It was about 4:20 pm on August 5 and Vacaville Police Sergeant Kim Humbert was about to wrap up her patrol shift when she spotted two boys riding a dirt bike without wearing their helmets.
The dirt bikers immediately caught sight of Sgt. Humbert’s police vehicle and hauled down Nut Tree Road. According to a Vacaville Police Department spokesperson, a 1.6 mile pursuit then followed. The dirt bike driver ignored stop signs, rapidly navigated down the wrong sides of streets, and even dodged through a neighborhood park in attempts to evade Sgt. Humbert in hot pursuit.
Finally, the joyriders took a turn too fast and hit a curb at the corner of Raleigh Drive and Caldwell Drive. Both boys jumped from the undersized motorcycle and ran. With the assistance of several more police officers who converged on the scene of the crash, they were, however, arrested within a few minutes.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the dirt bike had been stolen from a Vacaville residence garage.
The dirt bike passenger was cited and released for resisting arrest. The driver, however, was booked into Solano County Juvenile Hall on charges of Residential Burglary, Vehicle Theft, Felony Evading, and Driving Unlicensed, police sources said.
