturday night or early Sunday morning, they headed out towards the coast, about a 65 mile drive through the coastal range mountains to the small town of Albion. Located 15 miles south of Fort Bragg, Albion has fewer than 200 residents. Located at Albion and Whitesboro Coves, it is primarily a tourist destination for people wanting to enjoy the beautiful Mendocino coastline.

Albion Grocery Store

Albion Grocery Store

Mendez entered the Albion Grocery Store a little before 11:00 am wearing the same disguise as before, except with dark clothing instead of the green jumpsuit. He approached the woman working there while holding one hand inside a paper bag, suggesting he had a gun. The clerk later said she thought she saw a gun, but could not be sure. He demanded that she hand over all the $20 bills, which she did, totaling about $500.00. With the money in hand, he ran out of the store, jumped into the same green Honda driven by the friend, and they headed up Highway 1, turning right on Albion Little River Road towards Comptche, according to a witness.

The Sheriff’s department mobilized deputies from both the coastal area and inland Ukiah, along with State Park Rangers to converge on Comptche, another small town of under 200, located in the woods south of the Jackson State Forest, between Albion and Redwood Valley. One deputy spotted the suspect car traveling at a high rate of speed on the two lane Comptche-Ukiah Road, about 4 miles short of Comptche. After reporting the location, the deputy had to turn around to pursue the car.

Mendez and partner tried ditching the car at a private driveway near Flynn Creek Road, but were chased off.

Mendez and partner tried ditching the car at a private driveway near Flynn Creek Road, but were chased off.

When the deputy got to town, citizens reported the car had continued east along the road. However, other deputies coming from the Ukiah area did not see the car coming their way. Meanwhile, Mendez and friend had pulled off the road onto a driveway near the Flynn Creek Road intersection. They had parked the car and got out, apparently to flee on foot. The landowner, however, confronted the two trespassers, and they got back into the car to try somewhere else. As they were leaving, the cadre of deputies spotted them, and they were quickly stopped and taken into custody.

In the car, deputies found the stolen $500.00, a knife, a black facemask, gloves and beanie cap. They were pretty certain they had their culprits from both robberies. Both teens were arrested on charges of armed robbery and conspiracy. Tristan George Scott Mendez was taken to the Mendocino County jail, with bail set at $150,000, while his partner in crime was taken to juvenile hall.

Torrance Man Moves up to Grand Theft Auto

HAWTHORNE, CA—There’s the newly released video game, Grand Theft Auto V, and then there are those who get charged with grand theft auto and four other arrestable charges.

David Chung, 39, was apprehended by Hawthorne police on Wednesday, November 19 at approximately 12:30 a.m. He was picked up from an apartment building along the 4700 block of Imperial Highway in Hawthorne.

The Torrance man was charged with grand theft auto (487(D)PCGTA), receiving known stolen goods (496(A)PC), taking a vehicle without owning it (10851(A)VC), felony possession of a controlled substance (11377HS) and possession of narcotic/drug/alcohol paraphernalia in a jail (4573.6PC).

Chung was also found to have a warrant for petty theft (484(A)PC) from Hawthorne police,  a violation which prompted a relatively petty $5,000 warrant.

The bail amounts for the new charges were between $10,000 and $35,000 and totaled $110,000.

How he managed to get a grand theft auto charge along with allegedly attempting to take drugs, etc. into a jail remains undisclosed. Perhaps he was thinking the jail had a drive-through?

Salesman Turns $25 Bicycle Ticket Into $10,000 Resisting Arrest Charge

HAWTHORNE, CA—Some sales personnel have a bad day from failing to meet a quota, but there are those who reverse the process altogether and turn a fix-it ticket into a big-ticket arrestable charge.

Fitzgerald West, 46, was stopped by Hawthorne police on Tuesday, November 25 at approximately 11:30 a.m. along the 12700 block of Crenshaw Boulevard in Hawthorne. The Perris, California resident was apparently stopped for failing to stop at a stop sign (21453(A)VC), operating a bicycle too far from the right edge of the roadway (21202(A)VC), not having required bicycle lighting (21201(D1VC), disorderly conduct: alcohol (647(F)PCALC) and obstructing/resisting a peace officer (148(A)(1)PC).

The bail amounts for the bicycle violations were only $25 each; the stop sign charge was $100; and even the disorderly conduct was just $250. The obstruction violation, however, was far more at $10,000.

Perhaps the police were not sold on why operating a bicycle at night with no lights and being drunk in the middle of the road was alright.

According to Sac Sheriff, at about 6:30 pm on Sunday, November 30, dispatch received a call from an adult male in his early 20s reporting he had been robbed of his cell phone and cash near Elverta Road and Walerga Road, which is located in Antelope. He reportedly indicated he “sort of” knew the suspects.

Sac Sheriff officers reportedly came across a vehicle fitting the description given near Tupelo Drive and Roseville Road, located in Sacramento. Officers attempted to initiate a vehicle stop, however, the driver — later identified as Alix — did not stop, and a short pursuit began up into the Roseville area.

Alix was caught after crashing into a home on Haman Way.

Alix was caught after crashing into a home on Haman Way, and hiding out in the area until found in an extensive search.

According to Roseville PD, the pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed through a wall of a house in the 1000 block of Haman Way. Fortunately no one was reportedly home in the house at the time, and no one was hurt.

The suspect reportedly fled into the neighborhood, and officers from Sacramento County, CHP, Placer County and Roseville, along with a law enforcement helicopter, quickly surrounded the neighborhood to search for the suspect. An hour into the search, a Roseville PD officer found the suspect hiding in some bushes in the 800 block of Micro Court, and he was taken into custody without further incident and turned over to Sac Sheriff.

The additional two suspects were reportedly apprehended by Sacramento Sheriff’s deputies. There were no injuries to the robbery victim or suspects.

All three suspects have been in other recent trouble with the law. Devin Alix was arrested August 5 for possession of a switchblade knife as well as a probation violation, and then again a month later on an outstanding warrant. Carlos Jaquez was charged on October 25 for inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or co-habitant (domestic violence) as well as vandalism, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, and possession for sale, and for giving false information to a peace officer. He faced similar charges prior to that, dating back to October 2013. Additional records show several more arrests dating back to 2007 for various theft and drug charges. Serina Miller was arrested on September 24 for possession of a narcotic controlled substance and a probation violation.

Troubled man dies in diaper bag robbery arrest

POINT ARENA – MENDOCINO COUNTY – Daniel Cedar Saulsbury was well known to the deputies of the Mendocino Sheriff’s Department. In 2006, 2007, and 2009 he was arrested for DUI and possession of narcotics or paraphernalia, according to records. He also was arrested in 2007 for reckless driving resulting in injury, as well as a charge of contempt of court. Then in 2011 he was charged with inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or co-habitant, child endangerment, and battery. While on felony probation for domestic violence, with a court order to only have “peaceful contact” with the victim, he was arrested on September 5th this year for another incident of domestic violence. An argument with his live-in girlfriend over social media use ended with him choking her, and his later arrest. Reports in the media say he was released and living with his mother and 3-year-old son in Fort Bragg.

The latest and final incident in Saulsbury’s life began around noon the day before Thanksgiving. A family was in Point Arena, in the small downtown area a few blocks from the coast, on Highway 1, which also serves as the town’s Main Street. While perhaps visiting one of the small shops or restaurants, they were confronted by Saulsbury in a parking lot of the 200 block of Main. He grabbed and took their diaper bag, and when the man put up resistance, he threw large rocks at them, almost striking the family.

Main Street Point Arena, at the corner of Mill Street.

Main Street Point Arena, at the corner of Mill Street.

The victims contacted the Sheriff’s office at 12:13 pm. The nearest available deputies at that time were 40 miles away, in Fort Bragg. They immediately called the victims, and taking their initial statement and a description, the deputies contacted the California Highway Patrol, who had an officer available near Point Arena. While deputies were responding to the scene, the responding CHP officer was able to locate Saulsbury based on the description they had given. While the officer attempted to detain him, Saulsbury fought back and ran away.

The CHP officer called for emergency help. Deputies were already on the way, and arrived within a few minutes. Saulsbury and the officer were now on Mill Street, just off Main, and the two deputies joined in trying to detain him. All three deployed their Tasers to subdue him, which finally enabled them to control and detain him. While on the ground, according to a Press Democrat report, he began to bang his head while lying face down, handcuffed. Officers placed a blanket under his head to soften his self inflicted blows. Saulsbury then began to show further signs of medical distress, and emergency medical personnel on the scene tried to revive him. As his condition worsened, they made efforts to save his life, but he was soon pronounced dead.

The Mendocino County Officer Involved Fatal Protocol process was initiated, and the District Attorney’s office has taken jurisdiction over the investigation of the incident, and Saulsbury’s death.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY – They’re calling him the “Chit Chat Bandit” because he comes into a bank, chats with the tellers about the banking business, meanwhile demanding money. Investigators believe he engages in the chatting to make it look to others that he is just a regular customer conducting business.

He was first noted on Wednesday, November 26, the day before Thanksgiving, when he entered a Wells Fargo in La Jolla on Girard Avenue. According to the FBI, he came in just after 3 pm, and handed the teller a note demanding all the cash in the teller’s drawer. While the teller was complying, he chatted with her, including a reiteration of his demand for the money. After getting what he wanted, he left the bank.

After taking the Thanksgiving holiday off, he was back at work Friday. He entered the Vons grocery store on Camino Canada in El Cajon just before 5 pm. He approached the Wells Fargo Bank inside the store, and perhaps going for greater efficiency, skipped the note, and made his demand for the cash by just “chatting” his request directly. While the first teller was complying to his demand, he engaged the second teller in the same conversation, collecting money from both stations.

Leaving the store with the cash, the Chit Chat Bandit got on a small green BMX style bicycle and fled. He never did display an actual weapon in the two robberies.

The suspect was described as a white man in his mid 30’s, about 5’10” and weighing 160 to 170 pounds. He has a soul patch beard under his lower lip. In both robberies he wore dark sunglasses and a dark baseball cap. He wore an orange reflector vest during the first robbery. Anyone with information that may help locate the suspect is encouraged to call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477. A reward of $1,000.00 has been offered for information leading to his arrest.

About 7 am in the morning of Monday, December 1, an observant Vacaville police officer on routine patrol noticed something odd. According to a Vacaville P.D. press release, the officer glimpsed a pickup truck “parked in a manner to hide its location” behind a building along the 700 block of Vaca Valley Parkway near Eubanks Drive and the Putah South Canal.

The access gates to the fenced yard surrounding the building, which the press release said was a “cellular telephone tower distribution center,” were closed but unlocked. Upon discovering that the gate only appeared to be locked, officers investigated further. One of the building’s rear entries had been forced open. Soon, officers contacted Jason Hamilton, 33, a resident of Forest Hill and Katie Wade, 26, of Suisun City.

The larcenous pair had numerous burglary tools in their possession. There was also a large number of batteries stacked inside the suspicious truck. The burglars were almost done with their work when the officers contacted them.

The suspects were arrested and booked into Solano County Jail on a wide variety of charges. The investigation is ongoing; authorities believe this case may be connected to other recent cell phone facility burglaries. Hamilton had been arrested just two weeks prior in El Cerrito for possession of stolen property.

Gardner Sentenced To Life Without Parole For Murder Of Girlfriend in Winters

After passing a sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole on convicted murderer William Carl Gardner III for the shooting death of Leslie Pinkston in downtown Winters, Judge Stephen Mock detailed the aggravating factors necessitating that sentence.

Gardner had been convicted of six felonies before the killing, both as a juvenile and as an adult. Four of the felonies were committed by the use of violence. As well, Gardner involved another person in his murder plot – the woman he convinced or coerced into driving him to Winters to surprise his victim on the morning of November 18, 2013.

Mock also considered the particular heinousness of the crime in passing the lengthy sentence. After entering the rear door of Pinkston’s SUV as she sat in the driver’s seat sipping coffee and getting ready to go to work, Gardner shot her in the knee first before pausing and then shooting her again in the back of the head. According to Lauren Keene of the Davis Enterprise, “when it came to listing mitigating factors, Mock fell silent. There were none, he said.”

Victim Leslie Pinkston

Victim Leslie Pinkston

Many relatives and friends of Pinkston’s attended the sentencing hearing. Some had previously requested the maximum punishment for Gardner. There was no sense of closure for them however, an unidentified family member stated. Heather Pinkston McCants, Pinkston’s niece, stated their loss was like a tree losing a branch.

While he declined to testify at his trial, Gardner did voice several complaints before bailiffs led him away to begin serving his time in state prison. He accused his court-appointed defense counsel, J. Toney, of colluding with prosecutors. Mock several times had denied Gardner’s requests to replace Toney. Gardner also accused Toney of calling him a racial epithet. Toney denied that. He also complained about the lack of African-Americans on the jury and expert witnesses to testify for him.

After Mock had left the bench, Gardner, in view of TV cameras, referred to him as “a Klansman.”

Soused “Apple specialist” drives car onto Golden Gate Bridge walkway, gets stuck, gets arrested

It’s a good thing 22-year-old San Francisco resident Daniel Micah Soto did his sightseeing early Tuesday morning. Apparently, he wanted a choice view from the Golden Gate Bridge. Or maybe he convinced himself he had lucked into some sort of exclusive VIP lane. Or maybe he was so drunk he didn’t know where he was going when he drove his blue Mustang onto the iconic bridge’s walkway before getting stuck.

Probably the latter.

According to California Highway Patrol spokesman Andrew Barclay, just after 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, Soto, in an intoxicated state, made a right-hand turn from Conzelman Road near the Marin Headlands into a parking lot on the bridge’s north end. But instead of parking, Soto drove through a security gate and onto the bridge’s pedestrian walkway. He managed to cruise for about 400 yards before wedging his car between a guardrail and a chain link fence, at which point his car’s airbags deployed. Soto sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by CHP officers, who later arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Bridge authorities were forced to shut down the northbound and southbound lanes of the bridge for about six minutes around 10:15 a.m.—in the midst of the post-holiday Monday commute —in order to bring in a forklift to pull the Mustang out.

“The Golden Gate Bridge crews like puzzles,” Priya David Clemens, a spokeswoman for the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District told SFGate. “They certainly got a challenge this morning.”

Soto lists himself as an “Apple specialist” on his LinkedIn page.

According to Roseville PD, between November 13 and 17, someone had broken into a storage unit at Cube Smart Self Storage at 900 Orlando Avenue, stealing tools, sports equipment, and other items of value.

Early in the morning of Friday, November 28, officers were patrolling the area and stopped two men entering the storage facility. Officers reportedly found the two men were driving a stolen vehicle and had burglar’s tools and some of the aforementioned victim’s stolen property in their possession. The two men were arrested, and the stolen vehicle returned to its owner.

The female victim was able to describe to officers what she had seen and heard during the attempted robbery. It is believed that when the two men entered the home they confronted Bryan and Keith, telling them to give them their money. That is when the two suspects shot the two men in an attempt to steal anything they could get their hands on that they thought would be of value.

Randol said, “Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.” This was San Jose’s 27th and 28th homicide in 2014. No other information is being released at this time.

TEHACHAPI — Two Tehachapi teens and an adult suspect were arrested after a routine traffic stop turned into a foot pursuit on Wednesday afternoon.

Katrina Rodriguez and Raul Gonzales Jr., both 19-years-old, along with 32-year-old Isaac Brown were all taken into custody on various charges.

Rodriguez was booked in the Kern County Jail on a misdemeanor warrant and for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Gonzales was booked into the Mojave jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting/delaying a peace officer and three misdemeanors warrants, while Brown was released per citation for possession of a concealed dagger.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the chain of events that led to the trio’s arrest began when a deputy investigating a separate crime attempted a traffic stop on a stolen green Honda Accord with Washington plates on Santa Barbara Drive near Santa Lucia in Tehachapi at around 1:30 p.m. on Dec 3.

The driver, later identified as Gonzalez, pulled over and fled on foot, while the passenger was detained.

During a search of apartments in the immediate area, police said they located Brown, who was reported by citizens in the area to have displayed a deadly weapon.

He was detained and found to have a dagger in his possession.

Deputies continued their search for Gonzales, finding him at around 5 p.m. hiding in a closet within an apartment in the 21300 block of Santa Barbara, where he and Rodriguez were arrested without further incident.
