The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department arrested two suspects in separate cases for growing and selling marijuana.
Justino Pacheco, 27, was arrested on Aug. 26 in the 37700 block of Pound Rd in New London after a two-week investigation into marijuana cultivation and sales hiding behind a medical marijuana recommend.
Deputies served a search warrant at the resident and found 54 standing marijuana plants, several firearms, and evidence of sales of narcotics. Pacheco was attempting to flee the premises by jumping over an 8-foot fence surrounding the marijuana, but deputies were able to apprehend him. He was found to be out of compliance with medical marijuana state laws, and was charged with cultivation and sales of marijuana, according to the sheriff’s office.
In a second incident on Aug. 28, detectives responded to the 5600 block of Schott Rd in Earlimart to assist County Code Compliance officers with the service of marijuana Civil Abatement warrants. It is a violation of Tulare County zoning ordinances to grow marijuana outdoors within the county area.
During Wednesday’s abatement detail in the area outside of Earlimart commonly known as “Little Tijuana,” detectives assisted in removing eight separate growing sites. They removed 1,372 fully budded plants with a total weight of 14,480 pounds, according to the sheriff’s office.
During the detail, detectives spoke to 24-year-old Paul Anthony Ruiz, “who proudly told detectives he had been growing and selling his marijuana for three years,” according to the sheriff’s office.
Ruiz went on to brag that last year he had made a deal to sell 73 pounds of marijuana for $77,000 to local dispensaries. He then provided detectives with his medical marijuana recommendation. Because he was out of compliance with state laws, he was arrested and charged with cultivation and sales of marijuana.
