NEWMAN — Some people can’t seem to stay out of trouble. 26-year-old Newman resident Angel Dominguez might be one of those.

It was around 5:30pm on August 5th that Newman PD received a call of a dispute between neighbors, one of whom was apparently armed, in the 1900 block of South Street.
The two-man patrol unit sent to investigate discovered Dominguez in his front yard, armed with a firearm which he then pointed at officers as they approached. The officers immediately took cover and Dominguez ran into his residence, no shots exchanged thus far.
Newman PD called in the assistance of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and immediately set up a perimeter. Several failed attempts to establish contact later, the Stanislaus Sheriff’s Department SWAT team and Hostage Negotiation Team were gathered.
Dominguez has run afoul of law enforcement several times in the past, and is currently on probation for domestic violence and possession of drugs.
Just over five hours after the teams were organized, Dominguez surrendered peacefully to SWAT officers. He has been booked for brandishing a firearm at a peace officer, probation violation, and felony possession of a firearm.
