Roseville PD Bust 2 Suspects Found With Stolen Identity Documents

Officers from the Roseville Police Department reportedly arrested two Auburn residents after finding other people’s identity documents — such as banks cards and tax documents — in their hotel room, according to an official weekly crime report.

Adam Robert Duncan, 33, and Natasha Wolfert, 27 — both of Auburn — were reportedly arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property, burglar’s tools, drug paraphernalia, and other related charges.

According to Roseville PD, on Monday, October 6, at 1:30 pm, an officer made a traffic stop near Estates Drive and Harding Boulevard. The driver was reportedly on probation and in possession of illegal switchblade knives and a methamphetamine smoking pipe.

Officers then searched the probationer’s hotel room on Harding Boulevard, where they reportedly found marijuana, burglar’s tools, bank cards, checkbooks and tax documents belonging to other people, as well as materials used to manufacture ID cards.

The same couple appeared on a Rocklin Police report from May of this year as well. They were captured when police responded to a commercial burglary, and detained while police searched their silver Infinity. A stolen Glock handgun, 15 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale and $760 in cash were found. A month later, on June 20, Wolfert was charged with hit and run causing property damage. She was also charged in March with possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy, and forgery.

Prior to this year, according to records, Wolfert has been charged multiple times, mostly for possession of controlled substances, paraphernalia, sales and transportation, and even bringing it into a prison. In 2006 she was also charged with burglary, and in 2005, when just 18, she was arrested for vandalism with three others, who were caught spray painting tags on a freeway under-crossing, and were also in possession of meth paraphernalia and brass knuckles.

Adam Duncan made the news in 2011 when he was driving an SUV on Highway 49 in Nevada County, California. While under the influence of drugs or alcohol, he collided with two pickup trucks, and then proceeded the wrong way and hit a minivan head on, resulting in major injuries to a woman and 6-year-old child. Duncan was also severely injured, and was airlifted to Sutter Hospital in Roseville. It is possible that the injuries he suffered in this incident led to his current status as disabled, as reported to police when asked to provide his occupation.

Theft Leads to Attempted Murder at San Leandro Walmart

Two San Leandro shoplifting suspects took Walmart’s slogan “Save Money, Live Better” too far late Sunday night–and it nearly ended in murder.

According to San Leandro Police, at around 11:40 p.m., at the Walmart at 1919 Davis Street, store security agents monitoring surveillance cameras witnessed two men concealing merchandise in their pockets. Police later identified the suspects as 39-year-old Oscar Cruz and 18-year-old Edward Lovato, both San Leandro residents.

A police press release states that the store security agents watched Cruz and Lovato leave the store without paying for the merchandise, at which point they followed the suspects outside and confronted them. The agents asked the suspects to return to the store. However, after re-entering the store, Cruz attempted to flee. The security agents grabbed both men, leading to a violent struggle inside the store. It was at this point that Cruz is alleged to have removed a handgun from his waistband, which he then fired multiple times at the agent who tried to detain him. No one inside the store was hit by gunfire, and the agent struggling with Cruz managed to get hold of the weapon.

A police officer responding to the scene heard gunshots coming from inside the store as he pulled into the store parking lot. On entering the store, he found the security agents fighting with the two suspects. Several more officers arrived and were able to help safely detain and arrest the two suspects.

A search of the suspects’ car revealed a loaded, high-caliber handgun. An investigation by detectives revealed that Cruz was on probation for a domestic violence conviction and had a history of felony convictions for various crimes. Lovato also had a criminal record, and as recently as October 2 was arrested for auto theft and possession of stolen property. He was released the next day with a future court date.

On Tuesday, the Alameda County District Attorney’s office brought charges against Cruz and Lovato. Cruz has been charged with attempted murder, robbery using a firearm and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Lovato was charged with robbery using a firearm. Both men were arraigned in Alameda Superior Court Tuesday afternoon, and both are currently being held at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. Cruz is being held without bail. Lovato’s bail is set at $200,000.

Initial reports to police suggested there may have been a third suspect who fled back into the store. Officers set up a search of the store but did not find anyone. At a press conference about the incident Monday morning, San Leandro Police mentioned a third suspect still at large. However, later that morning, Lt. Robert McManus notified the press that “[d]etectives have determined that there is not a third, outstanding suspect, as previously reported during this morning’s press conference. This is an isolated incident.”

“This was a very violent confrontation that could have quickly turned deadly,” McManus stated. ”The officer who entered the store alone, after hearing gunshots inside, did exactly what he was trained to do – protect others. Without his quick actions, others inside could have been seriously injured.”

Roseville PD Makes 3 Arrests Thanks to Citizen Tip

Officers from the Roseville Police Department were able to arrest three suspects and return some stolen bikes, thanks to a helpful tip from an observant citizen, according to an official weekly crime report.

Corey Lynn Lewis, 23, and Nicholas Lewis, 19 — both from the same home in Rio Linda — and a 16-year-old female from Yuba City were reportedly arrested on suspicion of theft, possessing stolen property and other related charges. Corey Lewis also had possession of a controlled substance charges, and bringing a controlled substance into jail, which means he was likely concealing drugs when he was booked.

According to Roseville PD, on Tuesday, October 7, just before 4 am, officers responded to a report from an attentive neighbor of suspicious activity — someone reportedly stuffing several bicycles into a vehicle near Michener Drive and Steinbeck Drive.

The resident reportedly gave officers a good description of the car, and officers were able to spot and stop it at Pleasant Grove Boulevard and Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard. Officers found the three occupants in the vehicle had stolen four unsecured bikes from a nearby apartment complex, The Oaks at Woodcreek, at the 1500 block of Pleasant Grove. They quickly disassembled them and put them in their vehicle, which was parked less than a half mile away in the residential neighborhood behind the apartments.

Corey Lewis had been previously arrested on July 14 on charges of burglary and receiving stolen property in the residential area of North Natomas in Sacramento, in the area north of the Sleep Train arena. Further details of that incident were not available.

Gilroy Doctor innocent of wife’s murder

SANTA CLARA COUNTY – Murder for hire charges filed against a 68-year-old German Baldeon, a Gilroy doctor, were dismissed this week in what authorities are calling a plot by the assailant to try and blackmail the suspect for money.

Baldeon appeared in the Santa Clara County court house located in Morgan Hill in June of 2014, for a formal arraignment. The courts issued a one-million dollar bond for the Doctor, citing that they considered him a flight risk.

However, it wasn’t until recently that investigators with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, looking further into the allegations, discovered the horrifying reality of how a man who has now fled to Ecuador, evading U.S. extradition, plotted to kill the woman in order to blackmail her husband for money.

It is alleged that fifty-nine-year old David Galvez entered the home of 74-year-old Doris Knapp and stabbed her multiple times in the chest, killing her. It was believed that the murder suspect Galvez was hired by Baldeon in what authorities thought was a murder for hire plot to collect money on her life insurance policies.

Four months after his arrest Baldeon became a free man. According to Santa Clara County District Attorney Angela Berhnard “When we filed the charges all the evidence pointed to Mr. Baldeon’s guilt”. The murder suspect had fled to Ecuador making it impossible for authorities to detain and or question him. Berhnard said, “We determined that things had changed, based on that further investigation.”

Outside the courtroom Baldeon talked with reporters. “I like this sunny day,” said Baldeon. “But my future, my sadness, it will be dark. I miss my wife. Thank you.” The negotiations into arresting the suspect for this crime are long from being over. When a person is wanted for murder, investigators and judicial authorities with the U.S. Justice Department and others will continue to seek justice for Doris Knapp by finding and arresting David Galvez for her murder.

The clerk at the Quick Stop Store had noticed the suspect loitering outside the store earlier. Later, when the clerk was alone the suspect entered the store and approached him demanding the keys to the clerk’s vehicle parked outside the store. The clerk told police that the suspect appeared to be holding an object in his hand that he believed to be a knife. The clerk refused the suspect’s demands and walked behind the counter to call 9-1-1.

The suspect then went into the unlocked storage room in the rear of the store. The clerk then fled the store and called 9-1-1 from outside the store. Petaluma officers arrived within one minute of the call.

The suspect had then locked the storage room door that officers had to breech. He was contacted in the storage room, and was now wearing the clerk’s sweatshirt that had been left there. The suspect had a folding knife in his possession when he was taken into custody. He was identified as 42-year-old Steven Davidor of Novato. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail for attempted robbery and bail was set at $30,000. Davidor had been arrested less than two months earlier, on August 22 for public intoxication.

Inglewood Woman Popped for Shooting at House

INGLEWOOD, CA—There is nothing like a woman scorned–especially one with an assault rifle late at night.

Andrea Lynne Williams, 26, was apprehended by Inglewood police on Monday, October 6 at approximately 9:30 p.m. at or near her residence on the 200 block of West Lime Street in Inglewood. She was charged with a number of weapons and other violations.

The one charge that may have prompted police attention was Williams allegedly shooting at an inhabited dwelling (246PC), but equally important may have been that she may have been doing so with an assault rifle. That second aspect got her charged with possession of an assault weapon (30605(A)PC). The other two charges were offering to pay for the adoption of a child (273(A)PC) and criminal storage of a weapon/child neglect (25110(B)PC). Police did not name the model of the assault weapon she allegedly possessed.

Bail for the shooting alone was $250,000. Bail for the other three violations were $35,000, $25,000 and $10,000, respectively–for a total of $320,000.

Inglewood Man Arrested for Child Porn

INGLEWOOD, CA — Pablo Mendoza, 60, was arrested on Tuesday, October 7 at or near his residence for “Evidence of Doing Business” (INMC 8-4). The “INMC” is short for “Inglewood Municipal Code,” and the code titled “Section 8-4” that Inglewood Police Department officers (IPD) claimed Mendoza violated is described as “Whenever any person shall, by use of signs, circulars, cards or any other advertising media, hold himself out as, or represent that he is, doing business in the City, then these facts may be used as evidence that such person is doing business in the City.”

It was not stated what business the resident of the 9200 block of South 7th Avenue was doing, but the three warrants from Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) may provide a clue: possession/etc. of obscene matter depicting minor in sexual act with priors (311.11(A)PC), failure to appear after written promise (853.7PC) and attempted battery (242PC).

The IPD charge got Mendoza a bail of $1,000, and the three LAPD warrants had a total bail of $195,000.

Inglewood Man Collects Warrants From South Bay Cities

INGLEWOOD, CA—Some people collect coins, others collect stamps–and some collect warrants.

Jose Efren Fermin, 26, was picked up by Inglewood police on Monday, October 6 at approximately 1:15 a.m. along the 600 block of Walnut Street.

The Inglewood resident was apparently arrested for inflicting corporal injury to a spouse/cohabitant (273.5(A)PC). It was soon discovered that he had a number of warrants from a variety of South Bay cities including Inglewood.

Fermin had three failures to appear (40508(A)PC) in Hawthorne, Inglewood and Los Angeles as well as one failure to appear after a written promise (853.7PC) in Inglewood. He also had two driving violations: driving without a license (12500(A)VC) in Inglewood and driving with a suspended license (14601.1AVC) in Culver City.

The corporal injury charge brought a bail of $50,000. The total bail for the six warrants from four police departments was $42,793.

With nearly $100,000 in bail on his head, one wonders if he will be allowed to continue adding to his collection.

“Bad Samaritan” Identified and Arrested

Suspect Confessed And Gave Up Stolen Property

SANTA CRUZ—Last week we reported on a man who burglarized a man’s house while he fell asleep. After several leads developed from the posting of the video, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office have identified and arrested the ‘Bad Samaritan”. He turned out to be 20-year-old Brandon Munoz Hernandez.

After they learned who the suspect was, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office paid him a visit at his residence in Watsonville on Thursday, October 2. A search of that residence led deputies to a second residence back in Santa Cruz, an apartment on the 100 block of Felker Street.

That is where Hernandez was arrested. He was transported and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on charges of burglary, probation violation and child endangerment. If you remember from last week, he perpetrated the burglary accompanied by a small female child.

During an interrogation, Hernandez confessed to the burglary and disclosed where the stolen property was stored. Sheriff’s Deputies went to a ‘Public Storage’ unit at 2325 Soquel Drive, about 3 miles away, and found all the victim’s property.

The recovered property included the two large screen TV’s, furniture, the victim’s two suits and golf clubs. Hernandez’s bail was set at $25,000.00 and the little girl is safe with family members.

The 66-year-old victim will be getting all his property back.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Sergeant Kelly Kent told us last week that the public should be aware of whom they ask for a ride.

REDWOOD VALLEY, MENDOCINO – The small town of Redwood Valley is located along Highway 101 in the inland Valley of Mendocino County, just north of Lake Mendocino and the city of Ukiah. Largely rural, the town has a number of vineyards and wineries in the countryside surrounding the residential center of town. There have been, however, a number of home invasion robberies in the past few months, which has many residents and law enforcement concerned.

That fear prompted a resident of a home on Colony Drive, a rural road in the eastern edge of town, to contact the Sheriff’s Department late Sunday night. The resident reported seeing a suspicious car in the area. The driver was moving slowly along Colony, and frequently stopping in driveways and on the road. It was 11:30 when the call came in, according to a sheriff’s press release.

Responding deputies found the suspect, now out of his car and walking along Colony. He was identified as Brian Skaggs, a 34-year-old man from the Summercreek Village apartments in Ukiah.

Originally from Cincinnati, Skaggs has a record of arrests in the area going back to at least 2001. He has been charged for driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, driving with a suspended license, public intoxication, and probation violations, in at least eight instances over the past ten years. He was also arrested in a domestic violence case in 2010.

When found by deputies late Sunday in Redwood Valley, he exhibited signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Deputies administered a field test and confirmed their suspicions, and found that he was in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine and a glass meth pipe.

What Skaggs was doing in the area, other than wandering through the countryside, was not clear. He was however arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, and being under the influence. His bail was set at $10,000.00.

Standoff Suspect Wields Sword in Faceoff with Visalia Police

VISALIA – A man who allegedly hit a family member with a sword and then swung it at officers through a door was placed under arrest on Wednesday.

Officers with the Visalia Police Department arrested 45-year-old Julian Felix following a 90-minute standoff Wednesday evening.

Juvenile Arrested for Attempted Murder of Dixon Police Officer

A juvenile 15 years of age was arrested for attempted homicide (PC 664-187) after exchanging gunfire with police officers near Dixon High School, according to a Dixon Police Department press release. The District Attorney’s office later announced that the teen will be tried as an adult, and released his name, Bret Baugher, according to News 10.

At about 9 am on Wednesday, October 8, several Dixon High students informed Principal Nick Grimonte that they had seen another student in Hall Memorial Park, adjacent to the high school, openly carrying a gun. Principal Grimonte called police, and within minutes officers responded to the park. Meanwhile, Dixon High was put on immediate, campus-wide lockdown.

Upon arrival in the park, officers discovered the boy with the gun. He shot at one of the police vehicles.

After the incident Dixon Police Chief Jon Cox said one of his officers, who has yet to be officially identified, is lucky to be alive. “When you look at that police car and see those bullet holes coming right through the back window at the driver’s seat, it is gut wrenching,” Chief Cox said. No officers were wounded during the gunfight.

In fear for his life, the officer who had just exited the police vehicle, returned fire. The boy fled the park’s baseball fields and ran north about 350 yards toward the public pool. Officers converged on him there and ordered him to surrender his weapon, which he did.

Baugher was medically checked at the scene before being transported to Solano County Juvenile Hall. He had sustained minor injuries, but it is unknown at this time whether they were gunshot wounds.

Dixon High was released from lockdown at about 9:40 am. District officials reported that everybody at the school was “safe and sound.” “Things are calm and collected here at the school,” announced district Superintendent Brian Dolan after the crime scene at the park was secured.

Beating, assault at Redding gay bar called hate crime

Club 501 has been called Redding’s only gay bar. Located in north Redding, not far from the famous Sundial Bridge, it is on the corner of California Street and Division. In a recent post on their Facebook page, celebrating their 20th anniversary, they describe the place: “For 20 years, Club 501 has served the gay community not only as an amazing place to have a stiff drink, converse with other great patrons/bartenders and dance your ass off; but as a safe haven for those who didn’t feel comfortable in other bars in the Redding area. Now, after 20 years of existence, the 501 is a place where many different types of people come; young and old, gay and straight, black or white. The amount of diversity you see in this Redding landmark is unlike anything you will experience in any other Redding bar.”

What Jarrett Case Westler, 24, and Michael James Brown, 23, both of Redding, were doing there last Sunday night is somewhat puzzling. They both appear to be straight, and their later actions demonstrated a decided lack of appreciation for diversity and alternative lifestyles. Perhaps it was the very diversity of the crowd that led them to believe it was just another party bar in town, or maybe they were intrigued by the people there and wanted to check it out. Or maybe they were just looking for trouble.

Whatever their motivation, according to the Redding police, they were there and drinking, and became intoxicated enough to be asked to leave. Apparently upset at the request, they began shouting insults at the staff and other patrons, using derogatory slurs towards their perceived sexual orientation. As they got outside, they continued to yell insults and began fighting with people there on the sidewalk.

Michael Brown was carrying brass knuckles, and put them on, hitting one man in the face, breaking his orbital eye bone, knocking out a tooth, and leaving multiple lacerations and abrasions. Jarrett Westler also was seen hitting the same victim, and then pulled out a knife and slashed at a woman, who was not hit.

Police were called at 10:21 pm, and officers were soon on the scene, but the two men had left, driving away in a red Ford F-150 pickup truck, as reported by witnesses. The wounded man was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. His injuries were not life threatening, and he was released.

An investigation followed, and police detectives were able to identify Westler and Brown as the suspects, based on witness descriptions and the vehicle used.

Westler was known to Redding Police for his past brushes with the law; he was on active parole for past drug and weapon offenses. He haad been arrested in October 2011 when caught cultivating marijuana for sale while he was already in a post release work program, which he had failed to complete. At that time he was found with a stolen shotgun, and a large amount of cash. After his release, over the next two years, he was arrested several times on parole violations, being under the influence, driving on a suspended license, and even for huffing Toluene, a chemical solvent sometimes used as a narcotic inhalant.

Redding Police investigators were able to located Westler and Brown Wednesday morning at 5:00 am. They were both arrested and booked at the Shasta County jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault causing great bodily injury, and commission of a hate crime. Brown’s bail was set at $50,000, while Westler is being held without bail.
