GARDENA – Investigation is ongoing in the officer-involved shooting of an armed robbery suspect near a 7-11 convenience store.
The two suspects robbed the 7-Eleven at Vermont and 168th Street early Sunday
Late Saturday night, into early Sunday morning, Gardena Police responded to an armed robbery call at the 7-11 at 16711 South Vermont. According to a Los Angeles Couty Sheriffs press release, upon arrival at 3:46 AM, the officers saw two Hispanic men running from the store. One of the men displayed a knife, and the officers responded with their weapons, shooting and injuring him. The second suspect continued to run down 168th street, but was captured within a block by additional Gardena Police units.
The names of the two suspects have not yet been released. Media reports indicate that the crime scene was littered with candy and Tecate beer. It was also reported that the wounded suspect was clothed only in boxer shorts, painting a picture of a late night beer run that turned violent.
Both suspects fled down 168th Street; one was shot and wounded, the other captured.
LA Sheriffs homicide detectives are investigating the incident, and have asked that anyone with any information contact the Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
