STOCKTON — There’s no shortage of curious cases coming out of Stockton, among the most recent of which involves an 8-year-old North Stockton girl who’d been shot in the foot after the apparently accidental discharge of a shotgun.
That was this past Thursday, when police responded to a report of a shooting at around 12:30 pm in the 6800 block of Allegheny Place. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim was no longer there and had been taken to the local hospital by an unidentified private party.
Following investigation of the accident, police arrested 32-year-old Aurora Almarez — the girl’s mother — on child endangerment and weapons charges.
A search warrant was then obtained by detectives, who soon reported a handgun and sawed-off shotgun had been found.
The investigation is ongoing and has since joined efforts with Child Protective Services. Meanwhile, Almarez sits in custody at the San Joaquin County Jail on $700,000 bail.
