According to police reports, Auburn Police Officer Stan Hamelin was patrolling the area of Old Town Auburn a little past midnight on Tuesday when he spotted Peter Cassidy in a parking lot.
The officer confronted Cassidy, who at the time was working on a 1987 Jeep Cherokee, and conducted a record check of the vehicle. From the record check, Hamelin found that the vehicle has been reported stolen out of Nevada.
In addition, Cassidy was found in possession of stolen credit cards belonging to the vehicle’s owner and a $100 forged bill.
Cassidy was arrested and booked into the Placer County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen credit cards, and forgery. He currently remains in custody and further details have not been released.
